The lyrics in The World Is Yours, "Understandable smooth shit that murderers move with / The thief's theme, play me at night, they won't act right" were instrumental in me starting this project. My dad, raised in New York around the time Nas was releasing his first album, turned me on to Nas. I personally think Nas is one of the greatest rappers ever, and his debut album being as quality as it was proves that to me. Nas was 20 when he made this album, and he expresses something of a wisdom beyond his years, while still retaining that youthful energy. I always find myself coming back to this album.I've been a fan of Persona since I played Persona 4 back in 2019, Persona 3 in 2020, and I played Persona 5 when it made its way onto Steam in 2022. Persona 5's music speaks for itself at this point. I hear it all the time in the background of Video Essays and Edited compilations. It has a cohesion in the sound that the previous games didn't have, and I appreciate Shoji Meguro for making that decision. The Jazz Fusion/Acid Jazz stylings of Persona 5's soundtrack speak to people, and I'm no different.There was quite a bit of research done for this project, mostly looking at the samples each track used and trying to find a song from the Persona 5 OST that matched that vibe. I did my best to match the drum patterns and breaks used in each original Illmatic song as well. I hope you all enjoy this project.

Jubilife Slow Jamz (Pokemon Legends Arceus RnB Flip) Kaseboy Advance 2022-02-01 | Am I jumping on a trend? Maybe. Either way, I produced this beat and I sampled the Jubilife Village theme for it. I bought this game 3 days ago and was legitimately inspired by this theme. It's a pretty simple chord loop, but its in what feels like an odd time signature (7/8?) and the soothing texture really fits the village. The odd time caused me to resort to using SliceX to sample and chop the song, relying on my ear and timing instead of simply time-stretching it in Serato or FL's playlist. From there I laid down some drums, the bass and additional melodic bits to fill it out and make it more my own. It also helps to add some drop-outs, transitions and FX to elevate the beat and keep the listener (thats you!) guessing and engaged.
