1996 Behind The Making of Vince Tony Guarascio 2025-07-02 | So back in 96, we did a clay animation promoting The Mariners on Kiro TV. Derik Loso and I came up with this idea to make it appear like the camera was on a crane, "flying" upward to reveal the logo on the pitching mound. In order to do this we had to make a "carriage" device that we could animate as well as the clay character. As the character was doing his thing one frame at a time, the table that he was on was also moved one frame at a time away from the fixed camera and tilting at the same time. Derik built the carriage device and had the moves all mapped out on paper. As I animated the character, Derik animated the table. As with all of my animations, there was no budget or adequate time to pull this off. We couldnt afford to do this with Motion Control, so we did it old school. We did our best, and had a blast doing it!
BehindFurskins condensed1985 Tony Guarascio 2025-01-29 | So this is a behind the scenes of a commercial we did for JC Penney in 1985. They were selling these designer stuffed bears called "Furskins". I made a general store for them and a clay forest and general store set, as well as turning one of them into a puppet for some of the close up work. We all had a blast doing this one.

About 10 years before those cool Chevron commercials with their talking cars.I had totally forgot that we shot behind the scenes footage of this project in progress. We're talkin' long, brutal hours doing old school stop motion, without the luxury of a big budget or computer technology. Or a chair that didn't squeak! I just found the raw video and put this together to remind me how brutal, but fun, it was, back in the late 80s, when I had the patience to do something like this! Oh, and by the way, we had the car in three different scenarios, but I couldnt find the tape of the version we're working on here. I added my favorite version at the end.

We would be embarrassed at the time, but looking back, he was usually right, and damn funny about it. More than once, usually for breakfast, we would be sitting there waiting to order, and watch as other people would sit down, order, eat, and leave. He understood being busy, and was sympathetic for a while, but there was a line, and once they crossed it, he let his thoughts be known.

The Torchlight Parade, and my true favorite, The Hydro Races. For me, it was a week long setup at Lake Washington, with old and new friends ending with 9 hours of live coverage, immediately followed by 6 or 7 hours of teardown. It was always a long fun week and the day of the big show was no less than a 19 hour work day.

The Mayors Desk Tony Guarascio 2020-09-22 | So, I got my foot in the door at Kiro tv by helping build the set for the revamped JP Patches Show. We went live before the set was finished, so they made a weeklong bit out of it. This was when we introduced the Mayors desk to the set. We designed and built the desk to disassemble easily, it had pop out panels revealing secret compartments, and the top tilted upward as an easel for displaying books or whatever to the camera. Of course, this video doesnt show ANY of that, but it was cool, I tell ya! This was recorded off the air, so sorry for the quality.

After they took the Clown off the air, there was such an uproar from fans that Kiro brought him back. This time in a new set. The Mayor of Pugetopolis. Working on this set is what got me into the tv business, thanks to my buddy, Warren "Mongo" Berry. He was a floor director at the time, and brought me in to help. I worked at Kiro for 32 years, starting in 1980.This show was recorded off air so the quality isnt great, but could very well be the only video evidence of the Mayor set. I have bits and pieces from that first week.

Nightmare bumpers Tony Guarascio 2020-09-21 | Much like the JP Patches Show, Nightmare Theatre was mostly unscripted, Joe Towey (the director of the JP Patches Show) as The Count, would just kind of free flow it. Here's a series of takes we did for a Halloween Special. Early 80s. Side note: At the beginning, theres a scene of an old house on a hill with the camera zooming into The Count's cave. I made the model house and placed it upon a diorama that Towey had made years ago depicting the cliffs of Normandy. Towey liked WW2 stuff, and just happened to have this diorama that he made, just sitting at home. So we combined our models for the open of the show!
