#diyrepair #batterychange #motorcycleaccessoriesHarley Lowrider Front Suspension Rebuild Part 4Classic Wrench2025-02-21 | In the final chapter of this Front suspension rebuild series, an inspection of the front end is conducted followed by a good cleaning. A trip to Ace get me some more assembly hardware that I need. The speedometer bracket is modified and installed into the new fender mount, followed by the fender reassembly. Tyre comes next, lowering the bike to allow the axle bolt to fir through everything is aligned and tightened down. A spin of the wheel allows for an inspection to ensure everything is true. All final bolt tightening that was awaiting the wheel was then conducted.
One brake had zero issues and was simply re-installed. The second required a rebuild, this time using a new piston. I didn't get too deep into it since I have another video covering this.
Installed and bled, we check the suspension, set up the handle bars, and were ready to ride.
Well see if we can get this bike to kick over after sitting up a few months. After which an attempt is made to observe the shocks on the 360 cam. Everything ran fantastic, completing the project.
#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairHarley Lowrider Front Suspension Rebuild Part 3Classic Wrench2025-01-17 | Now into part 3 we continue with the cleaning and inspection of the second fork tube, which again took some work to clean out the bottom, follow by its reassembly. Then cleaning the thread of the bottom bracket against the new nut it turned out the bracket thread was still good.
A tool was fabricated for the neck cup installation. The Next cleaned and repaired to fit the new parts. The new bearing, greased and installed into the parts for the neck reassembly.
The riser mating surfaces were also repaired before the reassembly of the top of the front end.
Finally the fork tubes were reinstalled into the bottom bracket and aligned so that the headlight fixture could be re-installed.
#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairHarley Lowrider Front Suspension Rebuild Part 2Classic Wrench2024-12-20 | Continuing the series. Using the seal, measurements were taken so that a tool could be fabricated using Freecad and printed out on my Bambulabs printer. After much care in the cleaning and inspection of all parts the first tube was reassembled. After filling with oil it was tested and shown to be good.
Upon removing the second fork tube for rebuild it became apparent that the neck bearings were destroyed and all of the top of the front suspension would need to be redone. Stripping down the neck as the fork tube parts soaked, it was found that the end cap was loose on the threads.
Jason came by and helped with a solution for the fender and speedo guide cable.
#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairHarley Lowrider Front Suspension Rebuild Part 1Classic Wrench2024-11-22 | If you've watched the 34 chapters on the restoration of this FXS, it was probably apparent that since the front end supported the bike throughout the series, it was on borrowed time. Well, time's up. After loosing one fork seal and a second one less than a mile later during the clutch test video its time to address the from suspension after almost 50 years.
#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairScreamin Eagle FatBoy Return to the Road - Part 4Classic Wrench2024-10-26 | Continuing on from Part 3 having completed all three oil changes, final work was done to the vent on the gas tank to treat the surface rust before it would be reinstalled back onto the bike. The tank is carefully reinstalled onto the bike along with associated hoses, cables and the gauge cluster.
The bike is then treated to a new air filter. The fuses are re-added and the electrics are closed back up upon final inspection and cleanup. All lights are tested on the console before tightening down.
New gas is added for further testing on the lift. Starting with the fuel priming which sounds correct and shuts properly. As expected it took a few tries for the initial start but it took off. What happened was all of the cleaning and anti seize on the pipes was making smoke so I'd decided to pull the bike off the lift and burn it in outside.
Burn-in went well and inspection showed the bike to be running good enough to continue running down the road to get a full tank of gas.
Bringing the bike back home another inspection was done at the house and everything checked out, so the big test was done , recorded on the Insta 360 x4 camera. Ideally its actually the hottest day of the year to ride to see if the bike will still overheat and cause issues.... it didn't.
But I didn't like the rear brakes, something is wrong..... it seems to stiffen up over time as if it starts to drag. Id decided to replace the pins and re-bleed them again, having then so thin id though the rotor maybe warped from some issue. The rebuild lasted throughout testing and the conclusion of this video but ultimately after this video the rotor would need to be replaced. A visual inspection of warp will only go so far, but a warped rotor not visually evident will oscillate the brakes and cause all sorts of issues.
Short of that everything else was a success.
#twincam #harleydavidson #fatboyScreamin Eagle FatBoy Return to the Road - Part 3Classic Wrench2024-10-04 | Continuing from Part 2 we conduct a flush of the rear brake that had just been serviced. This was followed by the front brake to circulate in new oil followed by the clutch as well after the re-installation of the exhaust system. Unlike a cable clutch I cannot simply gauge he throw-out function visually so I jack up the rear wheel to test disengagement. It seemed as though it wasn't working but it turned out to be the clutch plates stuck together after all the time past. This was verified by opening the derby cover and rocking the rear wheel until the clutch was freed.
I took the opportunity to do a cleaning of the low side and noticed a missing acorn stud from the belt guard. Given the price, i'd decided to fabricate one from parts purchased from Ace hardware. After this the triple oil change was started, this was done with the kit from Maxima. In keeping with tradition I made a complete mess on the removal of the transmission fluid. Everything was straight forward except for Harley's design for their oil filter placement.

#twincam #harleydavidson #fatboyScreamin Eagle FatBoy Return to the Road - Part 2Classic Wrench2024-09-06 | Continuing from Part 1 we jump right into the disassembly of the fuel tank components. The fuel pump is removed so that the pump and inside of the tank can be inspected and cleaned. The fuel filter can be easily swapped out at this point. After the work was completed the tank was reassembled. A delivery of parts allowed for the continuation of the project, but first the idle air valve needs to be removed for cleaning or replacement. The air filter bracket and throttle cables are also removed to remove this valve. The valve was so dirty i could assume that the dirt was blocking it so I opted for cleaning instead of replacement to fix the surging issue. After everything was reassembled the project progressed onto the new spark plugs which were gaped and installed. While back there, all remnants of leaking was cleaned up.
Next came the rear brakes that had almost no pads left. The slip on exhaust was removed for clearance, and the work was complicated by the supplier having the wrong pads for this model in their database. We needed at this point to re-investigate and order new brakes to finish the job.
#twincam #harleydavidson #fatboyScreamin Eagle FatBoy Return to the Road - Part 1Classic Wrench2024-08-17 | Today we have a 2006 FLSTFSE2 which my friend had purchased and rode for a short time before failing in hot weather. I'd told him not to run it again until I had a chance to look at it, and life got in the way for both of us, but today we finally had it delivered by trailer so we could get this bike back on the road. After cleaning and inspection, preparations were made to check the engine compression to see if there was something terrible inside but with 150/150 it was safe to continue so the tear-down begins.

#shovelhead #harleydavidson #vintagemotorcyclesKuat Bike Rack NV2.0 - Unboxed, Assembled and ReviewedClassic Wrench2023-10-27 | Today we will be reviewing a 2 bike hitch mount rack that we had purchased for out VW Tiguan. Keeping in mind our need for a rack to support two E-bikes, one being a heavy Velowave Ebike. The other is a light Specialized bike. The project begins with the unboxing and assembly. It would probably be best for two people to assemble this if possible. Once assembled we bring it over to the hitch and secure it to continue.
The supplied lock is not amazing, but this is not a lock company its a Bike rack company. For security, an after market lock is highly recommended. An anti wobble mechanism connected to the hitch works well. All of the bolts that were put in during assembly are re-tightned once on the hitch, then the trail doc bike lift is installed. The trail doc could be left out and a blank cap installed instead, i opted to put it in.
Pulling the pivot lever allows the rack to swing down where the arms can swing out for the bikes to be mounted. Prepping with the unlocking of the straps and pressing the button to pull the hooks to maximum length.
It was found that the heavier bike should be on the inside position if possible, testing showed lifting a heavy bike from the front onto the arms was easiest, the side, only if the front is blocked. Arms and straps lock down the tightly secure the bike.
I did have an issue requiring a seat on one bike be moved as it interfered with the other bike. Finally I was sure to remove anything from the bikes that might fall off such as water bottles. An inspection of the cars rear view camera predictably shows it to be blocked by the bikes, so take note if this when backing up.
Out in the park on arrival a demonstration of the racks internal bike locks shows it to be a nice feature though I wouldn't recommend it for overnight security, just for a deterrent. A demonstration of the whole rack pivoting with both bikes on it to open the trunk worked fine as well.
We end with a full dismount and trail doc scenario for a fake repair. Followed by a dismount a a reload of both bikes. The trail doc would work for an emergency repair but would not replace a regular bike stand for work.

#bikerack #kuat #ebikeShovelhead Engine - Charging System Troubleshoot and RepairClassic Wrench2023-09-21 | While using my computer to check the mixture of the carbs I started to encounter issues on the way home. It seemed the engine would only stay running if the RPM's remained high. Once home testing could begin. After letting the battery charge, I was surprised to see that the tester showed the system to be in good working order. However as we will come to find that over a short amount of time things started to change quickly. While I have a good feeling as to whats wrong let see how had it is and how quickly it gets there. Furthermore, we will still conduct testing of all components as necessary just to be sure.
#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairShovelhead Engine - Computerized Carb Tuning with an LM-2Classic Wrench2023-08-25 | With the engine now completely broken in, the compression looking good the jets can now be set up for a final fuel air mixture. Ill be using my LM-2 Sensor to do this, on the bike while riding, capturing the data and reviewing to make changes as appropriate. One of my pipes has been modified for an O2 Bung to accommodate this tester.
The installation of the tester on the bike does not look ergonomic for sure. Its not for daily driving, just for pulls on the highway and reviewing; and that it does well.
Limitations of my older style carb prevented me from the ultimate dial in, maybe one day ill buy a newer shorty E or maybe a CV carb.
That said, it turned out to be near perfect, and thats good enough.
#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairYamaha 4 Stroke Outboard Engine Carb Rebuild Series [5] Installation, Setup and TestingClassic Wrench2023-07-28 | Now in the final chapter of the series with the carbs fully assembled onto the silencer, a few hoses have arrived which will go to the fuel pump that will be replaced before we continue. The old ones are original and brittle. After this the pilot screws will be set to their factory specified position as they are currently fully closed.
Over at the engine I want to ensure that the throttle linkage is set correctly so I set my calipers to measure the linkage size and it turns out to be correct so its cleaned and reinstalled into position. With that the fuel filter is removed and brought over to the bench for cleaning and inspection. The filter itself was found to be in good condition so it was cleaned and reassembled and brought back over to the boat after drying.
The paper towels were removed from the intake from part 1, it was really dirty on the mating surface and took a significant amount of time to get everything clean. Everything was then checked and cleaned to ensure the carb would be installed without issue. The carb mounting screws were also cleaned up. The dip stick and breather hose removed allowed for clearance.
The whole assembly slides back on without issue guiding the top fuel hose as necessary, using the alignment pins as a guide, one bolt is used to hold everything together. All other bolts are then hand turned in slack only. Finally tightening from the middle outward. Followed by the two bolts securing the air silencer. The oil dipstick is immediately reinstalled and the throttle linkage snapped back onto the carb.
The fuel filter assembly is re-mounted onto the engine. All fuel hoses are reconnected as they were removed. Then the breather hose is reinstalled to the silencer box. All of the connections to the cold start valved are reconnected and dressed in properly.
After reviewing all of the work I test my carb balancers and I see there will be an issue working with more than two carbs at a time but ill still try in the video. first we test the full throttle stop with a feeler gauge and its good so we can get started. A tachometer is already on the boat so we do need to add one. Letting the unset engine warm up and trying to keep the idle at 1000rpm why checking for leaks is the first task. Its apparent that balancing all fours carbs at once will not work on my setup so I do two at a time.
Once balance is completed. The setting for accelerator pump engagement is setup. Finally I need to setup the idle screws in the final setup to remove a slight stumble on cylinder one and test everything out. Completing the task and the project.
#yamahaoutboards #yamahaoutboardsYamaha 4 Stroke Outboard Engine Carb Rebuild Series - Fuel Pump Rebuild and TestClassic Wrench2023-07-07 | Having been working on the project to rebuild the carbs of the engine. Debris has been found in the bowls of all four carbs. It seems like a good idea to do a carb rebuild before reinstalling the cabs back onto the engine.
Two of the three connections are already removed from the pump from the carb removal so only the input coming from the fuel filter need be removed. Two bolts secure the pump onto the engine which are removed, releasing the pump which is brought over to the bench.
Before disassembly, a test of the pump is conducted, given the tools that I have on hand to ensure that the internals are still functioning properly. My method is not standard but the results do demonstrate that the diaphragm , which is expensive is still working good. I did see black slime coming out of the pump during the tests though so a cleaning is in order.
Disassembly begins, the pump secured with four screws separating the two halves, the gasket and a seal are shown to be long since destroyed, the bottom portion is then disassembled, removing the plunger and spring followed by the valves. Now fully disassembled all parts are cleaned with carb cleaner and blown out with air except for the diagram which is carefully cleaned with a clean paper towel.
With all parts cleaned assembly was conducted stating with the lower plunger portion. Then the top portion starting with the valves, Gaskets are replaced on the top of the pump as it is assembled.
62Y-24452-00 -gasket 62Y-24471-00 membrane
The bolts holding the fuel pump together call for loctite 572. I use Loctite 592 as it is more readily available
Loctite 59214
Both side are brought together and tightened down progressively in a cross pattern. This is followed by basic testing again to ensure that everything inside was assembled properly. Back at the boat the pump is primed and tested manually before re-installation onto the motor. Finally reconnecting the hose from the fuel filter to the in port.
#yamahaoutboards #yamahaoutboardsYamaha 4 Stroke Outboard Engine Carb Rebuild Series [4] Component ReassemblyClassic Wrench2023-06-16 | Part four begins with the cleaning of all of the brackets to ensure a good mating surface. There was a large amount of buildup of grime on all surfaces where o-rings meet, After which it was time to swap out the remaining O-rings before assembly. The assembly bolts and washers were also cleaned. The hose I had to cut earlier needed to be replaced and had arrived for this swap-out.
One side of the carb, with the thinner O-rings had trouble. 93210-35M86 did not seem to fit correctly on the carb. I had some real concerns about this one and opted to clean and reuse the existing ones.
The silencer box, bolts, washers and brackets are staged for reassembly, adding the carbs and temporarily securing them with m6 bolt until everything looks good and tightening down to the back bracket. Torques down from the center outward. An inspection through the carbs is done to see that none of the o-rings shifted during assembly, after which all remaining hoses are reattached and cable tied.
Finally, the accelerator pump is installed onto the assembly. all hoses routed as per the service manual and the linkage reconnected. Finally the common throttle linkage is reattached to the four carbs completing this portion of the project.

#yamahaoutboards #yamahaoutboardsYamaha 4 Stroke Outboard Engine Carb Rebuild Series [3] Component Testing and RepairClassic Wrench2023-05-25 | Onto part three, we begin with the repair of the brass fitting that was found to be broken off the carb 4 in part two. A very small amount of JB weld is used on the prepared surface, as little as possible on both pieces, and tapped in with a small nylon mallet. With that carb now set to dry the next carb, carb 3 is going to be disassembled, this one containing a prime start plunger will mean there will be an extra component to clean and test.
The carb cleaning itself was about identical except for the extra provisions on the carb and bowl. This carb was found not to be terribly dirty, just a little. The main jet size recorded. Float Height was good. Reassembly was uneventful.
J-B Weld 8265S Original Cold-Weld Steel Reinforced Epoxy amzn.to/41euMbr
The valve was disassembled and inspected before cleaning. A resistance if 31.3 ohms is recorded across the leads. The cold value for the valve is 20mm. The results after 5 minutes shows the value is 25mm. Which is within specification. The valve is then reassembled and then assembled to the carb with new gaskets. It uses gasket 62Y-14398-30
Carb two was next, having no prime start valve it was just like carb four except it was dirty, the float needle was bad and the float was 4mm too low. The jet size was recorded and we moved onto carb one which has a prime start valve like carb three. This carb had nothing terrible to report. The valve values were a bit off from carb one but within specification.
Next was the accelerator pump with the broken hose which was completely disassembled and dirty inside. so it was cleaned out completely and the hose was found to have a reducer in it which was removed, added into the replacement hose 64J-14349-50. Reassembled after repair the accelerator pump awaits the assembly of all parts back together in the next chapter.

#yamahaoutboards #yamahaoutboardsYamaha 4 Stroke Outboard Engine Carb Rebuild Series [2] Carb Disassembly and CleaningClassic Wrench2023-05-05 | Continuing with part two, we will be disassembling the carbs from the air silencer and manifold brackets, and begin the disassembly of the carbs for inspection and cleaning. First Id like to know where the pilot screws are before touching anything so each of them are drawn into soft seat and the values are recorded. All were found within spec. After this, all bowl drains are removed for a pre-inspection of the back of the bolts for rot of any kind and none was found.
With the preliminary work out of the way, the accelerator pump is removed where it is immediately found that an inappropriately shortened air line has cracked causing an air leak in this system. This will be repaired later. After this the silencer is removed, working the bolts from the middle outward to break tension. With the bolts gone the silencer and brackets are put off to the side and washed leaving the four carbs behind connected by fuel lines.
The carb fuel lines are in two groups, the fuel from the pumps and from the cold start valves. Cable ties hold them together and are removed to separate. It is noticed a brass fitting is broken in carb 4 requiring repairs. With the hoses separated, all four carbs are now separate. The project will start at carb found (bottom) and work up to one (top).
First I took a minute to try to remove the broken brass fitting from the the hose on carb 3. Someone glued it in, and I ended up cutting the hose to remove it. Carb four will Now be completely disassembled. This carb has no cold start valve. No major contamination was found in this carb, everything was cleaned with brake cleaner and blown out with compressed air. I was not happy with the carb rebuild kits I had. The recommended OEM and if desired, a NON-OEM kits are shown below.
J-B Weld 8265S Original Cold-Weld Steel Reinforced Epoxy amzn.to/41euMbr
With my kit I opted for using the existing OE parts in the carb if they were still good, effectively using the new seals and float bowl needle only. If I had the OE I would have swapped everything.
The Float of the Chinese kit against the old OE was measured. The old OE was 10mm which was correct. The new one was way off. The old float was reused. The carb and brass piece is prepped for repair.
Carb 4 is then reassembled and inspected, put back in line and carb 3 is pulled next, though ill need to get some JBweld...
Onto the rest of the carbs......

#yamahaoutboards #yamahaoutboardsYamaha 4 Stroke Outboard Engine Carb Rebuild Series [1] Diagnosis and Carb RemovalClassic Wrench2023-04-14 | Today in part one we will be removing the carburetors on this 50hp Yamaha 4 stroke outboard motor which has a stumble exhibited at all RPM ranges. The Owner having checked ignition already, and the boat being of recent acquisition, its not a bad idea to do a complete workup and inspection of the carbs and make sue everything is functioning properly. The engine model today is a F50TLRB though the process is the same for a range of Yamaha 4 stoke outboards with carbs.
A demonstration of the stumble will be heard before beginning followed by allowing the engine to cool down before disassembly. Pre-marking of fuel hoses are encouraged if you don't remember where they will return, also returning bolts removed to their original position where possible. The top cover of the engine is popped off after fuel hose removal. Any bolts that cant be reinserted are stored in a ziplock bag with removed hose clamps.
Keeping in mind the gas filter and Oil dip stick will be an obstruction, they will be removed from the engine to remove the carbs. The breather hose is held on by a small cable tie. many small cable ties are used as hose clamps throughout this project. The throttle linkage unlocks from the locking tab to disconnect it from the bottom carb.
Ive opted to disconnect the cold start valves from their connectors and not from the back of the engine as a matter of preference. I did pre-label the cables though so it went back to the same position. This was followed by the silencer mounting bolts. and then the carb-inner manifold bolts.
The carb is then negotiated out of the engine manifold with the silencer box and away from the engine. All ports are sealed with clean paper towels. The bag of bolts and clips are stored in the engine cavity and the cover is closed until installation will occur.
Onto Carb disassembly......

#yamahaoutboards #yamahaoutboardsShovelhead Engine - Starter Solenoid RepairClassic Wrench2023-04-02 | Today we will be looking at the Starter solenoid on this AMF Lowrider that seems to be exhibiting an issue. A simple test as demonstrated has localized the issue to the solenoid specifically. The click with no action was the outlaying symptom. checking that during the click the starter gets no voltage makes the determination that the solenoid, not the starter is our issue.
After disconnecting the battery, and protecting the Aluminum the connections to the solenoid, then the solenoid is removed along with its spacer. This is followed by disassembly of the unit. As disassembled we see the contacts and determine service-ablility. A brass brush cleans up these surfaces. A rebuilt kit would be used if these were beyond service. With the old grease removed new grease is applied where appropriate. Part 1028348 from Jpcycle was used to replace my old chrome cover but it didn't fit, so i'm returning it.
Everything is reassembled with a sealant at the base of the studs to keep water out. and the solenoid reinstalled; Battery reconnected. Testing determines everything is working good with this easy and cheap repair.

After transferring the seat from the old post to new I wanted to try the original spring before upgrading. With a custom Gopro mount, tests are conducted and we se that the original spring would not work for me, even with more preload, so I go through the swap-out procedure.
With a few more adjustments with the correct spring I get it just perfect. I can ride over anything and it is absorbed, what an upgrade. I was amazed at the difference.
Once the seat was completed I installed my new alarm/rear light. The mount is not amazing but good enough for a bicycle.
Finally I move onto the tyres that I hates with this bike, replacing them with Specialized Nimbus 2 Armadillo Reflect 650Bx2.3 I go through the entire procedure as to how this is done on an Ebike. Nothing special up front, all of the differences are really on the rear end due to the motor.
The next order of business was the adjustment of the derailleur, and I demonstrated how this could be done with a tow-strap, but for the video it was easier to use the bikelift. Rolling the bike into the house to the life I had noticed a noise from the front wheel, turns out the brake calipers were loose, so an adjustment and tightening procedure was needed.
With the brakes centered and tightened, the derailleur was completely reset and adjusted that means cable and everything.
Having gone out for a test ride I started to hear a creep on the lower end getting louder. I thought it was the peddles and there was deflection, so they were replaced but it turns out the bottom bracket came loose so it needs to be tightened. The cranks needs to be removed and a special tool is used to remove the cranks and tighten the bottom bracket.
With that the is now ready for the road, fully repaired, adjusted and upgraded.

With everything now here and life getting in the way I continue. This includes a water bottle mount that I already had, though they only provide a down-tube location for it which is not ideal. I also added riders to raise and bring my handlebars back. They provided a free bell by mail but I did not install it.
The seat that comes with the bike is really bad, but I have a gel cover that I use at the gym so I put it right on and it fit just fine. Next came a handlebar phone holder which I bolted on.
Also, a test was done, at 80% four weeks ago it only lost 2% of the charge which was very good. At this point I go through all of the menu settings foe the video. This also includes password protection to turn on the computer which is a nice security feature. I also go through the advanced setting though I do not recommend any changes there.
My Apple airtag arrived, Ive removed the speaker and purchased a watterbottle airtag holder, as well as a lower profile water bottle holder that can fit on the bike with the airtag holder. Id discoved earlier that my old waterbottle is too tall and doesnt fit so ill need to order a shorter one.
Yes, I do at this point conduct a live evaluation of the bike with a chest mount go-pro. Not too long, just a few minutes.
The front suspension was evaluated for different adjustment. There are future plans for a seat suspension and road tyres.
A smaller bottle fit, and in the evening I was able to test the headlight which was way overkill, but I finally reach the point where it was ready for a charge around 40% and I was looking to get it up to 80% as I dont keep it above 80% till just before I ride it. Since the status doesnt work while it charges I have to do some testing to determine that it takes about 2 hours to get from 40 to 80%.
But thats it until suspension and type upgrades.....

#ebike #ebikes #ebikelifeVelowave Ghost E-bike - Unboxing, Assembly, Add-ons, Tips and Review [PART 1]Classic Wrench2023-01-13 | During the black Friday sales we'd decided it would be a good time to purchase an E-bike for me. I'd chosen the Velowave given height and weight requirements, also it was a company that had parts and after market support The battery size and motor power is more than sufficient. I'm documenting the entire experience here right from the unboxing, which I heard is extremely well packaged, and its true. I'm not looking for speed. I have motorcycles for this. I'm looking for something to get me back into cycling.
Assembly was straight forward. There were two sections missing or wrong in the manual that were affixed as labels to the bike as corrections or additions to the instructions. Tools and some spares were provided for the build. I attempted to use these tools for assembly.
I charged the battery fully to 100% to balance the cells, though its a good Idea to never leave the batteries stored above 80%. I'd planned on testing the bike shortly thereafter. Charging the battery outside the bike only indicates a full charge. Partial should be done on the bike.
An included headlight was also installed, quite bright, and its control is integrated with the LCD display. Since there was a headlight though, there was no place for the included front reflector, also the pictures on the website did not show a front reflector on their bikes.
The brakes did work out of the box but required some adjustment for my preference, I took some slack out of both sides so the pull on the handles were even and the throw was reduced. There is no specific tire pressure so I took the middle of the rated value of 40psi.
With the battery fully charged it was time for it to be installed, this required the key for installation and removal for added security. Now having the battery installed the LCD screen can be reviewed though I don't go into too much detail yet I go through a few basic features.
Though not on camera I took the bike for a ride and now Ive collected a list of items I need to made some ergonomic modifications. That's for the next video.

#ebike #ebikes #ebikelife2022 and Newer VWs Can ALMOST Drive ThemselvesClassic Wrench2022-12-09 | During one of our road trips i'd accidentally came across the travel assist feature that I had no idea existed. Granted, this was our first road trip in this car, and while we were aware of the functionality of lane assist, this was a game changer.
Having spent some time with it, we decided that it would be ok to record the experience while the wife was driving. Also capturing some issues, as well as limitations on some more complex roadways.
#volkswagen #vw #autopilotShovelhead Engine - Oil Check Valve RepairClassic Wrench2022-11-11 | After being away for two weeks I'd noticed the volume of oil pouring out the bottom of the engine on startup. Waiting another two weeks I replicated this on camera for the same result. An attempt will be made to resolve the issue without a complete removal of the oil pump for repair.
Looking back on older videos I see that the check valve could have been handled better. Especially the reuse of the old check valve ball. Further issues would be the spring which was notably shorter than the new one after over forty years of use.
After accessing the ball and spring, and with a new package of ball bearings the new ball is inserted and lightly tapped in with a hammer to fix the seat. Another ball bearing is used for final assembly along with the new spring.
A dramatic difference on retesting not only after a two week wait but just about 3 weeks. Some residual oil was seen and most likely due to not running it out after repair.
#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairCen-Tech Battery Charger & Engine Starter - Troubleshoot and RepairClassic Wrench2022-10-14 | Today we'll be looking at a CEN-TECH heavy duty battery charger from the Bug ranch. They Generally brake in the same fashion and can be repaired cheaply. I will attempt to the greatest extent possible, troubleshoot without power. This device can be lethal so precautions should be taken. This device is Harbor Freight number 63043.
For demonstrations of failure I will be using a Variac and an isolation transformer for safety. After which power off troubleshooting commences. With the checking of switches, and resistance through the fan and coil. Note that as I apply power at intervals its only for demonstration.
With the rectifier disconnected the hum is gone and the fan spins at full voltage.Showing the problem is from the rectifiers back. Setting the Fluke Meter to Diode, all rectifiers are tested, in both directions finding immediate issues, notably shorts found.
The entire Diode panel is remove from the unit. Damage is evident so the rivets are drilled out and the diode housing is removed. The housing on the effected diode is melted requiring an minor repair. The plate is cleaned and the prepared for reassembly. While epoxy dries in the recess on the housing from the melting. New diodes will be used all around, 10MM 50 Amp, I purchased from Power Forged PN 696040-10. All of the diodes are tested in the bag, finding the closest characteristics, then re-assembled into the housings. The housing were riveted, now secured with machine screws and nuts.
After testing, the whole diode board is reinstalled into the unit, all wires re-connected. Testing will be done live with a Variac and isolation at low ac voltage. Everything looking good so all of the functions will be checked, along with the devices voltmeter. Now at full voltage everything is re-tested and the unladen numbers look good. A final test is done under load charging a battery. Everything looking good, and a significant drop in AC ripple as expected. A successful repair.

Since this has effected the bike over the rebuild the lifters or the adjustment procedure could be suspect.
allsun Ultrasonic Air Leak Detector Automotive Listening Device Stethoscope amzn.to/3LuBVQn
The bike is prepared for lifter removal, and well be braking out my measuring tool that I suspect is the culprit, it at least one of them. Starting with the rear exhaust lifter its removed and cleaned and inspected. Then placed back in, followed by the intake. Starting with the intake the pushrod is reinserted just until there is no deflection it is expanded one flat at a time.
Turning in 4 turns in in an older method and checking with the measuring tool we see the tool is calibrated to 4 turn from the top. Now I continue to turn in to full seat to see how many turns there are in total. It bottomed out at 8 turns. If documentation in the book is correct I should be 1.5 from the bottom which would be 6.5 turns from the top, not 4.
So all setup will be from the bottom, 1.5 turns up. The Exhaust will be done in the same manner. Followed by the front ones. Ill point out that these push rods are old and worn and I plan to replace them. With the bike buttoned up, a slow turn of the engine checks clearance and we run it and listen.
No noise was observed when it was cold so we go for a ride. But as it warms up we hear the noise from the rear. Determining its a lifter making noise and a good idea it was the exhaust, I purchased a new one from S&S and swapped it out.
The Noise was gone at full temperature after that but with the digital scope I can see a hint on the other lifter so i decided to swap that one as well. For a fully quiet drivetrain.

#shovelhead #lowrider #motorcyclerepairDelorean Brake System Overhaul - Part 4 of 4Classic Wrench2022-08-06 | Onto the final chapter in the brake overhaul we leave off with the parts arrival for the rear calipers. With that the calipers are reassembled with the new parts and de-greased bolts torques to about 32 ft/lbs. The brake pads are cleaned up and reused. The caliper, rigid line and e-brake will all be reinstalled into the car. The ebrake lock washer is not reused. When connection the ebrake cable is accidentally pushed it inward and dislodged it from the handle. This is correctable from under the drivers seat but requires extra time and long tools to re-seat. The ebrake is then initially configured. With that the first wheel is done, the other side is done the same way.
The rigid line on the passenger side is very difficult to reach to replace. It was probably the most difficult task in this whole project. With the second wheel done the reservoir is finally installed into the car. Bleeding is then started from the rear passenger brake working closer to the master cylinder.
The brakes were then tested and then brought to the shop for a close examination on the lift. While on the lift the E-brakes were set up properly. This concluded the Brakes system overhaul on this 82 delorean.
#delorean #dmc12 #automotiveDelorean Brake System Overhaul - Part 3 of 4Classic Wrench2022-07-22 | Now into the third chapter in the brake system overhaul. We've left off with the completion of work on the front brakes as well as new flex lines up front. Wheels cleaned and reinstalled. The back brakes now begin which are more complicated firstly because of the added E-brake assembly as well as less room to work due to the engine and transmission. The E-brake is tested before disassembly begins. The E-brake comes out first. Followed by the actual brake caliper.
The flex lines in the rear prove to be more challenging than the front owing itself to access and a terrible mount. New hoses went right in awaiting completion of the caliper work which is on the bench with loosing oil soaking for the evening. The caliper was split and disassembled for cleaning and inspection. he caliper looked to be in good condition considering its age.
The ebrake now completely de-greased was also in good condition, one small rust area treated. The ebrake is disassembled for an internal inspection and regreased. The calipers were also cleaned and degreased.
The next chapter will get into the reassembly rear brakes.

This included new EBC pads as well. The Flex lines were replaced as well and put up a fight being removed from the frame and bracket.
The angle drive bracket was broken so I took it to the shop to weld up before installation. The wheel also received a long over due cleaning which will be used as an indication of uneven brake wear.
The second caliper is removed and disassembled just like the first. It was in better condition.
The next chapter will get into the rear brakes.
#delorean #dmc12 #restorationDelorean Brake System Overhaul - Part 1 of 4Classic Wrench2022-06-24 | This video begins a four part series which will consist of a complete brake renovation on this 1982 Delorean. All of the calipers will be rebuilt, the master cylinder will be replaced, though I'd like to take the opportunity to quickly swap out my fuel sender as it will be in easy reach at the time.
The fluid itself doesn't look too bad as Elvis and I had done a flush not too long ago. As the panels come off I swap the sending unit with a new one from DeloreanGo. Once that was done, back to the brakes, the project kicks off with the emptying and removal of the master cylinder. I couldn't find a rebuild kit so I bought a replacement. Deloreango had one with the same ratio. The reservoir is cleaned and reused. I had found the low fluid switch didnt work but only required the connector be cleaned.
This first wheel I was working on was significantly dirtier and the car pulled to the left, a suspect stuck caliper. Removal of the caliper begins carefully loosening bolts. On the bench the caliper is then disassembled. Test confirms one of the two pistons was stuck. Upon removal the condition of the fluid in the calipers was much worse than that of the reservoir as expected. The pistons were in sad shape.
The calipers cleaned up nice but ill need to order some parts to continue.

I'm not going for gold here. We will however be conducting a standard unboxing and installation, review of the software and hardware and find out if it makes the cut. It will be installed on the example bike today, a Yamaha Vstar 1100, though the bike for such a device is insignificant to the testing.
