Donkey Kong Country 2: Level 41: K Rool Duel (Final Boss & Ending)
updated
Hyenas were sent to kill him, but they were stopped by a thorn field, allowing Simba to escape with his life…
But now, with no one to raise or nurture him, Simba quickly found himself lost, thirsty and hungry in the middle of nowhere, dying from the intense heat and preparing to be picked away by vultures.
A delay of Scar’s intention to kill him, this would have been the end of Simba…
…had it not been for him being saved by a most-unlikely duo.
Two best friends - a snappy wisecracking meerkat, and a portly warthog with a… rather embarrassing problem downwind - bowled the birds away for fun.
When they saw the lion cub lying and dying on the ground, they were cautious at first, but decided to take him in and nurse him back to health.
These two are called Timon & Pumbaa, and together - with their love for eating bugs and the open paradise that was their jungle home, they taught the poor young Simba the ways of their peaceful lives of no worries and their problem-free philosophy:
*HAKUNA MATATA*
----------
After a series of "serious" levels in a row, it's nice to have a calmer, colorful level, again. Enjoy this, though, because it will be the last of them for this game.
A lot enemies here include spitting frogs and fast spiders, but they're not as aggressive as those accursed Hyenas.
One of the set pieces of this level is the long waterfall climb near the end of the level, where you have Simba jump on logs falling down from the waterfall in order to go up. Make your jumps count, or you could end up falling into the water below for instant death!
----------
The other set piece of this level is the gorilla you fight at the end of it. He was apparently in the storyboard phases of the movie, but never managed to be realized beyond that. So he was put into this game instead.
Dodge or jump on his coconuts as he tosses them at you as an attack. Eventually, he'll stand up and shake the ground that will hurt you if you're standing on it at the time.
But as he does this, THEN you can jump on him for damage. Any earlier than this, and he'll just swat you away like an annoying fly.
Follow the gorilla up through the remaining parts of this stage and continue not getting hit by his coconuts like you were playing a game of Donkey Kong.
Eventually, after the final hit, the Gorilla will hit the ground beneath him one last time. This causes the ground to fall apart RIGHT UNDER HIM! Plunging him into the lake below.
And then you beat the level!
----------
This is the final level in which you are Young Simba, because at this point of the film, Simba settled into his new life with Timon & Pumbaa and tried to forget about the old life and family that he left behind.
He grew up with the meerkat and the warthog into a fully grown lion, remaining blissfully unaware of what was transpiring of his original home by his evil conniving uncle...
And the game is still young, and I still want to do more with it!

Against who else? None other than Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, of course!
----------
Sonic runs into Eggman again, as the mad doctor was up to a new scheme. He had found some kind of ultimate power that he left vauge details about towards Sonic.
Whatever's going on with him, Sonic's ready to stop him again!
----------
The basic attack of the Egg Hammer Mega is to slam its head on you for damage.
HOWEVER! If you hear Eggman say "Get ready to be schooled!", then that slam is going to be instant death!
In both cases, hit the top of its head while its on the ground, and you have to do this faster as it takes more hits.
Sometimes, the machine will drop its head to roll around like a giant barrel. It can push Sonic off the ledge for an instant KO. So just jump over it, and be aware that it can do this more than once at a time during later parts of the battle.
----------
Eggman was eventually bested by Sonic once more, and he left the scene in a huff.
Sonic was ready to catch up to him, but then he noticed a strange jewel Eggman left behind on the ground. It was not a Chaos Emerald since it had a different shape, but it still nonetheless resembled one.
Sonic tried to pick up this emerald, but it was suddenly grabbed by a mysterious cat girl, who appeared before Sonic in a burst of flames.
She simply thanked Sonic for helping her regain this emerald before taking off on her own. Sonic could only wonder who that was...
----------
Seeing the map screen for the first time, Tails is Sonic's navigator.
And of course, that mysterious cat girl was Blaze the Cat. After completing all of Leaf Storm, you can now play Blaze's campaign and learn this game story from her perspective.
But for now, I'm going to continue through Sonic's campaign. More stages to beat, and more Chaos Emeralds to collect!
Shadow's popularity was immense from Sonic Adventure 2. It led to his revival in Sonic Heroes, and then ultimately (heh) led him to have his own featured game!
That's right! Sonic takes a backseat in this game! It's fitting that I finally cover it sense SEGA is celebrating the Year of Shadow to honor the grand return of this game's exclusive material in an updated version of Sonic Generations!
This, alongside Sonic Rush, also form the first games in which Jason Griffith and other 4Kids voice actors from Sonic X now play their roles in actual Sonic games!
----------
Follow the defeat of Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes, Shadow was still without his full memory. He only had a faint idea of his past.
Suddenly, the world was invaded by a massive alien force: The Black Arms.
Led by Black Doom, the Black Arms has a possible connection to Shadow’s creation.
However…
It’s up to YOU to decide what Shadow must do to uncover his past!
Will you have Shadow continue to help Sonic and the rest of his friends, along with G.U.N. forces, to save the world from this new threat?
Or will have Shadow return to being evil, side with the Black Arms, and take further revenge against humanity?
Between Sonic and his friends, G.U.N. and their Commander, Black Doom and his Black Arms, and even Dr. Eggman and his Egg Pawn army, a massive war is on, and Shadow lies in the center of it all!
Dimps' spiritual successor to their Sonic Advance trilogy, and one of the two starts of Jason Griffith and other 4Kids members from Sonic X voicing the characters in the games, themselves.
This game's entire soundtrack was composed by Jet Set Radio's Hideki Naganuma, so get ready to jam to some really funky beats!
More importantly, this game is the debut of Blaze the Cat!
----------
As soon as you start a new game, you are immediately off running as Sonic in the first Zone: Leaf Storm.
This game feels more like a followup to Sonic Advance 2's design than Advance 3's. You're back to using one character at a time, and the game's mechanics and level design emphasis high periods of SPEED! These levels use both of the DS' screens to show the height of where your character is during the level.
To further emphasis this game' speed, the Advance game's Boost Mode has now been upgraded to a Super Boost that you can use at anytime as long as the Tension Gauge is filled. Defeat enemies, collect certain items, and perform a chain of tricks off of different things (such as Springs) to boost that gauge. When it's high enough, you'll reach a powerful Max Tension state that you can try to keep going with the aforementioned moves.
Sonic also has a sort of Jump Dash kick, which turns into a Homing Attack when he's near an enemy. Just don't use it too close to the ground or you might get yourself hurt, instead.
The Boost is gonna be used A LOT in this game. You might even forget that Sonic still has his Spin Dash!
----------
The Boost is so important to this game that you'll need to use it long enough to activate a Special Generator located somewhere in the Act and reach a Special Stage. There will be more than one of these per Act, but you can only get one color of a Chaos Emerald per Zone.
As such, I used two Special Generators in the same Act. In both cases, I still ended up getting the Red Chaos Emerald.
For the Special Stages themselves, Sonic runs through a half-pipe like the Special Stages in Sonic 2. He can't jump, though. All you can normally do is use the Touch Screen to move him along the half-pipe to collect Rings and avoid bombs.
Occasionally, you can hit a Spring to launch Sonic in the air. Tap the onscreen buttons in numerical order as soon as you can, and he'll pull a trick that gives him 10 extra Rings.
----------
I've decided to split this playthrough up between its regular two Acts and make its third Boss Act its own video.
You go through two Rounds of collecting enough Rings

Thanks to the cooperation of the Hyenas and the wildebeest stampede that they caused, Scar was able to kill his older brother, King Mufasa.
Fortunately for Scar, Mufasa's son, Simba, was only able to see his father's final fall, but not the evil lion he called “uncle” responsible for it.
Taking advantage of this, Scar tricked his nephew into believing that it was his own fault that he lost his father. Scar instilled fear into Simba of what would happen if the lions back in his home were to find out, especially his mother and Mufasa's now-widowed wife, Queen Sarabi.
Scar suggested that Simba exiled himself, to run away... run FAR away... and never return...
And then once Simba dashed away in shame... Scar sent his Hyenas after him to finish his own nephew off.
*"Kill him."*
----------
This level doesn't actually have Hyenas actively chasing after you, but it does try to simulate the feeling of not staying in one place in a different way.
From time to time, the level will shake, and then a rock will try to drop on Simba for damage. This can be a bit annoying if you're focused on swinging with rocks or climbing walls. You will also have to worry about outrunning fast boulders that will instantly kill you on contact.
To alleviate this a bit, there are secret shortcuts you can discover if you have Simba roll into them.
You're making your way down the stage, and you'll be close to the end once you've reached its bottomless pits. You then finish it by having Simba escape from the Hyenas through the large thorn field.
----------
Since the Hyenas did not like getting their butts jabbed and stabbed by the brambles, they decided to stop their hunt down on Simba.
"If ya ever come back, we'll *KILL* ya!!!"
Following this, Scar returned to The Pridelands to confirm Mufasa & Simba's deaths (which was only half-correct, unbeknownst to him). Zazu, Rafiki, and all of the lionesses, including Nala and Sarabi, mourned the loss of their King and the seeming loss of their young Prince…
Which meant that now Scar could take up the mantle as the next King with no objections, and his first initiative with this title was to integrate the Hyenas directly into the lions' society. Moreso, make both him and THEM the ones that got the (literal) lion's share of all of the food they ever caught in their hunts.
But again... if only those Hyenas had successfully killed Simba, this would've been the complete end of the once-prosperous Pridelands…
But then they noticed someone approaching them... it was Bolearis!
He was in quite a hurry but he was soon afterwards got healed. He has just escaped from Keves Castle to tell Ouroboros some very concerning news...
----------
Ethel and her Colony 4's previous interaction with Ouroboros was seen by Consul N and the Kevesi Queen as a contagion to their order or their nation and the truth of their world now that the Colony was released from their Flame Clock by Ouroboros. So they were threatening to use the Annihilator to destroy Colony 4 entirely.
However, before this destruction could be commenced, N offered Ethel a chance at redemption from this... IF she swore to destroy Ouroboros once and for all...
And not only was she assigned to do this. Silvercoat Ethel - through the guidance of Consuls O and P, would also be joined by someone else for the mission.
Her own sworn rival - Smoldering Cammuravi - would also join her for this dangerous task. Why...?
Simply because Moebius found it more fun for this to happen, rather than just killing Ethel and Cammuravi themselves...
To assisted with the task, Ethel & Cammuravi were given new, specialized Ferronises, designed specifically to kill Ouroboros will the full extent of their individual skills.
----------
Upon realizing this situation, Bolearis escaped with his life to warn Ouroboros this bad news. They had little time left before Ethel & Cammuravi finds them. They already knew where they were located, which is also what allowed Bolearis to find them, first.
Even though Ethel did not fully desire to kill Ouroboros, she had to if she wanted her own life to be spared by the Consuls. Ethel wished them good luck, while also threatening that she was holding back in her inevitable fight against them.
Nevertheless, she gave Bolearis schematics of Keves Castle, so at the very least he can rely this situation back to their Colony so everyone back there can try to prepare a way to fight back against their own castle.
----------
Bolearis can't believe everything that's about to go down. From his own commander fighting Ouroboros, to teaming up with her own rival to do this.
But Ouroboros were not backing down from this. If they had to fight Ethel and Cammuravi, there was still concern about that Annihilator...
Ouroboros decided that they have to destroy the Annihilator so that it can't destroy Colony 4, or any other colonies they've liberated, for that matter. With that, Bolearis returned to his Colony 4 to prepare for a Plan B.
Noah actually has knowledge of Keves Castle, and gathered his team together for a way that they can sneak inside the castle without bringing too much attention to them by its forces. Noah even had a way for them to escape after they've finished their busniess there.
----------
The rest of this video focuses on me traveling through more of Maktha Wildwood. I end up venturing through its lower section.
This part of Maktha is full of dangerous enemies, but the worst part of this are the poison swamps that damage you as you walk over them.
If you want to try and muscle through this, switch to your character with the highest HP (preferably a Defender of some sort) and try your luck with this poison and wherever you're trying to go. I also suggest this when trying to fall from high cliffs. Sometimes you gotta test these dangers.
I even go through a Standard Quest by a Nopon that ends up being more of a roundabout of running: "The Wildwood Life".
Lastly, if you want to cancel ANY fight against an enemy, remember that you can just grab onto a ladder or some vines. EVERY Xenoblade game has this, somehow.
----------
After some more rest, I venture even further through the Wildwood and through the game's story.
In a musty dusty valley, he put up some wierd signs everywhere that warned of a dangerous falling poop territory, all in an attempt to lead Izzy into some kind of trap...
Izzy & Tentomon had spent two months searching for Gennai so that they can learn more about their Crests. Although Tentomon was exhausted of the search, he still very much admired his human partner's curiousity and desire to know more about his power and the world around him.
----------
Izzy & Tentomon eventually detected the falling poop signs, and naturally, they did not want to walk into any territory where they get pelted by poop. So they had to go a different way, not knowing yet that this was a part of DeviDemimon's trick against them...
This eventually led the two to a dead end, where they ended up getting dropped into a hidden pitfall.
They were taken into a mysterious void, where they were greeted by a very alien Digimon named Vade(r)mon. He had threatened that they were falling into Hell, and that if Izzy wanted to escaped, he had to pray to reject the curiousity or inquisitivity in his heart, claiming that Izzy was being greedy of hastily wanting to know everything that he could.
----------
This led Izzy & Tentomon into a strange pocket dimension, where Izzy had completely lost his mind and heart, and even his Crest, putting him in a buzzed trance, and also meaning that Tentomon had lost all power to help him.
The entranced Izzy then forced by Vademon to be taught of his ways of Cosmic Power, including forces him to spell and shape the alphabet.
This was all a part of DemiDevimon's plan to get Izzy's Crest, but Vademon was more focused on stealing Izzy's inner heart more than anything else. It seemed that DemiDevimon failed another one of his schemes, but then he offered some kind of rich poop to Vademon if he actually took Izzy's Tag and Crest for him.
----------
(This portion of this Episode is very skimped from the anime episode it's based on, so work with me.)
Tentomon continued to struggle to bring Izzy back to normal, but to no avail...
That's when Vademon finally tried to take Izzy's Tag & Crest, and when it all seemed over for them...
...Izzy snapped out of his trance, and power was returning to Tentomon, enough to Digivole him to Kabuterimon. Even then, this was not enough. Izzy still lacked his inquisitive heart that Vademon stole from him.
But he pulled through and managed to regain it, anyway! Because he had to realize for himself that his curiosity was a very important part of himself. It was greed to keep knowing more and more about everything. That's just how he is!
No matter what, "Koushiro-han" wanted to continue to expand, improve, and increase his *KNOWLEDGE!*
And so...
*Through the power of Koushiro Izumi's Crest of Knowledge...*
*KABUTERIMON SUPER DIGIVOLVED TO... ALTURKABUTERIMON!! (MEGAKABUTERIMON!!)*
----------
Lesson learned for Izzy: Knowledge IS Power, and that power… *NOW SURGED THROUGH HIS DIGIMON’S VIENS!*
Tentomon's new power as MegaKabuterimon was able to not only defeat Vademon, but allow him and Izzy to escape from his pocket dimension. The sudden surprise from this caused DemiDevimon to run away once again.
MegaKabuterimon was short-lived thanks to his own power, De-Digivolving him back to Motimon after the battle was finished.
Right afterwards, Izzy was able to see Matt & T.K. again. This automatically raises Izzy & Matt's Bonding Rank with each other.
From there, Izzy finally got his wish and got to speak with Gennai again. The distortions between the Real World and Digital World were still happening and the kids needs to gather everyone together again to fix this.
Speaking of Yamato, he and Gabumon had recently finished their boat trip. It looks like they got blown away by strong winds to a different place. For now, there was a restaurant nearby that they could check out.
----------
Inside the restaurant, business was booming as one of its managers, Veggiemon, had a lot of orders to fulfilled, and one of his waiters was... Gomamon???
Going outside, Gomamon was able to bring Matt & Gabumon to Joe, too. Joe & Gomamon were searching for food, but got tricked when a Digimon told them that they'd lead them to humans. They then got hungry and were lead to the restaurant, but now they're forced to be workers there to pay off a food debt.
Veggiemon then saw Joe & Gomamon and forced them back to work. Apparently, every time they screwed up, they had to work for two more weeks.
They were all then met with the head owner, Digitamamon. Matt urged him to let Joe go, but he refused. Matt decided to help reduce Joe's debt by working with him after a second trip away to look for T.K..
(And this automatically raises Matt & Joe's Bonding Rank with each other).
Digitamamon then encountered that dastardly DemiDevimon. He plans to reward him with something if he accepted his offer...
----------
Whatever this offer was, it made Digitamamon force Matt to work with him at his restaurant before he could leave, gesturing some kind of threat to his friend Joe if he refused...
Matt was forced to accept, but at the restaurant, he got frustrated with Joe wondering why he came back instead of looking for T.K.. He even had to calm himself down and apologize to Joe for the sudden outburst.
But then later, things got worse as Joe was screwing up in his duties more, which in turn made Matt more worried about how long before he could leave and find T.K., again.
Unbeknownst to them, DemiDevimon was deliberately causing a lot of the accidents Joe was blamed for, in an attempt to get Matt REALLY angry at Joe and threatening their friendship...
DemiDevimon then had planted a rock for Joe to trip over, but unbeknownst to HIM, Sora took that rock away before he could notice her before Joe could have another accident...
----------
At night, while playing his harmonica, DemiDevimon then approached Matt for the first time and tried tricking him into believe that Joe's mistakes were on purpose, making him even more concerned about their situation...
The next day, while Matt was urging Digitamamon to let him go, DemiDevimon then spilled a stack of plates behind their back.
Matt angrily blamed Joe for this accident, and (rightfully so) Joe swore it wasn't his fault.
----------
Matt went outside to calm himself down, but then a familiar voice perked him up.
It was T.K.!
Matt returned to the restaurant to see that his little brother was safe and sound, courtesy of Tai.
Matt was so astonished to not only see Tai again after a long absence, but also that he took good care of T.K. It was time to look for the rest of their friends...
...but Matt refused to rejoin with Joe. He was convinced that his clumsiness will only get in the way. As Joe was able to hear this, he felt very saf. Matt then turned his anger at Tai, and tried to leave on his own with T.K. He decided he no longer needed friends...
But then Digitamamon wanted to put a stop to that. With DemiDevimon's presence there, as well, everyone got to realize the next evil trick this Digimon tried to pull on them!
Digitamamon and Veggimon captured T.K, threatening to harm him should Matt & Joe refuse to work for him anymore.
----------
In a rare act of bravery, Joe CHARGED at Veggiemon, freeing T.K. from his grasp, even as it hurt himself in the process. Joe wanted to make up for his clumsiness with Matt by trying to rescue his little brother. It's the least he could do as one of his friends and even despite Matt's anger at him earlier.
(Joe's Bonding Rank with both Matt and T.K. get raised with each other.)
Garurumon tried to fight Digitamamon, but he was too strong for him...
But Matt didn't give up! See what Joe had risked himself to do to save his little brother, Yamato had to realize that his strength does not only have to come from himself...
...but moreso, the ties that he made from others. To believe in his team's *FRIENDSHIP!*
And so...
Through the power of Yamato Ishida's Crest of Friendship...
*GARURUMON SUPER DIGIVOLVED TO... WEREGARURUMON!!*
----------
Digitamamon was defeated, and both Veggiemon and DemiDevimon were scared off.
Matt not only thanked Joe for rescuing T.K. but apologized to him for earlier.
It was now time for the team to look for more friends, but they split up into different groups again as they were bring pointed towards different sources.
Some Lagoon-dwelllers were talking about that piece being worn as a decoration by someone named Hermie, specifically a giant hermit crab named Hermie III. His shell is a christmas tree, and the Lagoon-dwellers were putting the Beanstar Piece at the very top of him.
Hermie first recognized the moustachioed man in red approaching him as... Santa Claus (or Thanta Clauth in his speech).
The Lagoon-dwellers finally recognized Mario for who he is after he showed them his famous jump. The ladies surronded him in complete awe at his presence. They also had their turn with Luigi, surprisingly, after they recognized him, too.
But all this attention on the Mario Bros. made Hermie ANGRY!
----------
For this fight, you can attack not only Hermie's eyes, but also his claws. For his claws, it's both for offense and on defense.
----------
Hermie was eventually beaten, but this was just to calm him down. He had no other choice but to finally give the plumbers his Beanstar Piece.
After all this time, I finally got the first one! Now to find the remaining three, though Hermie hopes you may have something to replace the piece he had to give up.
----------
The next Beanstar Piece I head for is the one in Chucklehuck Woods. To give you an idea of where you need to go, look for the Ankoopa that you may have found here before. Fire Dashing him out of the way will unlock the path towards where you'll find this area's Beanstar Piece.
...And moreso, what you have to do to win it.
Learning these new techniques also finally gives Mario & Luigi new Bros. Attacks that involves their elemental Hand Powers. So I just use these a lot against the next waves of enemies I run into so I can quickly unlock their Advance variations.
----------
To reach the last location of the 1st Beanstar Piece, you're gonna course through different parts of Gwarhar Lagoon to find Boo Statues that will create a bridge of rocks that will lead you to where that Beanstar Piece ended up with.
That Fire Dash and Thunder Tickle will be required to get this done.
You find two of them, but then a third one runs in to tell the others about how the Beanstar Piece was found and worn as a decoration by another resident named Hermie.
However, the path towards this was blocked by another Ankoopa. You can't knock them down (I think...), but give this time as you just can't do it *yet*...
----------
Instead, make your way towards the Relaxation Room just north of where you find this pesky Anikoopa.
Pay for a hand massage reservation by its owners, the Jellyfish Sisters.
The Mario Bros. sat down and quickly got their messages by the sisters.
The sisters were shocked (and burned) that the brothers mastered the Firebrand & Thunderhand powers. Why? Because they could both use those powers, as well!
The Jellyfish Sisters decided that they wanted to teach the Mario Bros. some very special hand techniques!
(For a violently-huge fee if they don't do something for them afterwards...)
----------
The green sister, Merri, first shows Luigi a new Thunderhand technique. With Luigi behind Mario, you can zap Mario for a few seconds and then slowly move together in a locked position.
Then the red sister, Gigi, teaches Mario a new Firebrand technique... and this...
Involves burning Luigi's biscuits! Even Gigi does this to Merri, the result is the green sibling will dash away at high speed! This even gives you enough force to knock down certain obstacles, such as rocks or even that one Koopa...
With this Firebrand dash, you can also cancel it sooner than normal.
----------
The next task the Jellybean Sisters want the Mario Bros. to do for them is to use their new Hand techniques to reach the Red & Green Pearl beans and bring them back for them.
If they can't do that, the sisters will threaten them with a lesson charge of 100,000 Beanbean coins
----------
Luigi's technique can be used to move Boo Statues. They vanish when you look at them, so this technique lets you push them without looking right at them. This can also be used to navigate slow rolling bars.
Mario's technique can be used to zip pass fast rolling bars, and indeed they CAN knock down Ankoopas! FINALLY!
----------
After finishing this Pearl Bean task, you can continue on your way, knock down that first Ankoopa, and head towards that first Beanstar Piece, again.
Indeed, this sand-stuck ship, the S.S. Chuckola is still ran by skeleton sailors. The way to the Beanstar Piece is blocked by a sailor, however. The only way to get access is to have a Membership Card.
----------
To get that Membership Card, you gotta play a Barrel minigame that's ran by a Dry Kong named Bink.
You have to line up red and blue barrels up in a full row to gain points. Mario moves barrels vertically while Luigi moves barrels horizontally. To win, you have to line up at least 10 Barrel points.
If you've gotten far enough into this, you'll eventually run into yellow barrels, and although green barrels don't appear in this video, they'll eventually show up if you're even further, too.
I win the Membership Card doing this, and decide to keep going through the game rather than playing Barrel more for Hee Beans.
----------
Going into a new room with this Membership Card, Mario & Luigi find the Beanstar Piece, but another sailor still won't let them have it. He first needs them to help him out with another issue in the ship.
A bloated sailor named... Bloat... is stuck in the wall. He drank so much Chuckola Cola and now he can't move.
What you have to do is go up to a certain room and find some notable wooden planks on the ground. Hammer it down and it will cause a pack of dynamite to fall next to Bloat.
Go back to where Bloat is, and light that dynamite with Mario's Firebrand.
----------
The dynamite was able to blast Bloat out of the crack of the wall, but the bigger crack the explosives caused ended up loosening the entire S. S. Chuckola from its entire wall from all the sand it took in!
This ended up bringing the whole ship to the ocean, but then it crashed into a huge rock, causing it to sink into the depths of Gwarhar Lagoon below.
The Beanstar Piece ended up drifting off again, so you gotta go for a swim towards it, now.
Take advantage of Mario's Firebrand and Luigi's Thunderhand more to defeat the seafood you encounter and unlock more pathways. You'll eventually run into another Yellow Warp Pipe that will bring you back to the surface.
Scar was able to lead Simba into a canyon to set up his trap. After Scar left him alone, he gave his signal to the Hyenas to harass some nearby wildebeests in the canyon.
There were... HUNDREDS of wildebeests in the canyon, and in their torment, they were now racing towards where Simba was!
----------
In this very short and automatic level, you just have to last about 1 minute and 15 seconds without dying against the wildebeests trampling over you or having Simba run over some rocks, and sometimes these rock don't show where they are before they appear onscreen.
Just know that you'll take more damage from the wildebeests than you will from the rocks. "OW!"
----------
To continue his plan, Scar led Mufasa to the wildebeest stampede so he can try to save his son.
Mufasa managed to rescue Simba eventually, but struggled to escape from the stampede, himself. Mufasa then climbed a cliff in his last chance for escape...
But his brother Scar was there at the top... ready to finish him off...
*"LONG LIVE THE KING..."*
Simba's fantastic song about becoming the next king was able to get Zazu away from him and Nala, but unfortunately this caused the two cubs to roll themselves into a haunted part of the land where the sun - the light - does not touch.
They are threatened by pack of a lion's natural rival: The Hyenas!
----------
Like the boss at the end of Level 1, except now you're gonna have to fight multiple hyenas at times. Sometimes you can't advance until you've beaten them all.
You also have some vultures to pick with, too.
But it's here where the platforming gets a lot more finicky. You'll have Simba swing from bones, and leap off small rocks in order to outrun rising, insta-death geysers.
Lastly, although you fight SOME hyenas, you don't every get to see THE named Hyenas in this game.
----------
By the end of this setting's course in the film, the hyena pack of Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed were thwarted off from eating Simba & Nala by Simba's father, King Mufasa. The three of them, as well as Zazu, were all able to return to the Pridelands in one piece.
But... unbeknownst to them, Mufasa's younger brother and Simba's uncle, Scar, was overlooking the scene. Afterwards, he decided to help the Hyenas with their plight of food scarcity...
...IF they help him kill not only Mufasa, but Simba, too, all for a plan for HIM to become the next king of The Pridelands.
It was time for the Hyenas to Be Prepared...
But being a bit of a wildcard (or wildcat), Simba figures out a way to keep Zazu off of him and Nala: By singing!
----------
This whole level takes on the same look as what happens when Simba got his song going.
This is only the second level in the game, yes, but it's also already a pretty hard one.
There are two factors to this:
- Simba gets to ride on a pink ostrich. You just got make sure he and the ostrich don't crash into anything, such as tree branches and pink rhinos. You either duck, jump, or double jump to avoid these obstacles, but jumping can be finicky as doing this or double jumping at the wrong time can still net you a death.
-- There are two portions of this ostrich riding: The first portion has arrows to help you. The second portion DOESN'T. So you'll have to keep your eyes peeled and guess correctly.
- The other big factor of this game is that when you let the big blue rhinos launch you in the air, you're gonna get caught by blue and pink monkeys that toss Simba around. You need to roar at the pink monkeys so that they change their direction of where they toss Simba and lead him on a tossing course that lets you advance and even eventually beat the level.
I had read that this level was made to already be hard just so the game can be more attractive for the rental market at the time. That didn't work in my childhood household because my dad just outright owned the game.
(Happy Father's Day, by the way.)
Lastly, this is the part of the film that Nala does appear in, but this game doesn't feature her in it AT ALL, not even in her later significant appearance.
----------
The second of Timon & Pumbaa's Bonus Levels are Bug Hunts.
In a Bug Hunt, you just see and use Timon and try to nab as a many bugs as you can with him within the time limit and without grabbing any black widow spiders.
As you collect bugs, you gain more and more 1-UPs and Continues back and forth.
For some reason, this game caps your Life Counter at 8. I would think it would stop at 9 if it's not gonna change to double-digits.
As such, I wanted to cover the very first video game it ever got, just like I have with Aladdin on ITS 30th Anniversary.
I'm not only playing the Sega Genesis version of this game, but also a double-layered hack made from two, the first by Pyron and the second by kenoi, in order to improve the game's use of colors to be closer to its SNES counterpart.
As far as overall presentation goes, the SNES version is superior, but the Genesis version just plays and flows faster to me (must be Blast Processing). Plus, both version were made with involvement by Virgin Interactive, who also only made the Genesis version of Aladdin. So there's some common ground I wanted to acknowledge.
----------
Regardless of which version you play (among others I hadn't brought up), this game's level structure mostly takes after the movie's structure.
As such, the first level here starts you out wandering The Pridelands as Young Simba.
Here, Simba's main method of defeating enemies is to just jump on them. He can also roar at them to stun them with a dedicated rechargeable and extendible Roar Meter.
He can also move kinda like Sonic and go into a roll while running. It can stun and flip over the porcupines you run into, but it can also be used to access secret paths.
At the end of this stage, you have an encounter against a ravenous hyena. It is felled after jumping on it enough times, but this can't be done while its chomping and growling.
----------
Plotwise, this covers part of the movie sometime after its grand opening sequence where Simba has grown enough into a talking cub.
The level likewise finishes with his father Mufasa having a talk with him over how much of the kingdom they own, what Simba will inherit from his father once it's his turn to be the king, and teaching him about the great Circle of Life.
"Everything the light touches... is our kingdom."
----------
At the end of most levels, you go through a Bonus Level involving Timon & Pumbaa. There are two types of these bonuses.
The first of these is Bug Toss, where you control Pumbaa and have him catch the and eat as many of the bugs Timon drops from above as you can.
Let a single "good" bug fall to the bottom of the screen, or eat a "bad" bug, and you lose. To try to help with this, you can use the A Button to make Pumbaa smart bomb all the onscreen bugs away with a powerful belch!
The main point of this Bonus Level is to try and get 1-UPs and Continues out of it. They will happen randomly.
This Bonus CAN be beaten, but it’s very hard to do thanks to the complete randomness of the bugs and how fast they fall. Also, you can only make Pumbaa burp once.

Genos saw this as an oppotunity to try out his new abilities...
----------
Right now, one of Genos' deadliest attacks is to try to crush you under a spiked wall. Make sure you run to safety when this happens.
Another signature is that Genos can utilize limited versions of 5 all of your Berserk powers. He can't use them exactly like you can, though.
You beat him again... but this was only the beginning...
----------
It seemed that Genos was knocked down and cornered, but this was only for a moment.
It was their that he sprung his biggest trap! He stole all five of Kei's Berserk forms and absorbed them into his mechanical arm, transforming it into an all-powerful Berserk Arm.
It was seemingly all over for our heroes now, but the biggest mistake Genos made next...
...was revealing how Fiore came to be...
----------
When Geno was still a part of the Resistance, he encountered a dead Fiore. Just an ordinary bird that lost its life too soon.
To revive this bird, Genos fueled him with a Berserk Orb. A sixth, previously-secret orb that he had first discovered on his own...
*The Life Orb*
This Life Orb not only revived Fiore, but gave him special powers, including the ability to talk like humans.
Genos wanted this new-and-improved Fiore to join him on his next step of evolving humanity, but alas, Genos' turn to evil meant that wasn't meant to be. At present, Genos now wanted to kill Fiore to get that Life Orb back.
Since Fiore had an extra Berserk Orb inside of him, he had one last brilliant idea...
He wanted Kei to merge with him!
The process was intense for the boy as he was prepariing to surge with so much more power than he's ever had before.
But, same as it ever was, to truly wield this new power, all he had to do was...
*"GO BERSERK!!!"*
The result was a Berserk Form unlike anything he's had before. A super godly blue form that was possibly just as if not MORE powerful than all previous Berserk powers COMBINED!
With this new form, Kei & Life Orb Fiore faced off against the super-powered Genos in deep space!
----------
In this TRUE final fight, you can fly around freely, and your dash makes you invincible against projectiles. However, you can still take damage and die in this form, so make sure that doesn't happen.
You can smack Genos directly, as well as smack his red missiles he launches from his Berserk Arm back at him.
Many of Genos attacks involve either those missiles, charging at you, launching purple comets out you, scanning the screen with a deadly red laser, or using the original 5 Berserk Orbs to strike you with lightning.
But once his health is all the way down, the heroes and the villain charge up for one final clash that would make the late great Akira Toriyama proud!
They went through a powerful and epic BEAM STRUGGLE! Finish the fight once and for all by mashing the Jump Button as much as you can!
As soon as Genos gets hit, *YOU WIN!!!*
----------
Genos' weapon couldn't withstand the power of Kei & Fiore's Life Berserk Form. This caused him to lose all five of the Berserk Orb he had. They were scattered to the cosmos.
All except for the Lightning Orb, which returned to Kei.
Both sides were utterly drained and ended up plumment back down to the Earth, landing them in New Hope City.
This time, Dr. Genos was no long able to fight. His Berserk Arm was destroyed, and his plot was completely over.
And EVEN THEN, he still escaped, promising to Kei, the Berserk Boy, that they will meet again.
Kei prompted passed out afterwards, but was then later knocked awake.
He was meet by Commander Leslie, Dr. Quinn, several Resistance members and even the mom and son he rescued very early on. At this point, Genos had completely vanished and all of the Shades and Dark Energy readings were gone from the entire world.
And indeed, only one Berserk Orb remained with Kei while all of the others have disappeared.
To finish the reunion off, Dizzie came in late to give Kei a big hug.
The world was now at peace, and although it may not be everlasting, Berserk Boy will be ready to protect it!

Thanks for watching!
I enjoyed how inspired this indie game was and how much it wore this on its sleeves. I hope to see more from this developer, especially after how close I've actually been interacting with them over this game on here and on Twitter. I'm grateful to have given this game such attention and (Lightning) Justice in my own way on this very channel.
This is not the first time I've covered a game on here that's influenced by bigger series (past ones I've played have taken after the likes of Wario Land, Metroid, Castlevania, Shinobi, etc.), and it definitely won't be the last (I want to play MORE Mega Man-likes/Sonic-likes)!
Nonetheless, I conclude by saying: *More people need to give these kind of games a chance!*
Being presented by this info, Commander Leslie decided to let Kei & Fiore take on this mission. This final mission to bring Dr. Genos down once and for all.
And what better way for a stage to prove itself for this than for it to literally be called "Final Showdown".
Take note. There are no further Berserk Medals or Resistance members in this stage, because I already got all of them at this point.
(The fade out/fade in at 1:55 doesn't actually happen in the game. I didn't like how I went through this stage initially. So I did a full retake.)
----------
This is a mostly straightforward stage with linear paths. You'll be greeted by a bevy of enemies from time to time, AND you get to rematch against several bosses and at least one more ambush room.
Among these rematches are all four of Genos' lackeys, who somehow regained their Berserk powers despite Kei wielding their Berserk Orbs at this point.
To go through each of them:
- Flame Drill Guy was fired up with more puns. Kei dreaded the worst of the guys smoldering puns AS SOON AS he ran into him again. Likewise, he feels utterly doused once you've smoked him again.
- Ice Kunai Woman was probably even more annoyed with having to fight "the brat" again. She is utterly DONE with everything once you beat her again.
- Soaring Wind Lady had initially turned over a new leaf after you beat her in Abandoned Labyrinth, but then she turned back! Beat her again to give her one more 180 of her motives.
- Mine Buster Man was as angry as ever running into Kei again. He swears loud revenge on him once you beat him one more time.
If you've been injured, you'll typically run into some Health Orbs before you have to fight a boss.
----------
After a few more rooms and enemies, I eventually reach the final room in the game, where Genos awaits...
This will be in its own dedicated video! It'll be worth it!
Not even Ken was this frequent for me. I don't think anyone was.
