MrBeast Eye Surgery Update! Mission Flight 2024-11-02 | Because of the outpouring of support from viewers and the online community, someone from MrBeast’s team reached out to us on Nov 1, 2024, and made good on the claim, paying us $124,000 for the 62 surgeries we performed at that particular clinic.For context: this is an update on a previous video we released 8 months ago showing how MrBeast used footage from our clinic without our consent in his own video where he claims to pay for 1,000 people’s eye surgeries. We run this eye clinic twice a year in Mexico, at our own cost, and were shocked to see our clinic, doctors, and patients in his video without our permission or agreement for payment. After multiple attempts at contacting MrBeast, we made a video calling him out and released it publicly in Feb 2024. That video did not go viral and gain MrBeast’s attention until Oct 30th. Upon reimbursement on Nov 1, we delisted the video we made that calls him out since the issue has been resolved.New details that came to light:There was a major miscommunication between MrBeast and a 3rd party organization, SEE International, that MrBeast funded to carry out the 1,000 surgeries.(Mission Flight had no prior knowledge of any arrangement between MrBeast and SEE until after MrBeast released his video.)SEE International receives surplus supplies as a donation from Alcon and other medical manufacturers. They use those supplies to run their own clinics as well as pass along those supplies to other nonprofits, such as Mission Flight. Upon inquiring with SEE as to why our clinic was in MrBeast’s video, SEE told us they considered the small amount of supplies they passed along to us as equivalent to “paying” for the surgeries that we performed in Mexico that weekend. SEE International gave MrBeast footage from our clinic without our consent and reported our surgeries to MrBeast as being their own and part of the 1,000 surgeries that MrBeast paid for.8 months later, upon seeing the Mission Flight video, the MrBeast team reached out to us and immediately made good on the issue. The only purpose for our video was to reach MrBeast and have them make good on their claim.THANK YOU for making our story known and ensuring more people in need are served!
Hope & Healing - a Mission Flight Eye Clinic Story Mission Flight 2024-09-18 | Julia is a double cataract patient that came to our clinic in April 2024. Julia lost her sight about 3 years ago and is only light perceptive in both eyes. She has been desperately seeking surgery for 2 years. She heard about our clinic from one of our volunteers and decided to come to the very next clinic we were having. She also has an amputated leg and is wheelchair-bound due to severe diabetes. Julia and her daughter had an extremely eventful journey to our clinic, as their car caught fire during the 6-hour drive. Thankfully, they were unharmed but had to abandon their car and take a bus the rest of the way. They spent the night outdoors next to the clinic, bundled in blankets, to ensure Julia was near the front of the line the next morning. She was the 1st patient we saw on the first day. Her daughter said that when she first lost her sight, it was an extremely difficult life adjustment. Julia was essentially bed-ridden and not self-sufficient at all. After the surgery she could see much better and recognize the face of her daughter again. Now that her sight is restored, she will begin to regain her independence.Julia will return in September 2024 to have surgery on the other eye. She is only one of hundreds of desperate patients we see at our eye clinics. The need for accessible eye exams and surgery is massive in Mexico, and why we keep coming back.Endless thanks to every single team member - doctors, pilots, volunteers, who commit to serving this community time and time again.
