So here it is, Three years now that this incarnation of my weekly live streams have been going on.
There was a previous version of that, but not called that, and not as regular, as focused, and not as good sounding,
I'm sure some of you regret the good old days from prior to that, but there's no way I could have gone on with this at such a pace and such high standards (!) if not for the support and help from the community we have here.
I might do a little something this Friday, if I come up with a fun competition idea, but the best I can do is probably have an as good as possible stream as possible, and I am indeed quite excited with the selection I have to share. I started this channel just a little over 5 years ago now. At first, I was doing regular VC videos, more or less. But very early on, I chose to play music as well, even if everyone told me back then that "you cannot do it", that youtube would block you and cancel your channel.
At first, I thought I would just try and see what happens. Nothing serious happened.
Sure, I got a few videos blocked, a few that I had to edit some copyrighted songs out, and of course, none of these videos can be monetized. So, yes, I was not going to get rich or referenced, doing that. So I guess that was not my goal there, but as I started to do this on a regular schedule, "sacrificing" my Friday evenings, I saw a video about shoe-gaze that implemented this Kofi thing, so that you could support the channel. I decided to try this out, as a sort of social experiment, and about three years ago, this decision changed everything.
With the ongoing support of some dedicated viewers, I could increase the quality of sound gradually, to the point where we are now, and most importantly, afford digging deeper in the unheralded rabbit holes I've always been fond of, and share knowledge almost immediately. The Tumult festival also is an unexpected result of this, as it allowed me to reconnect with artists from a more journalistic position, but my own one.
Next week will mark the exact 3rd anniversary of the current format, but tonight should be a good exemple of where this leads us already, with some pretty cool new arrivals, and some new discoveries. See you this Friday!

It still feels like that time of the year when everything slows down, vinyl record wise. It may be just a feeling, but spectacular things seem to be around the corner. And while I say that, I did a lazy visit of the local record stores in between two administrative shores, and was rewarded with a cheapn discovery, and the most unexpected grail. These past few weeks have seen a lot of older purchases find their way onto the turntable. Is it that time of the year, when everything slows down? It might be, although I've been listening to an absurd amount of releases online, past present and future. Does listening to upcoming releases mean we can see into the future? I remember how in the late 90ies, we were a bunch of people owning a CDR demo version of Prefuse 73's first album, that was to be released a year and a half later, on Warp records, if not even later. We all knew this was a game changer, but the game had not changed yet. Today I listened to an extraordinary ambient LP, that kind of makes me already live somewhere forward, until it gets released in October. I also listened to a 1977 recording of sanza playing.
They tell us time is relative, and each one of these streams is an exemple of that.

These past few months, selecting records for this weekly stream has been fairly easy, as I just had to go through the latest purchases, finds and presents, only slightly complementing this with some shelves' picks. This week, as the new arrivals somewhat slowed down - waiting for shippments and some collections - I have to rely on the later option, which always makes me feel a little insecure. You see, I know my records pretty well, and what has been in the collection has already been shared, explained, etc. But I have to remind myself that this adventure started 35 years ago, and that hte vast majority of my older than 5 years old records still might be worth sharing again.

Now deep into the summer, a new pace settles, even if the world and chaos refuses to stop. The other day, I played a record that I described as one that stops time. Maybe that is what we seek in music, maybe we use music as a way to control reality for a little while. But you know very well that this stream is not about control, quite the opposite. The only control here is the somewhat whimsicla choice of records I put on the turntable. And this week, quite a few new major releases for 2025, an old grail, and the ongoing exploration of the shelves & recent finds. So I guess most of us now are in summer vacation mode. Maybe this will influence the direction of this stream, maybe the sun will set upon the shelves of the vinyl record shed, maybe I'll only play Italo Disco... Or maybe we'll go with the flow, and you can tell me where I should go, and I'll end up playing Miami Bass for an hour, since that's what everyone seem to want, according to my incredible room reading skills. Since I started this series, I've tried - and mostly succeeded - to hold myself to a weekly schedule. The few times I had to skip a week always made me feel indebted to you all, and such was the last one. Yes, as you probably all already know, I was in the middle of the annual music festival I curate and produce with my friends Nils and Mats. Some of you were - hopefully - lucky enough to attend, as I dare say it was a unmitigated artistic success, a wonderful human experience, and a great inspiration altogether. As expected, it was hard and difficult work, to the very last second and beyond, and I find myself in an altered state, both physical, and emotional. But this is still hopefully just the start of something even greater, and this new stream will keep showing a path, with an abundance of new directions, both from the past, present, and even near future.
So, expect the very best, the very unexpected, the obscure and the light, with a big thank you for your ongoing support!

Last stream before the Tumult Music Festival break. I will try to do a little spontaneous stream during the festivities, but I can't promise anything, as I probably will be running around all day(s).

Two weeks away from Tumult Festival - instagram.com/tumult.kultur - and still, I found some time and energy to dig for records, and I guess I might follow the flies...
Because yes, musical heroes leave us left and right, these past few day. It's sad, and forces us to self reflect on our own finality. But let's rather think of it as paths, timely bifurcations, where the past, present and future meet, and offers us a more relative take on time than our linear lives usually provide. And I already know this new session will have its own little micro universes, that do not need to end when the song finishes.

As I write these words, I have a little vinyl records digging expedition lined up before the livestream. So I am clueless as to what will drive me this time around. Last week, the Coffin Mulch / Mick Harris collab was an ace in the sleeve, but will each installment be like that? Quite a lot of you do give me a lot of energy, with tips, words of encouragement, challenges, and I do remember when I was doing my radio show in Paris - Helter Skelter - that I already had that drive of always doing at least as good as the week prior. Who was the judge of that? Well, mostly me, and I thank you for having taken over that task, a much more virtuous pattern ^^
And as we now have eaten a good chunk of the year, I must say it's been a privilege to investigate such exciting musical times with you lot. I know I'm not too keen on public appraisals, but what a splendid musical year, so far!

Last week's stream was rather fun, with a few surprises, even for myself - the "rediscovery" of Ganger, and the Ptaki/Robert Ashley megamix ^^ - but you may have noticed, I'm always more excited in advance when I have new arrivals, and expecialy when it is new releases that I think are worth sharing.

The other day, I was thinking about the idea of listening to music becoming a political act. Art has often been the place where you can find political commentary, in authoritarian societies. Back in the 1600's, the most effective critique of the golden king was found in the comedies of Molière. When words can now get you fired, canceled, or killed, how will the censors tackle instrumental music? The tories tried to regulate the audience of repetitive music, Turkey and Belarus are codifying what BPM range is tolerated, and so on. So the question as to how long will we enjoy a true diversity in music is a valid one, a goal worth fighting for, considering instrumental music might be one of the last places - with fine arts - where disruptive messages can be embeded in. Maybe this is a little dramatic, as of today, but the tomorrows are built now. So we'll see how this week's stream tackles that topic, and you are welcome to share your thoughts through the live chat, or the comments.

Last week was the milestone stream, when I passed 3000 suscribers. Does that change anything? Maybe, but not really in any way I can really feel. Maybe the channel gets slightly better referenced. But no one really cares about that, here. No regular stream last week, as the Den Bosch Mega Record fair journey was full on. Den Bosch Mega Record Fair with Stunty and Steve Davis - Debrief & Chat after 2 days!

Great friend and supporter of the stream Steve Davis & I just spent two days in Den Bosch, the world's biggest record fair. The festivities officially opens tomorrow, Saturday, but it actually started yesterday for us!
We first attended a stealth pre-fair "party" at a hotel where a lot of dealers bring crates in the lobby, before vistiting a local private collector and record label owner. This involved a lot of drinking, and fun negotiations, and having us spend the shortest of nights, since we decided to arrive at the fair's exclusive dealer's day at 6 AM earlier this morning.
We did it, it was pain, love, fight, adrenaline, tons of emotions, and we just left the place after 11 hours of digging, battered...
So we thought we'd have a fun chat with you all, talking about the experience, and showing some of the finds.

I'm coming off a pretty bad case of stomach bug, which derailed most of this week, but I'm back on my feet enough to do this. So this will be the second instalement of a different kind of stream I tried last year. Wow.
This will be the third time I celebrated my birthday with our little community, here. It is quite something, isn't it? I now know some of you pretty intimately, I've met some of you, sourced records thanks to you, shared some fun and emotional moments. And above all of this, music, records, that's what starts the gathering, before all the rest. And this week, I don't know if it already feels like a birthday, but kick-ass new records and charming older ones have found their way to the birthday shelves, but I'll try to go real deep into the collection, find some unheralded killer gem(s) to top it all, before a sort of break in the beginning of April, probably.

Snow is back, I'm happy I didn't put winter clothes away yet. Still, I went to the record shops, and started preparation for the Den Bosch record Fair in just about a month from now. And last week's stream was a big reminder of how this little community of ours' support has been crucial for these weekly journeys. If I was doing this in a vaccum, this would be irrational, and maybe I would still do some of it anyways. But since this became more than just a fun way to share music, perspectives and ambition has changed a little, for the best, I hope. Next week will be my birthday, and I don't yet know if I will stream, so let's enjoy this week's installment, and there'll be a lot to enjoy, in quite a few directions ^^

My disposition can vastly vary, ahead of those weekly streaming. The preceding days and hours are filled with self questioning about what I will have to offer, if there is something in current affairs I want to address, and most often, a sort of uncertainty takes over when I didn't add anything new to the record shed shelves. The current low temperatures can also be a factor ^^ (the blue tits are already amazingly back, though!)
And yet, last week's installment was most satisfying, while for the first time since I started, I only had a couple of new additions to share.
This week is a whole different affair, as I don't remember ever having that many new finds, digs, acquisitions on the table. So I don't need to tell you how excited I am about this week's stream, you'll hopefully be the happy judge of that!

What a rough week for the world, huh? As the state of current affairs is taking its toll on all of us, I'll try to direct this Friday's stream into a building up morale up one. I don't know how that will go exactly, and it will still be partly improvised, but I think I need this, so maybe you do too?

to imagine how that makes us feel.
Perhaps it was insensitive to ask

other jobs, but we really need an estimate.

The news isn’t all bad. Even with
increased co-pays and deductibles,
our health plan is a hit, especially for those
with anxiety, depression and insomnia.
Although we can’t eliminate long waits
when contacting HR, you can now turn off
the music while on hold. Widespread raises
are impossible, but we’ve found funds
for better toilet paper, ice cream once a month.
In the coming weeks, a new task force
will form to brainstorm future questionnaires
as well as cost-effective ways to ease—
if not eradicate—your pain. (Though
we’re aware of some survey fatigue,

I tend to put a lot of heart in those streams, and today is supposed to be all abut that very specific organ. As my mum recently suffered a heart attack and had to be updated with a pacemaker, the specifics of the heart's function have recently been on my mind, triggering an unexpected thought process. I don't know how that will translate in this stream and further, but I'm sure the most recent picks will find a way to make sense out of it, through sheer empathy towards those thoughts

As I'm cureently right in the middle of the process of curating and booking the next edition of the Tumult Music Festival (instagram.com/tumult.kultur), it strikes me that more than some of what I'm doing here is en extension of the same project. And this week is a testimony to this, as along the "regular" new finds and finds of new, the contacts with the artists obviously reveal upcoming or older releases, while we chat. I have a hard rule of never purchasing anything less than VG+ in graded condition, but I found a case that made me bend the rule, and it wasn't even cheap. Isn't it incredible how things can change in the span of a week? From the intimate to the global, that 4th week of January 2025 presents us with quite a few new challenges for the forseeable future, with an additionnal little "gift" from life, and a failing Roman heart. This means time flew by at a disturbing accelerated pace - I feel we're still on Tuesday, barely even so. And yet, new musical questions and quests manifested themselves, offering their welcomed share of potential, which will be shared in the usual manner, just maybe slightly shorter so than usual. Live to see, listen to live.

Where is time going?? This is my current state of mind, as all the current new musical rabbit holes I'm knee deep in are taking a toll on everything. And yet, this week's stream will provide tons of new paths, both from the past and from today, hopefully all timeless. A few heavy quests came to a happy end, with a lot of Jazz, Ethnomusicology, and Outsider/avant garde time capsules, both on the cheap, and the very much less so. I'm genuinely pre-stoked about this one, so I hope we will be a party ^^
Edit : So this turned out to be a sort of stealth David Lynch homage, in spirit, as nothing was prepared that way, it's a dark zeitgeist. And we had a little visit from "Bob", at the very end...

Still early in the year, still in the holidays aftermath, so this stream will probably mostly be about the shelves. Last week's attendance and support really gave me energy, when I need it the most, as the cold settles here in my summer studio and its crappy isolation. Yes, my fingers and feet might turn blue, but we'll find the way. If I still have no idea what 2025's digging will be like, I nevertheless already had some unbelievable and unexpected finds, that I now need to budget and get over here, so we're off to a good start, if everything pans out. So until then, the past will be investigated, rejoiced and discussed, be here!

This christmas season has so far been pretty strange for me.
I'm still going through the many suggestions of last week, and preparing a massive mailing, so bear with me. But no snow over here, a sort of amorpheous mood, a stillnes, as if approaching 2025 was giving me an unfamiliar gut feeling...

Is this really the third Christmas stream we're having on this channel?! This past year was as confusing as usual, within our regular investigations of the unheralded treasures of music on wax being one of the few saving graces of a increasingly volatile world to our mental health. The new shelves hdid their job, with a massive influx of new and old finds and rabbit holes, we all connected even more, and today will be a celebration of that : Fun will again be had, while I try to not freeze to death from frem very real winter season, as there will be a few games and X-mas giveaways to you, confused people, vinyl records of my choice, according to the personnal taste of the winners. Getting closer to Christmas - I'll try to do something special for that - and this past week was again filled with gifts of all trade, including a couple of heavy grails that I would never have believed l would find this year 365 days ago, and I'm so excited to be able to share and discuss those tonight, but no more than some of the brand new releases I also gathered this week. Again, we should cover a lot of bases, and you should find quite a few Santa wishes for yourself. Busy week at SEF (the Stunty Expeditionary Force), with a pretty unusual find, a band /record that totally floored me, that I had completely overlooked, which I feel I should not have! That opened up a pretty interesting new rabbit hole - even if I feel I started with their most titillating offering - that made me think about music perception in a somewhat new way.
To sum it up, I am excited, and as Den Bosch is now definitly in the rear mirror, this week's finds confirm we're not ging to fall asleep, even if the stream might be starting late for some, and the nights only are getting longer.

Sometimes I wish I didn't think in words
and that instead for each thought I thought I drew upon an image,
and that I was able to organize each image in a linear way that would be like sort of like reading
and that instead of trying to describe the edges around something
I could just think the color around the edges of the image to be darker,
that the detail on the image could become more or less detailed depending
on how much clarity I believe I needed to disclose at the time
For instance, instead of saying love, I could just think watermelon
I could just think of a watermelon cut in half, lying open on a picnic table
The inside would be just as moist as it was pink
I could picture cutting up pieces and giving them out to my friends.
It wouldn't have to be sunny
It wouldn't have to be anything else then just that
It would really simplify my walk home at night,
where every thought I think is some contrived line I repeat over and over to myself
Words are always just replaced with new ones
The pictures would never need to know otherwise

I lost my home keys 10 days ago or so, first time since I was a teen. What a weird feeling, as your home is a reflection of yourself, I would normaly be very anxious about it, but somehow, I've decided that everything will turn out just fine, unlike my final quest for Hermann Nitsch, hahaha.

So, I owe everyone who turned up last week an appology. WHat should have been one of my most exciting streams turned out to be something the state of Texas seem averse to. This really bummed me out, as it was such a tiny little silly thing that prevented the stream to be held normaly.
The silver lining is that this week's real return should be even stronger, considering one more week added even more unusal flavors to the DJ bag. I will need it, since we entered that time of the year whe you might see fogging from the mouth, dreading the snow outside the studio. But we all die someday, don't we? Again, I can't outline how great the Den Bosch record fair was, and how happy I am with the hunt, lots of jazz, avant garde, post punk, global, etc, and the wonderfull meetings...
So I hope to see most of you this Friday, before resuming to your regular schedule, filled with new musical perspectives.

What a good week! In a year full of challenges, those special time capsules of serenity are to be cherished, especially when they come with such a cool soundtrack as this week's. Not a crazy amount of new finds and arrivals, but I nevertheless feel infused with musical joy, partly thanks to a little grail of mine finally landing my turntable. I guess there also is a lot of excitment building up for the world's biggest record fair in the Netherlands, in a mere two weeks ^^ I hope my budget will be competitive against frustration, and stay tuned for an upcoming little stream meant to help steer the adventure in the right direction ^^

I'm going to try to do this straight m youtube this Friday, to test if quality is different. The quality of the music will be the same, as good or as bad as usual, depending on your mileage. Some cool new records this week, probably a few deep journeys outside the the ole western world. And hopefully a bunch of surprises for me as well. I guess I'll do the talking during the stream ^^

I thought we had a good stream last week. and yet, the world seems even shittier and dangerous. Obviously, I don't expect any of this we're having here to impact the affairs of the world in any noticeable fashion. But I do hope we can all feel a little better, more courageous, more keen to question the questionable and the status quo. I have no metrics to evaluate any of this, and I do feel the weight of the world, of people, heavier than usual. And yet, I do have a bunch of exceptional new finds to share, and compliment the ever providing shelves. Hyperbole? Self-therapy? You be the judge of that, but I'm confident you'll agree the wolrd of music once again takes us by surprise.
I hope you are all doing as fine as you can, and that we'll do even a little better for 2-3 hours.

One of these weeks when everything feels pointless and infuriating. How can we even care about music and records? All of this happening far and close to us makes me feel quite desperate, and angry, and I'm probably not alone. Can my little friday stream bring any comfort, or is it just as pointless as anything right now? What do you do when you feel helpless? This is not just a rhetorical question, but outside of your valued answers, having studied and worked in politics, I've long realized that the times of telling people what and how to think are long over, Brian Eno didn't invent anything with his oblique strategies. So this Friday, I'll try to implement my own brand of oblique strategies, and we'll see how it goes, how we can find courage to say out loud what the powers that be do not want to hear, we'll resort once again to art, good ole art, the only political tool accessible to the powerless. Exposing ourselves to new points of views, even questioning those, that's the begining of freedom.
