3-minute meditation: A slow look at Hobbemas Dutch landscape | National Gallery The National Gallery 2024-01-02 | Start the new year with a mindful look at Hobbema's 'Avenue at Middelharnis', guided by mindfulness practitioner by Lucia van der Drift. The composition of this painting was a powerful influence on later artists. It was admired by Van Gogh, who emulated its effects in several paintings after he first saw it in the National Gallery in 1884, and it probably also inspired Camille Pissarro’s 'The Avenue, Sydenham'. They have worked collaboratively with Dr Francesca Whitlum-Cooper at the National Gallery on the research, alongside Madeleine Le Cesne. Workshops were run as part of the National Gallery’s NGX digital innovation programme. With thanks to the National Portrait Gallery for lending their rooms for filming.

Nalini Malani: My Reality is Different | National Gallery The National Gallery 2023-04-27 | Artist Nalini Malani talks about how paintings in the National Gallery and Bath’s Holburne Museum inspired her show, 'My Reality is Different'.25 striking new animations, hand-drawn using an iPad, reveal and conceal different aspects of the paintings in both collections to rediscover them from an alternative, and critical point of view. The animations immerse the viewer in a panorama of nine large video projections, played in a continuous loop. Literally raising The Raising of Lazarus with art handling | National Gallery The National Gallery 2023-03-28 | Go behind the scenes as our art handlers have the task of moving and rehanging Sebastiano's huge 'Raising of Lazarus'. This picture was the first ever painting in our collection. The painting was commissioned for Narbonne Cathedral in southern France by Cardinal Giulio de' Medici, who had also commissioned Raphael’s Transfiguration for the same cathedral.
