Mounting instructions for glueing tubular tyres to aluminium rims Conti Bicycle Tyres 2020-09-30 | Aluminium RimsClean the rim of all old residual glue using acitone or benzine. Lightly sand new rims.Inflate the tyre a little and fit onto the rim to pre stretch, then remove (or if you have an old rim, you can use this in advance to store / pre-stretch your tyre). DO NOT USE YOUR FOOT AND PULL THE TYRE TO PRE--STRETCH!Apply Continental Aluminium Rim Cement onto the rim in regular spots without the tyre on, and spread with a suitable brush. Our tins of special rim cement come with a small brush attached to the inside of the tin lid. Let this layer of glue dry overnight or for at least 12 hoursApply a second coat as above, and again allow 12 hours for dryingApply a third coat to the rim and also apply a coat of cement to the base tape of the tyre. Let dry for 24 hoursThe tyre is now ready for mounting. Apply a final coat to the base of the tyre and also to the rim leaving an area of 5cm without this final coat, opposite side of the rim to the valve. This will ease removal of the tyre in the event of a punctureMount the slightly inflated tyre onto the rim. Start at the valve and pull the tyre onto the rim in both directions simultaneously. Try to prevent the sidewall of the tyre from coming into contact with the glue on the rimFor the final 20cm, place your fingers on the rim, and thumbs on the tyre, and with the other side of the wheel resting on your hips, use pressure through your thumbs to push the tyre onto the rimCheck the tyre has been mounted evenly and inflate to the max. pressure to help centre the tyre on the rim. If the tyre is still not running true, deflate and locate the area which needs to be re-centred. Do this by pulling the area away from the rim and re-centre. Re-inflate and re-check.Once the tyre has no radial run-out, roll the inflated tyre along the ground to assist the bonding process Clean the rim of any excess glue using acitoneLeave the wheel for 24hours before riding
