Okay, not exactly, but essentially. When you start to research today’s topic– fpc rennet –you will find yourself down a dark rabbit hole without much transparency.
In today’s episode, Robyn Jackson, of Cheese From Scratch, opens this can of worms with us.
Join in as Robyn:
--walks us through the history of rennet
--explains why rennet is essential in cheese
--describes 3 ways that rennet is made, including one that’s the same as Ma Ingalls used in Little House in the Big Woods
--describes what happened in the 70s that drastically threatened the world of cheesemaking
--tells us what pfizer did in the 90s that changed everything
--assures us that, in addition to making our own cheese, there is one thing we can do to avoid GMO-derived cheese
So whether you want to learn to make your own, or you just buy some cheese sometimes, this episode is for you!
Find Robyn Jackson at cheese_from_scratch_ on instagram and youtube and at cheesefromscratch.com

So yes, I'll be buying a few things on Prime Days.
And I'll share my favorites with you, when you comment "YES"
But I'll send you 2 other things too:
Some sweet d-e-a-l-s on my all-time favorite small, family businesses.
And the secret code to save 75% off your own self-sufficiency ... but don't hesitate, this crazy deal is only around a few days.

This Independence Day week I have 2 stories to share with you that never made it to a history book. One about a Founding Father you’ve never heard of & another about a seemingly unimportant effort made by a founding lady you know very well.
William Whipple and Martha Washington have something to tell you today… through their simple yet impactful actions, they emphasized the importance of taking small steps towards personal growth and building a legacy.
If you want to embrace simplicity in your lives, if you want to start truly appreciating the small stuff, these two uneventful stories may encourage you to make meaningful change.

Redmond Real Salt is unrefined and all-natural and adds 60 trace minerals, deliciously, to everything I add it to.
Plus, guys, salt NEVER goes bad.
But this salt has zero junk added to it, including iodine. So, if you live in a humid climate like I do, it does sometimes clump up.
It’s super easy to just unclump it, but if I want to avoid clumps all together I just add a few grains of salt to my shaker. The salt soaks up any moisture that happens because of humidity.
In my bulk storage, I just place my salt in a loose leaf tea bag to keep it from getting in the salt.

We'll discuss recent FDA announcements about synthetic food dyes & what they REALLY mean... the good, the bad, and all the other things rolling around in my brain today.
First and foremost, we need to be vigilant about food ingredients.
Our conversation today explores the FDA's response to food safety concerns, the impact of synthetic dyes on our health, and some great suggestions for all of us for natural alternatives.
Michelle encourages listeners to make small, manageable changes in their diets and always diligently being aware of Big Food's marketing tactics.
The FDA's recent announcements about synthetic food dyes are significant, but what does it all really mean for the average consumer?
Thankfully, consumer awareness is growing and many folks are more concerned about the safety of food ingredients.
That, combined with the fact that small changes in dietary habits can lead to significantly better health outcomes, and the fact that natural alternatives to food dyes can be used creatively in cooking and baking (we discuss many in this episode), gives us reason to see this week's announcement from the FDA as a win.
But the food industry often prioritizes profit over consumer health and the Delaney Clause, which we dive into in this episode, aims to protect the public from harmful additives but has grave limitations.

Doug Stonebreaker is helping us do exactly that in today's episode. Doug is a life-long rancher and the Director of Supply Chain for 99 Counties--a one-of-its-kind platform that is connecting consumers to quality meats, from small, regenerative family farms in the midwest.
Doug shares his insights on the complexities of ranching, sustainable agriculture, and the challenges of sourcing quality meat. He also highlights the role of 99 Counties in supporting small regenerative farmers and addresses the overwhelming influence of big agriculture on the food supply chain.
We discuss the challenges faced by small farmers and the importance of understanding food labels and certifications. We dig into organic and grass-fed standards, the need for transparency in meat supply, and the evolution of sustainable practices in agriculture.
If you've ever wondered what questions you can (& should!) ask of your meat suppliers, this episode is a must listen!
