A firm grip is needed when cutting Used Japanese Tatami (high resistance)

A second UJT was cut that I didn’t film(sorry)
but used bad technique and I barely made it through the mat

The best targets to show a katanas ability to cut and the users skills for Tameshigiri are:

Bamboo
Tatami/Mugen Dachi Mat
Used Japanese Tatami Omote (UJTO)

Wara is the most common mats you can find in the US right now due to a tatami shortage

Very soft target that allows the cutter to make bad cuts and still pull off some advanced patterns with bad angles unlike Tatami

I’ve used these Wara mats to learn new advanced cutting patterns while using tatami/ujto to improve my basic cutting
