The Lazy BookwormHey, how's it going? In another Victober video, I am reviewing Elizabeth Gaskell's, Mary Barton. This is my first Gaskell, and the first book I read for Victober. Mary Barton touches on a number of themes from industrialization to family relationships. One theme it touches on is the issue of the "fallen Woman". This video is all about the "fallen woman" and how it was a preoccupying issue in Victorian society, especially in literature.

Reading-wise, 2022 has been a really good year I've read a ton of books, in different genres and I have discovered some amazing authors. With just over a week before Christmas, I am doing another booktag, possibly my final one for 2022. I'm doing The Evolution of a reader tag, and I hope to share some of my reading journey both before and after I joined booktube.
I was kindly tagged by Katie at books and things @katiejlumsden and the tag was created by Jack at @spreadbookjoy here is their original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is3PF...
The Questions are: 1) What you read: how has your taste in books evolved? 2) How you read: has the format of your reading changed much? 3) How much you read: do you read more/less than previously? When do you read? Has how often you read changed? 4) How has Booktube changed you as a reader? 5) Tag some people!
The people I have tagged are: Kelli @kellireadsalot Lisa @lisainbookland Cathie @thegrimmreader3649 Scott @GunpowderFictionPlot

I'm sorry for the delay in uploading this week, but I'm back with my wrap-up of my November reads. I had a really good month of November in terms of reading and I managed to read a lot of good books. I read an eclectic selection of non-fiction, contemporary fiction, and a few classics but not too many this month.
I'll be back uploading on my usual day (Saturday) with my December TBR - yes I know I'm a tad late.My TBR for 2023 - classics, poetry, non-fiction.The Lazy Bookworm2022-11-26 | Hey, how's it going? It is almost December and that means only one thing (apart from Christmas) and that is it is the end of 2022. With 2023 coming at us like a freight train I thought it was time to seriously think about what I want to read next year. And voila here is the video, I have 3 sections - classics, poetry and non-fiction.
I was inspired to do this by Lisa from Lisa in bookland, here is the link to her video: youtube.com/watch?v=XzwsJiTyEt4All about Ancient Greece - vlog, book reviews. The Lazy Bookworm2022-11-19 | Hey, How's it Going!? So far I've had an interesting November. One of the things I did was go to a museum exhibition about Ancient Greece. In this video I will take you with me to the exhibition, I will also be giving my thoughts on some classic Greek mythology and books about Greek heroes.
I am super excited about this video mainly because it is my first vlog. I've been wanting to do a vlog for some time and I thought the exhibition would be a great opportunity. Apologies for the somewhat shaky footage and my thumb makes an appearance at the beginning.Non-fiction on Booktube tag - Where I discuss non-fiction.The Lazy Bookworm2022-11-12 | Hey, how's it going? In honour of non-fiction November, I am doing the Non-Fiction on Booktube tag. I decided to do this tag because I am currently reading non-fiction and I'm doing a book tube video...so it makes sense that I combine the two. I really enjoyed doing this tag and it has inspired me to read more non-fiction, and in months other than November.
The Questions: 1. How much nonfiction do you read? 2. What kind of nonfiction videos do you make/do you WANT to make on Booktube? 3. What’s your favorite sub-genre of nonfiction? 4. Do you have a favorite nonfiction book? 5. What do you think keeps people from wanting to read more nonfiction? 6. Why do you like nonfiction? 7. What’s a nonfiction book you read because of Booktube? 8. What’s the best nonfiction book you’ve read lately? 9. What are some of your nonfiction reading goals? 10. What’s your advice for incorporating more nonfiction into your reading diet?My Review of R F Kuangs Babel. The Lazy Bookworm2022-11-05 | Hey, how's it going? Today is another Victober video and it is all about poetry! I really love poetry but I have to confess I haven't read much Victorian poetry. For my Victober challenge, I read Christina Rossetti's, Goblin Market. However, in this video I am not going to talk about Rossetti, instead, I'm going to talk about three Victorian poets I had never heard about and I will read one of their poems. I wanted to share these poets with you because it was great to discover new poems and perhaps more importantly new poets.

Everyone needs friends, even writers. Throughout the ages, there have been friendships between writers both famous and unknown. One of those friendships was between two famous Victorian authors - Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins. Dickens and Collins were not only friends they also collaborated on books including the one I am reviewing in this video - The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices. A fun chronicle of a trip Collins and Dickens did in the North West of England. My Erewhon Review - a Victorian Classic Inspired by New Zealand *no spoilersThe Lazy Bookworm2022-10-18 | Hey, how's it going? We are now in the middle of Victober, and I am doing well, reading-wise. I know I had a Victober TBR which I am still trying to adhere to, but I have added some books to read this month. One of these books is Samuel Butler's Erewhon. Published in 1872, and considered to be a Victorian satire and a Utopian novel. I have a special connection to Erewhon because it was inspired by my homeland, New Zealand. This video is about New Zealand and Samuel Butler as well as Erewhon.

On the eve of Victober I thought I'd post my review of George Eliot's Middlemarch. I finally finished this book in August, which I was super pleased about because I started it last year in September so I really wanted to finish. Even though it took me ages to finish it I really enjoyed it. But a warning if you want to read Middlemarch it is a big book in terms of pages, my copy is over 900 pages. This video is my review of Hallie Rubenhold's The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper. Don't worry I won't give any spoilers and my review is not grisly.
We have all heard about the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper, but how much do we know about his victims? I admit I didn't know much I just thought the common narrative was that they were 5 very unlucky prostitutes who met their fate in Whitechapel, London. Reading The Five these women became fully-fledged human beings and I really enjoyed reading their stories and the contexts of their lives. My Jane Austen July #janeaustenjulyThe Lazy Bookworm2022-08-13 | Hey, how's it going? This is part 2 of my July reading wrap up, and it is all about Jane Austen. I admit I'm not the biggest fan of Jane Austen but I decided to put my prejudices aside and actually read her for Jane Austen July. I can't believe it's August already. I am still thinking we've only just left February. In this video, I will show and tell you all about what I want to read in August.
These books are pretty chunky so I'm afraid I might have bitten off more than I can chew with this selection. However, several of these books are unfinished and I decided August is the month to finish them off.All for One and One for All - The 3 Musketeers TagThe Lazy Bookworm2022-07-23 | Hey, How's it going? In this video, I am doing a tag. I felt I hadn't done a tag in ages so I thought I would do one for this video. After searching for a good tag I came across this tag, the 3 Musketeers tag by Beki at Teacup the storyteller. It is a very interesting tag and I really enjoyed doing it.

Is there a person from the past - artists/politicians/simply anyone, you would like to meet? 4. Alexandre Dumas wrote some pretty chunky books. What is the longest and shortest book you´ve read? 5. I don´t think there is a video in which I wouldn´t mention my favourite book – The Three Musketeers. Is there a book you want everyone to know about? It can be your favourite book of all time or some recent read you´d recommend to other people! 6. Is there a film adaptation that you enjoyed more than actual book? (Doesn´t have to be one of Dumas´ books, just any book you´ve read and its film adaptation.) 10. If yes, which one? 12. And finally, tag some friends to do this tag!Jane Austen and Me (#janeaustenjuly)The Lazy Bookworm2022-07-16 | Hey, How's it going? It is July, in fact, it is the middle of July. And this July I have been taking part in Jane Austen July. However, unlike most participants, I have not read a single book by Jane Austen or even fully watched a Jane Austen screen adaption.
However, this July things are gonna change and I'm tackling Austen's most famous work Pride and Prejudice as well as some other Austen-related content. As you will see in this video me doing this is quite a feat because Jane Austen and I have had a difficult relationship. My June Reading Wrap Up (No Spoilers)The Lazy Bookworm2022-07-09 | Hey, how's it going?! I am enjoying the books I'm reading so far in July and I have a few more I want to read this month.
What were the books you read in June and what are your favourites?
**Note: I just remembered I read Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet in June, but I did a brief review of it which I will link at the beginning of the video.A Unique Book Haul (P.S Its not a book)The Lazy Bookworm2022-07-05 | Hey, how's it going?! It's me, Rebecca and in this video, I am doing a somewhat different book haul. This book haul is not actually books, rather it is a set of postcards from Carolyn Marie reads' Etsy shop. They are beautiful postcards and I hope you enjoy watching me (rather indelicately) unwrap and see them for the first time.
If you want to check out Carolyn's postcards for yourself, her Etsy is linked below. Just a warning her postcards sell fast, so if you see one you like you better get in quick. I've missed out a couple of times. etsy.com/shop/CarolynMarieReadsAnother book haul - yes I need help! The Lazy Bookworm2022-07-02 | Hey, how's it going? Want to get into classic but afraid to? Well, you have come to the right place. This video is a brief guide to getting into classic literature. I will give you a few tips to dip your toe into the very (intimidating) world of classical literature or as I put it in the video "classics".
Many other YouTubers have also made videos introducing the world of classics, one of my favourites is from CarolynMarieReads who not only did an introduction video to classics but also classic Russian literature. If you are human and you read, then you have been on a reading journey. And the great thing is, reading journies are as varied as people. In this video, I am doing a sit-down and chat video about my reading journey from when I was a kid until today.
In this video, I am also celebrating one month on Booktube. I had wanted to start my own channel and create content for ages, but never had the courage to do so. I am. so happy I just leapt in and started doing it. I just want to say thank you everyone who has been so supportive and welcoming :)My Top 5 English and American novels (Sorry I turn super dark at the end)The Lazy Bookworm2022-06-18 | What are your top 5 English novels or your top 5 American novels? Can you list only 5? Well, in this video I will give my top 5 English and American novels. However, with my top 5 American novels, I have given myself an important restriction - they can only be books from the 20th century.
An important note: Sorry for the quality, I had issues with my camera today and sorry for me turning super dark at the end, even though I filmed it in the afternoon the sun totally disappeared and the sky turned black and it started raining.
This video was inspired by the popular Top 5 English novels tag started by Eric Karl Anderson and Sarah from Hardcover hearts a few months ago. Here is a link to their video: youtube.com/watch?v=i34skN7B1xU&t=33s
I also got inspiration from Greg from Another Bibliophile Reads who put his own spin on this tag by doing his Top 5 American Novels, which is linked below: youtube.com/watch?v=Qw1fhtz3wIc&t=705sRilkes Letters to a Young Poet (Becks Reviews)The Lazy Bookworm2022-06-14 | I have been wanting to read Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet for years now, and this year I finally did!
