I play this piece 'fast' because I think it should be in Tempo ordinario! Only in the last bars the tempo is going to Adagio.
The choral melody is much more clear and singable. The 'heartbeat' rythm in the lefthand is not calm, it's agitated, like for somebody in distress. ("weil ich hier bin umfangen mit Trübsal und Elend.")

Demonstration of the 1923 Adema-organ - Cathedral of St. Bavo Haarlem

Erik Jan Eradus 2025-01-16 | The 1923 Adema-organ was originally built for the church of St. Willibrord in Amsterdam. It was the idea that this instrument would become the largest in Holland. In 1923 only 35 stops were ready. In 1926 the prospect pipes arrived and between 1944 and 1949 the organ was completed.
In Amsterdam the 4th Manual was connected to the choirorgan.
In 1966 St. Willibrord closed down and was demolished in 1970.
Luckily the organ found a new home in the Cathedral of St. Bavo in Haarlem. The Cathedral never had an organ at the west end before.
The Adema-organ was placed in 1971. In 1978 the organ was extended with a new 4th manual and in 1996 a 32' reed arrived on the pedal.
Between 2017 and 2022 the organ was restored and reconstructed to the original specification (Man. I, II, III and Pedal) by Adema's Kerkorgelbouw. Manual IV will be restored in the coming years.

Celui qui Seignerie au firmament,
