Deira, DUBAI at Night !!! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2016-03-07 | Deira is the area of Dubai north of Dubai Creek and south of the Sharjah border. It is the traditional commercial center of Dubai and the Creek and its dhows were the historic mode of transport. Today Deira is split in two parts. There are the old souks (Gold and Spices) near the waterfront, and Dubai International Airport covers a major part of the area into the creek inland. This small video clip was taken by me from the 10th floor flat of a friend. It shows the beauty of night lights around Deira areas including the creek. Hope you all enjoy this video.

Maradu Kottaram Bhagavathy temple is famous for the amazing and beautiful fire works performed during the annual festival. The Kottaram Bhagavathy temple utsavam(Festival) is called Thalappoli. The Maradu Kottaram temple festival is organized by two teams of the temple namely Vadakke Cheruvaram and Thekke Cheruvaram and they unite together and make the festival a memorable experience. This year the festival was conducted on the 20th and 21st of February and I was there for the first days celebrations. There were 7 elephants participating on the first day of this year's festival spread over the 20th and 21st of February 2016. Elephants reach here every year from surrounding temples and some of them are brought, in lorries. I was able to film two contrasting ways in which the elephants got down from the lorry. Remembering Mahathma Gandhiji on his Birthday ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2015-10-02 | Today is October the 2nd, the 146th Birth Anniversary of Sri Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who led India to independence in 1947. For many people, Gandhiji lives on through his writing, teachings and Sage advice that he imparted on the world throughout his life. I decided to remember the great leader through the voice of my late mother Smt Madhavi Devi Sreekandath who was an exceptionally talented artist and a staunch Gandhiyan in her outlook on life. She recorded these lines for my only daughter nearly 25 years ago, when she was well into her late 70's. H M Ambassador, a much loved Indian Car of yester years ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2015-02-11 | Hindustan Ambassador is to India what Austin Mini is to England and Volkswagen Beetle is to Germany. A cult car indeed. I grew up in an India where these amazing cars were everywhere. I still love these noble cars and try and use it whenever I get a chance. Luckily I now have a wonderful friend who lives in Kochi and owns an Ambassador Classic, a well maintained 1994 model. When I am in Kochi, he kindly takes me wherever I want to go and I love every minute of our journey in this wonderful car. This car has a boot space nearly double the size of other modern cars which easily accommodates my folding bicycle too, during all my sojourns through the city.This car features in most of my video clips as well. A Trinidadian Ellie Mannette (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellie_Mannette) is known as the father of Handpan or Steelpan. Over the years lots of modifications have been done to this instrument. Jimmy, a sound engineer by profession left London and was in the U.S. for a long time where he worked with big names such as Madona and Michael Jackson for years. He opted for a slower, controllable lifestyle few years ago and is now settled down at Brittani in France with his musician wife Gillian. Gillian has now acquired good knowledge of Karnatic music along with Western Pop Music. The well known ‘Hindustan Kalari Sangham’, performing Kalaripayattu at Calicut, INDIA ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2015-02-06 | Kalaripayattu is an ancient and traditional martial art of Kerala. The basic theory of using body as an eye is as old as history of the state. Based on tantra, kalaripayattu is the symbol of the appraisal of physicality to spirituality. Lord Shiva was considered as the deity or guru of Kalaripayattu. Kalari is the place where we practice Kalarpayattu. It is believed that the word Kalari originated from the Sanskrit word kalluriga. There used to be two kinds of Kalaris in early days – namely Kuzhikalari and Angakalari. Kuzhikalari was prepared for regular practice and was designed, based on classic table format. It is difficult to grasp the spiritual content of kalari since it is too deep. It can be learned only through years of hard work and dedication. The practice techniques of Kalari can be classified into four. Meypayattu, Kolthari, Angathari and Verumkai. The ideal age to begin Kalari is seven. Based on Chuvadu and Vadivu, a Meypayatter gives utmost importance for the basic theory of using the body as eye and preparing or toning one’s body. Kolthari, the second major classification is mainly carried out using sticks of specific length and breadth. Angathari – this is where they practice Kalari with sharp weapons, mainly Urumi (Sword), Spear etc. The forth classification called Verumkai merely concentrates on laws and is useful for self defence without weapons. Kalarichikilsa is the traditional way of curing the physical injuries or dislocations which may happen during the practice of Kalari. Here I am, taking a break from the routine and bicycling leisurely around the west end of the big bazar area of Calicut around 6.30 am. These areas will be extremely busy by 8.00 am on working days and I am really enjoying the freedom the morning hours presented me unexpectedly.

The first one connects Vypeen with Vallarpadam, the second one connects Vallarpadam with Bolgatti and the third one connects Bolgatti with mainland Ernakulam. These areas are undergoing massive changes due to the continued expansion of the Vallarpadam International Container Port which is the biggest in India.

Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2014-08-17 | Kerala State Social Justice Department, jointly with Metro Manorama and Mango FM conducted a Bicycle Rally this morning at Calicut. The Rally was awesome and had participation from children and grown ups from all walks of life. For a few hours the beach road and surroundings were totally transformed and brought to a standstill by the participants. They were giving an important message to the world around to be aware of the abuse a number of children are facing in their life and to take measures to end it. They also demonstrated in the process how wonderful, healthy, economical and environmentally friendly bicycling really is and it was my privilege to be there and participate in this wonderful event. This is the end of the event. All the participants are coming back to the point they started after circling Calicut City. I took this small video clip from the saddle of my bicycle while participating.

They were giving an important message to the world around to be aware of the abuse a number of children are facing in their life and to take measures to end it. They also demonstrated in the process how wonderful, healthy, economical and environmentally friendly bicycling really is and it was my privilege to be there and participate in this wonderful event. A very young Baby Squirrel taking its first steps into a wrong world ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2014-06-15 | This very young squirrel accidently walked into the compound of our group of flats at Kozhikode, Kerala, India a little while ago. It ended up in a small room used by our security staff as their office. We were able to move it to relative safety of a mango grove close to our flats where it was reunited with its mother. I was able to video this adorable little thing as it took it's first few steps with it's eyes still closed. Hope you enjoy this:
An open window to yester years Kerala, India ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2014-06-15 | I took this short video clip a few years ago in Palakkad District of Kerala State, INDIA. Was travelling and as we stopped on the roadside for a small rest noticed these farmers busily working on a paddy field. They were planting paddy in the field, a rare sight in modern Kerala. It took me back to my childhood days when there were vast paddy fields and workers in big groups working on them in many parts of Kerala. Decided to take a small video clip for old time sake. Without my tripod I found it difficult to keep my hands steady. Hope you all enjoy this:
Driving through the NICE road, Karnataka State, INDIA ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2014-05-27 | I made a flying visit to Bangalore last week end. As the train, bus and air tickets were not readily available took our car for the 500 km plus journey from Calicut Kerala to Bangalore, Karnataka via Wayanadu and Mysore and back. On my return tried the well known, comfortable NICE road to reach Mysore and this video clip was taken from the car. His son Chandu Balachandran, an active member of We Got Guru team played 'Fur Elise' Beethoven's symphony no.4 on his piano for us.

I took this video clip from the saddle of my bicycle. I was near the offices of the popular Malayalam daily, Mathrubhumi and the huge TV screens for the public to watch the results as they came through were in place.
Arabian sea at Kozhikdode, Kerala, India ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2014-03-31 | This video was taken by me a few years back at Kozhikode beach, well before the beautifications done by the government. It is wonderful to see an unspoilt beach as it is fast becoming a rare thing these days. Kerala is blessed with nearly 500 kms of coastline guarded by the Arabian Sea.

Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2013-09-14 | World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), is an awareness day observed on 10 September every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities around the world. This year I participated in a Bicycle Rally, organised under Cycle Around the Globe, a worldwide initiative to raise awareness about, and to combat, stigma associated with mental health issues and suicidal behaviour and ideation. This was in Kochi on 10/09/2013, Tuesday from 9.00 am to 10.00 am. I took this small video clip when the rally was around three quarters mark of the total distance. One can see the busy morning traffic through the M.G.Road in the heart of Kochi City.

Delhi University Students on their bicycles passing through Kozhikdode, Kerala, India ! Krishnakumar Sreekandath 2013-06-14 | I met a group of students a few days ago at the Calicut University Campus, north Kerala, India. This group of students including Mr Praveen Kumar Singh of Department of Buddhist Studies, Ms Tanvi Yadav of Faculty of Law, Ms Linda Luiz of the Department of Anthropology, Mr Praksh Poddar and Mr Navaneet (all from Delhi University) are on a "Bicycle march for Peace". It started from Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin) on 1st June 2003 and is scheduled to end in Islamabad, Pakistan on 31 August 2013. Main aim of the march is to let the world know that the only way to achieve World Prosperity is through peace, non-violence and by building relations with one's neighbouring countries based on love and understanding.. I wish them success in their wonderful attempt to draw attention of the pubilc to this bicycle march and to the message it carries.
