I wanted to make something long and beautiful and meaningful the minute I heard this song. For those of you who don't know, I've developed a recent obsession with the latest young adult series known as The Hunger Games. Long story short: it's about a fight to the death (at least the first book is) between children. The books are brilliant, fast-paced, and poignant, and address the issues of meaningless death. Many of the themes of The Hunger Games were on my mind as I edited this, and I tried to express that, both in the clips I chose and the song. I tried to keep this both simple and yet still with an easygoing flow. This year, I chose to apply the concept of Valentine's Day (a little belatedly, yes, I know) to not a person, but a place. Or a concept, really. Just Touhou, its entire broad universe of Gensokyo. After all, there are different kinds of love, aren't there? Puppy love, passion, unrequited affection, familial bonds, love that changes over time. Generally speaking, however, the love you feel for a place is the strongest of all. Most of the time, that place is your home, but "home" is a relative term. Pardon my cheesiness, but "home is where the heart is," isn't it? Your true home may be a place you have never actually been to yet, but you'd know if it you saw it, I guarantee it. It's happened to me. So here is your video, all nice and relatively long compared to the half-a-minute tidbits I've considered releasing in its place. Consider it tied with the little preview thing I uploaded awhile back, but with a completely different song. Because laskjflaj, Dearly Beloved off the Birth By Sleep OST is the best arrange of it I've ever heard. I think the storyline of this particular vid is pretty straightforward. It's an introduction for the average person on the world of Gensokyo. Gensokyo is many things, and consists of the following which make it simultaneously a place of wonder, tragedy, and amusement: -vampires who long to explore the outside world -a homicidal cherry tree -a ghost-girl with a bigger appetite than the tree -immortal feuds -a goddess with some control issues -a manipulator of boundaries with a love for causing chaos -cat-girls, kappa, aliens, and Youkai Jesus -trains that fall from the sky -murder, suicide, intrigue, self-sacrifice, etc. The best thing about the Touhou is that fans are encouraged to add to it as they please. For once, the canonical sense of the stories and the fandom versions are actually quite intertwined. And that, perhaps, is what makes it so enjoyable. Hope you guys enjoy! Actually, I worked on this video so long and so efficiently that I truly did see static around my peripheral vision one night. It was trippy, yo, but it gave me a headache. xD I had to lie down for a bit. This video spawned, most likely, from too much Persona. More than that, I had something else entirely planned for this round of Scyppend, the plan of which I have told some of you...in any case, the April 25th deadline seemed too much for this other project of mine. I did not want to rush it and thus slaughter the quality of its worth even further. Thus, having already made forty-five seconds or so of this other project, I immediately thereupon gave it up and worked on this instead. U N Owen is officially the most epic of video game songs I have ever heard and having obsessed over various other remixes of this song for months now, I heard this remix one night and was struck through the Muses by inspiration. xD I think I succesfully managed to combine Nami, Aigis, and the great Flandre herself somehow in this version. I have to agree with Haz and a few others here--I think this really did turn out to be something great. It makes me feel good, knowing I can effectively change my style (xD I don't think I have a style to call just my own, actually...) in such a short amount of time. The idea of this video is slightly based on Night World this time, though I did indeed warp it into my own plot. I mentioned the soulmate principle in my last vid, didn't I? Well. On with the story. --- STORY; Ashe has been wondering for her sanity lately. She's been so tired lately, and anxious, without any reason for it. And it seems that every time she closes her eyes, a strange young girl named Naminé is there to talk to her, when she herself would rather avoid conversation. Naminé is a harbringer of fate and destiny; her words are not spoken by choice of her own but merely passed along as messages from some greater fate. She has taken a liking upon Ashe and decides to tell her in advance, that things may go smoothly, of what is in store for her. That is, the soulmate principle, an unbreakable bond between two individuals binding them as one. Once soulmates are united, they will never be whole again without one another. It has rather the opposite effect. Ashe, ever the rebel, sneers at such an idea, and then becomes worried. Surely it is just a story. Such things don't happen in real life. People are never destined to be together; things just merely play out and break apart, as in an endless cycle. But then why is it that every so often in the corners of her mind, she feels a shiver, a spark, and just beyond her line of sight is the face of a boy she's never met before? She refuses to abide by predetermined fate. Naminé is the anxious one now, knowing that when people fail to comply, tragedy strikes. Fate will do anything to maintain the upper hand. Time passes. She comes across Rasler, who is kind, and good, and cares for her deeply. And against all her expectations, he asks her to marry him. Something warns her in the back of her mind, but she has grown to love him for his own sake. She accepts. The wedding day arrives, and the country couldn't be any happier. In the midst of the celebration, however, she glimpses a young man watching. She is stricken with something like familiarity and something rather like lightning. All of reality floats away in place of an indescribable place where they are simply staring, looking at each other as though they have known one another for all their lives. Ashe slowly but surely remembers she isn't supposed to like this. Rasler looks at her, wondering what has caught her eye, and snaps her back to reality. Riku has no more idea than she of what has just taken place. But then, he's never been one to follow any set destiny either. No sooner has the wedding taken place than the following day, unexpected war arrives to Dalmasca, bringing whispered promises of ruin and destruction. Rasler rides off into battle--and is killed. Ashe can no longer hear him on the other line. She is heartbroken, and shocked, and utterly miserable. It doesn't help that the strange silver-haired boy is still on her mind. Naminé watches from afar. Something like this was bound to happen. Sure enough, the ruin arrives. Riku, bitter to the end that there are still things beyond his control, flies to see Ashe once more while she remains grief-stricken on her airship, as though futilely hoping Rasler will start speaking to her once again though all there is to hear currently is static. The bond strikes between them again. Neither of them want this. They don't need this... Night World angelsinflight14 2008-11-23 | "The laws of Night World are very clear: humans must never learn that Night World exists. And members of Night World must never fall in love with a human." --- I wanted to get this out for Halloween...xD Ha, we see how that went, don't we? I have not worked so hard on a video since Mirror Face. Not only that, but this is a LONG video, and it's not a Disney song, and it did require patience and hard work. x__x I want to fall over dead, I'm so happy it's done! This is based, yet again, on a book, and this time, I'm hoping to get a good deal of attention for said book. Books. Eh, it's a series. The series being Night World, a compilation of stories by the wonderful L. J. Smith. Do not mention Twilight here. I am past my limits for spazzing over Twilight; I was past them months ago. Twilight has become a big load of commercialized SUCKFEST now, so I choose Night World. Not least of all because all these books, save for the last story which has yet to be written, were published about twenty years before Twilight was even conceived. To give you a better idea of what Night World is, the back of the first book, which includes three of the original nine stories, says this: "Vampires, werewolves, witches, shapeshifters--they live among us without our knowledge. Night World is their secret society, a secret society with very strict rules. And falling in love breaks all the laws of the Night World." I went in order with these three stories. When the next book comes out, I might make another Night World vid for the next three stories. ...xD God, I hope it doesn't take so much energy out of me the next time. Know one thing I obsess over in the Night World universe--the soulmate principle. Soulmates are bound to one another through fate and destiny, with a bond that cannot be broken. Some soulmates experience dizzying sweetness upon their recognition of one another. For others, the intense emotions are too much. There were a lot of characters I would rather have replaced with others, but all in all, I am damn proud of this. I mean, I'd have loved being able to use Matt from Death Note as James or Elena of the Turks for Mary-Lynette... Anyway, on with the info! --- xD There's so much to put here! I can't tell you all of it without exceeding text limits, so I'll set up a deviantart link to go in-depth with each character and in the meantime I'll give you the back-of-the-book summary for each story, as well as the entire cast list and references to soulmates. "In 'Secret Vampire,' Poppy thought the summer would last forever. Then she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Now Poppy's only hope for survival is James, her friend and secret love. It's a battle between black magic and white magic in 'Spellbinder.'" A note on 'Spellbinder': The description doesn't do it justice, in my opinion. It's really more in-depth than some Sabrina the Teenaged Witch rerun. Were All Looking for Alaska angelsinflight14 2008-11-18 | "How will I ever escape this labyrinth?" --- Please note that, yes, I was rather inspired by SPAZZLINGS' idea of video representation of a book. Her video of the book Redeeming Love is ah-may-zeeng. Go watch it. --- Hope - n., the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best Hope - The girl, up until recently, who almost became hopeless. Um. I haven't been at my best lately. Those who know me may have seen a decreased interest from me within conversations, aloof behavior so to speak. For this I am sorry. I won't bore you with the details of my personal life, but rest assured that things are getting better. I have always tried to tell Grease, Haz, and Shad what is wrong, though. So they probably know, and I'm glad I've had them with me while I've been so upset. This video is dedicated not so much to a person but as my personal reenactment for a book. Looking for Alaska, by John Green to be more precise. For a first novel, this book is eloquent, heartbreaking, and inspiring. I decided against using text for this because it would have taken so much time and taken something away from the video for me personally. Also it leaves the video easier to understand for those of you too lazy to read my comments here. I did cry during parts of this novel. But then, I sometimes cry quite easily. It's up to you if you decide to read it. But I would recommend it strongly. I shan't give away any plot details, but those of you watching the video knowing I tried to represent key scenes of the novel should understand easily enough. The back of the book describes it as such: BEFORE: Miles "Pudge" Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the "Great Perhaps" (François Rabelais, poet) even more. He heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.
