QFS Aviation 2023-03-19 | Air Canada's retrofitted A330s is the best way to fly between Florida and Canada. Due to the high capacity needed between Montreal and Fort Lauderdale during the winter months, the A330 became the perfect jet to fly the vacationers.

QFS Aviation 2023-03-09 | Saga Class on Icelandair is a great low-cost alternative to transatlantic business class; granted a quick stopover at the small island nation.

Last year I flew back home from Greenland via Copenhagen and Reykjavik on Air Greenland and Icelandair. I had previously flown in Icelandair's Saga Business Class in 2020 and had a great experience, so I expected the same quality of service and comfort as last time. The product is consistently great with amazing food, exceptional space, and an enthusiastic crew: the 3 most important traits in my eyes.

Lufthansa CityLine - CRJ 900 - Business Class - Frankfurt (FRA) to Geneva (GVA) | FLIGHT REVIEW

QFS Aviation 2023-03-01 | Lufthansa's CityLine operates a dense European Regional network from Lufthansa's Frankfurt and Munich hubs. The subsidiary was established in 1992 and currently has a fleet of 50 aircraft and a workforce of 2,300 employees. CityLine has destinations in 22 countries across Europe.

I spent my morning relaxing in Frankfurt Airport's Panorama Lounge, accessible by my business class ticket which cost $100 to upgrade. Although the flight time to Geneva was only 45 minutes, the crew managed to squeeze in a full meal service along with drinks and snacks!

QFS Aviation 2023-02-14 | Air Canada retired it’s A319 fleet back in 2020, but two aircraft were quietly brought back into the fleet for reasons nobody is aware of. The airline has relied on its Airbus A320 Family aircraft to serve domestic and international routes for decades, but in 2023 those aircraft are tired and worn out. It’s only a matter of time before they’re completely phased out in favor of the A220 & 737 MAX.

I sat in Business Class and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It included a hot towel and lunch service! Air Canada usually excels at it’s onboard food!

JetBlue - A321 - Business Class - New York (JFK) to Seattle (SEA) | TRIP REPORT

QFS Aviation 2023-02-06 | JetBlue's Mint Business Class product is America's best and often the most affordable!

JetBlue was founded in 1999 and revolutionized passenger comfort by offering low-cost travel, but also having amenities such as inflight entertainment screens at every seat and Sirius XM satellite radio. In 2014, JetBlue took a gamble and changed its business model from a single-class airline (all Economy) by introducing a lie-flat premium transcontinental service on its A321s. The cabin is configured with 5 rows of staggered 2-2 and 1-1 (more private "Mint Suite"). The price tag is usually hundreds of dollars less than competing airlines, even though those carriers usually have a worse product.

My flight to Seattle only cost $603 USD, even though I booked it a week out when prices usually skyrocket. I had a great crew on my flight who took great pride in making the Mint experience as good as it could get!

Alaska Airlines - Dash 8 Q400 - Seattle (SEA) to Wenatchee (EAT) | TRIP REPORT

QFS Aviation 2023-01-31 | As Alaska Airlines sends its beloved fleet of Dash 8-Q400s into retirement, I had to get one last ride on one! These turboprop regional aircraft are operated by Alaska Air's regional subsidiary Horizon Air, which is replacing the Q400 with Embraer E175s.

Back in the day, Horizon Air was its own separate brand until the two airlines made the decision to phase that brand out in favor of the quickly expanding mainline Alaska Airlines. One of my all-time favorite corporate logos is the Native-looking Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air script that was around until 2016 when the airline reinvented itself as a trendy alternative to traditional airlines. Alaska Air ditched that native look in favor of a sleek blue logo that lacks much of the character the old one had.

American Airlines - 777 200ER - Business Class - Miami (MIA) to New York (JFK) | TRIP REPORT

QFS Aviation 2023-01-23 | American's Flagship Business Class is one of the best premium seats in our skies! I was lucky enough to catch it on a repositioning flight from Miami to New York. This flight was sold as "Domestic First Class" and the soft product (meals, amenities) represented that.

American Airlines is the largest airline in the world when measured by fleet size, scheduled passengers carried, and revenue passenger mile. They currently operate over 900 mainline aircraft across 350 destinations. I used to love flying with them until they merged with US Airways about a decade ago. Since then I've noticed a drop in quality as they retained much of US Airways administration and corporate structure. Thankfully one of the areas that remained great is the First/Business class!

The 777 has been a staple in American's long-haul fleet for over two decades, and the fleet of 67 777-200ER/300ERs will begin to get retrofitted for the new Flagship Suite product, with older aircraft getting replaced for the 787-9.

QFS Aviation 2022-12-13 | Play is Iceland's newest low-cost airline attempting to capitalize on the small island country's geographoc location between North America and Europe. The airline was founded in 2019 and operates a small fleet of Airbus A320neo & A321neo aircraft.

Iceland has a history of low-cost carrier's succeeding and failing, with its biggest success being the flag carrier Icelandair which operates hundreds of flights a week transiting millions of passengers a year between or to the island. Stopover packages are popular for travelers young and old on a budget to visit Reykjavik and its surrounding area for a couple of days before continuing on to their intended destination. WOW Air was an ultra-low-cost carrier that operated between 2012 and 2019 that had been successful and annually delivered over one fourth of all visitors to Iceland. The airline's demise was caused by poor decisions and an over-expansion, and much of WOW's executives are now working for Play.

Air Canada is the flag carrier and the largest airline in Canada by the size and passengers carried. The airline has hubs in Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, along with focus cities in Halifax and Ottawa. Regional feeder flights for Air Canada are flown on aircraft branded as Air Canada Express (previously Air Canada Jazz until they decided to retire the Jazz brand).

The E175's 12 Business Class seats are in a comfortable 2-1 configuration. I wish more airlines would use cloth/plush seats instead of leather because it can make or break a seat.

Canadian North Airlines - 737 300 - Yellowknife (YZF) to Edmonton (YEG) | TRIP REPORT

QFS Aviation 2022-11-25 | Canadian North Airlines is an Inuit-owned airline flying up in Canada's Northwest Territories and Nunavut, connecting some of the country's most remote towns to the world. Its merger with First Air in 2019 established the combined fleet as one of Canada's largest airlines. Ticket prices are known to be outrageous, and in a way, the airline has a monopoly on Arctic transportation because most towns aren't accessible by road, rail, or even boat. If you want to visit or leave these Northern towns, you must fly.

I was supposed to fly on the 737-200 Combi (the aircraft is half cargo pallets, half passenger seats), but mechanical issues saw the flight downgrade to an ATR 42 and a 7-hour delay. I'll return to Yellowknife in a couple of months to give it another crack!

Yellowknife is the capital and largest city in the Northwest Territories with a population of 20,000 residents. Industry includes diamond mining, transportation, northern lights tourism, and communications. The airport is a hub for Canadian North along with Adlair Aviation, Air Tindi, Buffalo Airways, Northwestern Air, North-Wright Airways, and Summit Air. Destinations for Canadian North from Yellowknife are Cambridge Bay, Edmonton, Fort Simpson, Gjoa Haven, Hay River, Inuvik, Iqaluit, Kugaaruk, Kugluktuk, Norman Wells, Rankin Inlet, Taloyoak, and Ulukhaktok.

I enjoyed the actual onboard product during the flight! They served a complimentary meal and drinks (included in all fares) and the crew members are always extremely nice!

Air Greenland - A330 200 - Economy - Kangerlussuaq (SFJ) to Copenhagen (CPH) | TRIP REPORT

QFS Aviation 2022-07-08 | Air Greenland is the flag carrier airline of Greenland owned by the Greenlandic Government. The airline is over 60 years old and currently has a fleet of 32 aircraft including a single A330 used for transatlantic and United States military charter flights. Kangerlussuaq is home to just 508 people, but it acts as a feeder airport to smaller towns that don't have long runways. Flights to heliports in the remote settlements are operated on contract with the government of Greenland.

The airline is a unique way to visit the Arctic, and if you're looking for an adventure I highly suggest traveling North instead of South on your next vacation. Also as of December 2022 the Air Greenland A330neo has entered its fleet!

QFS Aviation 2022-06-14 | In January, I visited Ukraine to explore the Kyiv Oblast region; Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the abandoned city of Pripyat, and downtown Kyiv. The easiest way for me to return home to America was with Air France via Paris CDG. The business class product you'll find on Air France's domestic aircraft might be a let-down if you're not familiar with the disappointing standard that is intra-Europe flights. The only major pro compared to US airlines is the meal they almost always serve, even on super quick flights!

Avelo Airlines (formerly Casino Express Airlines, then Xtra Airways) is an American ultra-low-cost carrier based out of Burbank, CA. Looking for an Eastern base, they fixated on New Haven, CT, a coastal city on the Long Island Sound lacking passenger air service since American Airlines left Tweed Airport earlier this fall.

QFS Aviation 2021-03-26 | Boutique Air is a commuter airline that operates scheduled passenger services subsidized under the Essential Air Service (EAS) program. The EAS program was put into place to guarantee that small communities maintain a minimal level of scheduled air service, and Boutique collects a subsidy serving small towns. In order for Sacramento-Los Angeles to qualify for the subsidy, our flight had a quick stopover in Merced, CA, one of the 159 towns listed on the list for subsidies.

Boutique operates the second-largest PC-12 fleet in the United States with 26 aircraft, and they advertise a "private" jet-like onboard experience.

FINAL FLIGHT | Delta Airlines - Boeing 777 200 - New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX)

QFS Aviation 2020-11-06 | On October 31, I flew on Delta's 777 retirement flight. The ride from New York to Los Angeles was the last passenger/revenue flight for their entire fleet. Although I was seated in an aisle, I got to enjoy the celebration just as much as those in a window seat.

Delta had originally never planned to retire the 777 so soon, but due to the current pandemic, the airline wanted to reshape its heavy aircraft. Delta’s fleet of 18 777 was the backbone for their super long haul flights (Africa, Asia, Australia).

QFS Aviation 2020-10-28 | Alaska's E175s are flown on many regional routes within the Pacific West Coast and the Big Sky region. The fleet operated by Horizon Air and regional contract airline SkyWest.

The onboard experience I had was excellent for a regional aircraft. The fact that I could sit in a window seat with direct aisle access was a huge plus. We were lucky enough to have flown on Alaska's "Honoring Those Who Serve" livery, designed in tribute to military veterans and soldiers.

JetBlues last flight out of Long Beach

QFS Aviation 2020-10-20 | JetBlue's time at Long Beach Airport has sadly come to an end. After serving the airport for almost 20 years, they elected to move their focus city over to LAX.

JetBlue Airways arrived at Long Beach a year after it commenced operations. The airport was designed to act as an alternative to flying into LAX, and throughout their time here it did just that. Millions of passengers would fly through LGB annually.

It was a sad day for many crewmembers, ground workers, and JetBlue fans, but the farewell was strong. The captain gave amazing speeches, JetBlue gave away 2 free round-trip tickets, and to top it off one of the flight attendants sang an amaznig 'JetBlue' cover of Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"!

QFS Aviation 2020-09-25 | Spirit Airlines offers a premium product named the "Big Front Seat" that is bookable for a small fee. I believe it offers amazing value for the price I paid, as it's 10x more comfortable than Spirit's coach seats. Of course, Spirit is an ultra-low-cost carrier, so the seat has no extra onboard perks, although their extensive menu is somewhat affordable.

QFS Aviation 2020-09-21 | Delta's 767 fleet is currently being retrofitted with their new "Delta One" product, but many still have their old lie-flat first-class seats, including the aircraft I took for this flight.

I love that Delta is sending widebody aircraft on domestic routes such as Atlanta to Boston, especially with their great premium product. The price is also relatively the same as the standard A321/737 you'll find on this route.
