This is the first of several long plays of Dungeons of Daggorath Online via archive.org/details/coco2cart_Dungeons_of_Daggorath_1982_26-3093_DynaMicro. I attempt to explain some of the details that are involved in gameplay

History: The Radio and Television Packagers redesigned and colored original black and white cartoons from multiple production companies for a total of 44 films mainly in the early 1970’s. Customized film titles and new music was also added for a more “modern” look.
This video has 40 of the 44 films by the Radio and Television Packagers as there are currently four films that are in the lost category. For the list of films in presentation order in this video, please click on the following link:

Anyhow, what I have done is that I have highlighted the eight portals on the Level 2 map. What you will notice is that there are four portals from Level 1 and four portals to Level 3. Within the four portals from Level 1, there are two that include ladders in which they are denoted on the screen. Within the four portals to Level 3, there is only one portal that has a ladder. The rest of the portals including the ones that do have any text to them do not include ladders.
The layout of the portals is in respects to Level 1 and Level 3. Basically saying, if you are on Level 1 and come across a portal, the portal's position on Level 1 is the same as on Level 2. Same thing can be said with Level 2 to Level 3. However, the map layout on every level is different.
Level 2 is the only level in the game where access to two different levels is possible (Level 1 and Level 3) which explains for the two sets of portals on the Level 2 map.
Next, the amount of time it took for me to get through Level 2 is a new record, only 20 minutes! And I was very lucky to even get through the entire level without ending my game.
Then if the welcoming on Level 2 was bad, once I climbed down into Level 3, the wizard was right there. So literally, I had no choice but to climb back up. When I went back to Level 2, I could clearly hear wraiths moving around and luckily, none of them found me. As I mentioned in a previous longplay, unless you are in a true panic situation, you should not attempt to go back a level as the game will bring in enemies from Level 4. I was lucky to not encounter any Level 4 enemies on Level 3, but there may have been one hiding somewhere.
One strategy to consider when arriving into Level 4 is to find the longest hallway possible so that you have a better chance of slowing down your heart as long has there are no enemies nearby as I attempted to do so in this longplay. Remember that after you defeat the wizard on Level 3, the game automatically sends you to Level 4 in a random spot with no items in your backpack and only the items that you possess in your hands. In addition, the location of enemies is also random. The chances of you finding a place to settle to let your heart slow down is rather not so good.
On a different note, I installed Microsoft Edge on my computer a few days ago and was not prepared for the difference in screen size of the game. I was using Microsoft Explorer, but that was causing me problems outside of me doing longplays of the game.
In the meantime, I have created a customized labeled map of Level 2 which includes all of the ways down from Level 1 and down to Level 3. Once I am able to add this file to my collection, then I will be able to do a description on it.
Thanks for watching!
So instead of defeating the strong knight, I decided to what I thought would be a safer move and barely made to the ladder that connects with Level 2. You would think that by going back a level would be completely safe of any enemies as they would have been defeated the first time I was in Level 2, but it turns out that the game brings back all of the enemies that I defeated. In addition, the main concern is that the game also includes enemies from Level 4 (Galdrogs and wraiths). By all means, if you decide to back a level (Either from Level 2 to Level 1 or from Level 3 to Level 2), be prepared for a real challenge! My recommendation would be to bring all of your items with you and set your fort on the floor and obviously the more items you have on the floor, the better chance of you getting a Level 4 enemy. Even though it is possible to gain strength by using this tactic, it is highly not recommended unless you are a skilled player. In addition, no additional items can be collected by going back a level unless you forgot to collect an item on your first encounter with a level.
Going back down a level also brings enemies from Level 4 as exampled in this long play. The problem is that the galdrogs sound nearly exactly the same as a stone giant, so if you come across this situation, you may have a hard time figuring out what enemy is coming your way if you cannot see it. However, the galdrogs move faster than the stone giants so if you can listen closely on the frequency of the enemy sound, you might be able to identify what is within your area and possibly coming your way.
I will plan to do a description about how to go down to the next level including the number of entryways and such on my next long play.
Thanks for watching!
And speaking of Level 4, after you defeat the wizard on Level 3, you are automatically placed onto Level 4 in a random spot on the level with no items in your backpack. The only items that you can bring with you are the items that you have in your hands. I would highly recommend bring along the iron sword and the second ring that you used to help defeat the wizard. The second ring should still have two shots remaining which is helpful in the fact the enemies on Level 4 are a lot harder.
On Level 4, there are scorpions that do not carry any items. There are also the strong knights (Same ones as on Level 3) that carry items. At this point of the game, because you start out on Level 4 with no items in your backpack, it is literally impossible to defeat a strong knight in one spot. The best way to defeat the knights is to do a few very rapid hits and then move away. You want your heart to slow down as much as possible before attacking again. Use this so called "Hit and move" strategy until the knight is defeated.
There are two new enemies on Level 4. First, there are wraiths. These are mad looking faces that move extremely fast. Not only are they fast, but they are also difficult. Before attacking any wraith, make sure that your heart is slowed down as much as possible. In addition, you must attack a wraith absolutely consecutively fast in order to defeat it. If you mess up on your typing to attack or if your heart is not slow enough to get the wraith in one spot, then use the hit and move strategy that is also recommended for the strong knights. Wraiths start out at approximately ten hits and because they move so fast, they also can attack you almost immediately they get next to you.
The second new enemy on Level 4 are the galdrogs. These are considered the second hardest enemy there is within the entire game. They are so strong that even a hit with a ring will most likely not defeat them. By all means, you should leave the galdrogs last to go after.
In terms of items on Level 4, the knights, the wraiths, and the galdrogs carry items. You want to collect as many items as possible so that you create your fort of items on the floor for when you are ready for a galdrog. One word of caution, a new hale flask can be collected on Level 4. Do not use the hale flask in order to help you on this level as you will need to keep it until Level 5 and the final wizard. The knights and wraiths carry items that you have seen and used before, however the galdrogs can carry some new items (That is assuming that you are able to defeat a galdrog). There is the elvish sword which is the most powerful sword in the game. Even though it will reduce the number of attacks on enemies, it will speed up your heart much faster than by using an iron sword. There is also the mithril shield which is the most powerful shield in the game. This shield will provide you with the most protection, but it will vary on the type of enemy that you are dealing with. It is possible to use the mithril shield as a means of attack on enemies, but the attack rate is slower compared to using a sword.
Other than a new sword and a new shield, there is a new ring available. After you are able to reveal the ring, it will be a joule ring. As a reminder, all rings have to be incanted before use. After you are able to incant the joule ring, the ring will turn into an energy ring. This is the only ring that you will be able to have in order to defeat the final wizard on Level 5.
And then, there is a new type of scroll. This scroll, after you are able to reveal it should be a seer scroll. It is possible to collect a vision scroll on Level 4, but the seer scroll is the best scroll there is in the game. Not only does it have the same features as the vision scroll but it also shows you all remaining enemies there are on the level as well as the locations of any items that you may have dropped onto the floor. In respects to the enemies being shown via the seer scroll, you will be able to see the movement of all remaining enemies on the level. Each enemy in the moves at their own speed. Some move at the same speed at each other while others are slower and faster. By looking at the seer scroll, you have a good chance to see what type of enemy or enemies are still present on the level. This should allow you to prepare yourself accordingly for when they get to you.
Thanks for watching!
What I could have done was, I could have gone back up to Level 2 for a brief moment and then go back down to Level 3. Usually when this happens, the enemies reset and are in different positions on the level which would hopefully give me a chance to recover and such. However, there is a catch for when a player goes back a level in which I will explain in a future long play.
Anyhow, allow me to describe how to defeat the wizard in Level 3. There are several things that should happen before you are ready to go after the wizard. First, you want to collect the second solar torch from a scorpion. The second solar torch should be lit right before you are ready to go after the wizard. Anyone might ask, why light up the second solar torch so early? I will explain the answer later in this descriptive.
The next thing to do is to collect the second hale flask from a strong knight. You should have two hale flasks available for when it comes time to go after the wizard. Remember that each hale flask is only good once.
Then you should collect the thews flask from a strong knight. This flask will increase your energy and attack levels as well as decreasing the rate of damage to yourself. You should use the thews flask as soon as you are able to and like the hale flask, the thews flask can only be used one time.
When you are ready to go after the wizard, use the vision scroll to find a long hallway (Preferably the longest hallway possible) and then prepare and wait at an end of the hallway.
The wizard on Level 3 can only be defeated by the use of rings, the iron sword does not help. In this case, you should have a ring in one hand and a hale flask in the other hand. The fire and ice rings have the same effect on the wizard, it does not matter what ring you start out with. However, each time you attack with a ring, your heart is going to speed up rapidly. This is where the hale flask comes into play to help slow down your heart.
The other catch is that each ring (Fire and Ice) can only be used up to three times and then it turns into a gold ring and becomes useless.
It can take up to three hits by the use of rings to defeat the wizard. Once you can defeat the wizard, you have finished Level 3. However, instead of finding a way down to Level 4, you are automatically sent to Level 4 by means of another wizard on Level 5 (There are five levels in the game). In addition, any items that you have in your backpack will be gone. The only items that you will be able to bring with you into Level 4 will be the items that you have in your hands. With that said, before you attack the wizard on Level 3 for the last hit, make sure that you have an iron sword in the other hand from the ring. Otherwise, you will be going into Level 4 without a sword.
Anyways, to attack the wizard on Level 3, stand at the end of a long hallway. Have either the fire ring or ice ring in one hand and a hale flask in the other hand. Immediately after you attack the wizard with a hit, move out of the way as the wizard will have and opportunity to attack you if you are not fast enough to move out. Move a number of spaces away and use the first hale flask. Then drop it on the ground and continue to move to the other end of the long hallway. Pull the second hale flask from your backpack and wait for the wait for the wizard to come towards you.
After the second hit on the wizard, do the same thing with moving out of the way and using the second hale flask. Continue moving to the other end of the long hallway. Before you perform the third attack on the wizard, you should drop the ring that you used for the first two hits onto the ground. Then pull the second ring from your backpack into a hand and pull the iron sword into the other hand. The second ring and the sword should be the two items that you should bring into Level 4. If all goes well, you should be able to defeat the wizard on the third hit, leaving two more attacks available on the second ring.
I will be able to describe more about what happens for when you first arrive into Level 4 in a future long play.
Thanks for watching!
Anyhow, allow me to describe Level 3 in terms of enemies and items. As a helpful recommendation, have a lunar torch lit before heading into Level 3. The reason being is that there are a total of seven scorpions on this level and they are practically invincible with the lunar torch. The way that you will be able to figure when a scorpion is nearby is if you are able to hear the sound that the scorpions make. In addition, when a scorpion is in the space next to you, you will only be able to see a partial outline of it. The way to handle scorpions is to attack as soon as you see the partial outline in the lower left area of your game screen. It is very important to listen and prepare for especially scorpions as they will attack you and end your game.
Although scorpions may be invincible with the lunar torch, it only takes one hit to defeat them. However, if you are able to defeat only a few enemies on Level 3, you should be able to reveal the solar torch. The solar torch is the most powerful torch in the game and it is bright enough so that you will be able to see the scorpions as they come towards you. In addition, the movement of scorpions is fast, so certainly prepare yourself ahead of time accordingly before they attack you. Another feature about the scorpions is that they will not stop to pick up your items, so you will not be able to benefit from any additional time that you would have in order to attack. Basically saying, they will attack you as soon as they get next to you.
Most of the scorpions carry items in which you already have. However, there is one scorpion that is carrying another solar torch. You should keep the second solar torch with you as it is a good idea to light the solar torch for when you are ready to go after the wizard.
In addition to scorpions, there are four stone giants with axes on Level 3 and none are carrying items. At this point of the game, it should only take up to four hits to defeat a stone giant.
There are also three blobs in which no items are carried by them.
Then there are four knights and these knights are not the same knights that are on Level 2. They are a lot stronger and more deadly. It can take up to 30 hits to defeat a knight on Level 3 and remember to control your rate of attack. In addition, make sure that you are able to attack with as many items on the ground as they will take the time to pick up your items.
The four knights on Level 3 carry items. One knight is carrying a vision scroll. Another knight is carrying an abye flask (Do not use for yourself!). One knight is carrying a hale flask, and the fourth knight is carrying a thews flask. The thews flask is one of the best flasks there is within the game. What this flask will do is that it will make you a certain percentage stronger and will allow you to defeat enemies in fewer hits. It will also decrease the damage that is done from other enemies if they are able to attack you.
Then there is a wizard. The wizard is considered the boss of Level 3. In order for you to be ready to go after the wizard, you want to make sure that you have both of the rings (Fire and Ice) that you collected in Level 1 and Level 2 respectively. You also want to make sure that you have both hale flasks available, remember that the hale flasks are only good one time each. And lastly, make sure that you have used the thews flask for yourself.
I will be able to explain more about how to attack the wizard in a future long play as well as what happens after you do.
Thanks for watching!
Anyhow, allow me to describe the enemies that are present on Level 2. There are six stone giants on Level 2 and instead of them holding clubs, they are holding axes. What this means is that the stone giants with the axes are a lot stronger than the stone giants with the clubs on Level 1. Hopefully when you get to Level 2 that you are using the iron sword as the wooden sword would hardly help in attacking at this point of the game. With the iron sword, the first stone giant on Level 2 may take up to 15 hits. And as a reminder, anytime you attack with a sword, your heart rate increases. At this point of the game, it is not recommended attacking repetitiously as your game has a much higher chance of ending early.
In addition, to help give you more time to attack, you should find a place to settle, preferably at a dead end. This should allow you to drop most of your items that you collected on Level 1 onto the floor. By having more items on the floor, the longer it takes for an enemy to attack you.
Anyhow, back to the stone giants on Level 2. Even though the first stone giant that you face may take up to 15 hits, the last stone giant may take only 5 or 6 hits. The reason being is that your strength increases throughout the game. Every time you defeat an enemy, your strength increases. The amount of the strength increasing is based on the difficulty on the enemy that you defeat. For example, defeating a stone giant on Level 2 would increase your strength the most as it is the most difficult enemy on Level 2.
All six stone giants on Level 2 carry items. Three of the stone giants are carrying flasks, two being abye flasks and one being a hale flask. As I described in a previous long play, abye flasks are considered deadly poison and by all means, do not use them to yourself for any reason.
In addition to the three flasks, there is a stone giant that is carrying a solar torch. This torch is the most powerful torch in the game, however it cannot be revealed until you are able to get to Level 3 and defeat some enemies. There is another stone giant that is carrying a scroll. This scroll after you are able to reveal it will be a vision scroll. This scroll will show you where you are on the level as well as all access points from Level 1 and to Level 3. I will describe the access points on Level 2 in a future long play. And lastly, there is a stone giant that is carrying a ring. This ring after you are able to reveal it will be a rime ring. As a general note, all rings must be incanted before use so after you are able to incant the rime ring, it will turn into an ice ring in which you should save until you are ready to go after the wizard on Level 3.
A new enemy can be found on Level 2 and that is the knight. There are six knights on Level 2 and they are the second hardest enemy on this level. The first knight that you face may take up to nine or ten hits, however the last knight that you face may only take three hits. All knights carry items. There are two knights that carry lunar torches. Two knights are carrying bronze shields which is the next strongest shield in the game. One knight is carrying a pine torch, and one knight is carrying a wooden sword.
Blobs return to Level 2 and there are six of them on this level. There are three blobs that are carrying items. One is carrying a pine torch, another is carrying a wooden sword, and the third is carrying a leather shield.
And finally, there are four snakes and two spiders on Level 2 where no items are carried by them.
The total number of items that can be collected on Level 2 is 15, and when added to the items collected on Level 1, the total will be 25.
I will be able to explain enemies and items on Level 3 on my next long play of Dungeons of Daggorath. Thanks for watching!
In any case, allow me to do a review on the items that can be collected on Level 2. Just to point out, as the game progresses, you will come across multiple copies of the same item (Example: two wooden swords on Level 1). Anyways, on Level 2, you will have the opportunity to collect more copies of the items that were collected on Level 1 except for the fire ring. It is true that a ring is collected on Level 2, but instead of it being a fire ring, it is an ice ring after you incarnate the ring.
In addition, you have the opportunity to collect bronze shields which are the next powerful shields there is. These do provide more protection than a leather shield, but still not a lot. Remember that any item that you collect must be revealed before using.
There is also a scroll where after it is able to be revealed (It may take some enemy defeats before being able to reveal the scroll), it will turn into a vision scroll where it will show you the map of Level 2 and your current position on the map.
There is also a solar torch which cannot be revealed until you defeat some enemies on Level 3. If you run out of the usage of pine and lunar torches, then use the solar torch even though the solar torch will only be as bright as the lunar torch until you get a chance to reveal the solar torch on Level 3. And by the way, every lunar torch is good for up to 30 minutes which in respects to the number of lunar torches that you can collect, you should have enough time to get through Level 2.
Then there are flasks. You must be very careful in how to use flasks. There are two types of flasks on Level 2, abye and hale. Abye flasks will end your have immediately as it is considered a deadly poisonous drink. Do not use abye flasks for yourself. The hale flask on Level 2 is a flask in which will help you recover by means of slowing down your heart rate. This flask is only good one time, then it becomes useless. My recommendation on the hale flask is to save it until you are ready to go after the wizard on Level 3.
In summary, before you go down to Level 3, it is a good idea to collect the maximum of 25 items as the more items that you are able to carry with you, the better chances of your survival throughout Level 2 and Level 3.
In my next long play of Dungeons of Daggorath, I will explain the enemies on Level 1 and the items that they carry and such so that you can have an idea of what enemy is carrying what.
Thanks for watching!
Anyways, allow me to explain the enemies that are found on Level 1 and the items that they carry realizing that not every enemy carries an item. There are four stone giants that have clubs with them and each one is carrying a torch. Two stone giants carry pine torches, and the other two carry lunar torches.
There are nine snakes on Level 1. Two of the snakes carry items. One snake is carrying a wooden sword and another snake is carrying a leather shield.
There are two blobs on Level 1 and both are carrying items. One blob is carrying an iron sword and the other blob is carrying the Vulcan Ring. The iron sword can be used on Level 1 once you have defeated a number of enemies and have collected at least six or seven items. The Vulcan Ring once incanted will turn it into a fire ring in which you should save in your backpack until it comes time to go after the wizard on Level 3.
And last, there are nine spiders on Level 1. None of the spiders carry items, but they are the easiest enemy to defeat and only provides minimal increase to your heart each time they attack you. But remember, that your game could still end early if you do not attack on spiders on Level 1.
In terms of enemy difficulty on Level 1, the spider is easiest, followed by the snake, the stone giant, and last the blob.
As far as the ten items that you can collect on Level 1, here is the list:
2 Pine Torches (Not including the pine torch that you start out with in your backpack)
2 Lunar Torches
1 Wooden Sword (Not including the wooden sword that you start out with in your backpack)
1 Leather Shield
1 Iron Sword
1 Vulcan Ring (Fire ring after you perform incarnation)
Total Items: 10
I will explain the enemies on Level 2 in my next long play of Dungeons of Daggorath.
Thanks for watching!
Besides that, allow me to explain some of the items that you can collect on Level 1. When you first start the game, you start out with a pine torch and a wooden sword. The pine torch only lasts for about 15 minutes before it starts to fade and becomes a dead torch. On Level 1, you have the opportunity to collect two more pine torches in case you need more time on Level 1 to collect the maximum of ten items.
The wooden sword that you start out with stays good throughout the same. However, you have an opportunity to collect an iron sword which is stronger than a wooden sword. The only catch is that in order to use the iron sword, you have to have defeated enough enemies and collected about six or seven items before you are able to reveal the iron sword.
The leather shield is a basic shield that does not provide much protection between yourself and enemies. Apparently, I would prefer not to use it as it is practically useless.
In addition to the pine torch on Level 1, you have the opportunity to collect two lunar torches. These torches can be used on Level 1, however it not recommended as they will only be as bright as a pine torch until you get to Level 2. Once on Level 2, you have to defeat some enemies before being able to reveal them and then they will work properly.
And finally, there is a ring. This ring that can be collected on Level 1 is designed to be used on the wizard on Level 3. Before the ring can be used, there are two steps that need to be done and they can be done on Level 1. First, the ring must be revealed and this can only be done after you have defeated enough enemies and collected about seven or more items. After the ring is revealed, you should be able to see the ring as a Vulcan ring. The next step that needs to be done is that the ring has to be incanted. You will be able to see how the ring is incanted by watching my long play videos.
I will plan to give an item description on Level 2 on my next long play. Thanks for watching!
In any case, some of the things that I was going to point out in my commentary were the number of items to collect in Level 1 and Level 2. On Level 1, there should be at least ten items total (Eight or nine in the backpack and one or two items in your hands). On Level 2, there should be at least 25 items total (23 or 24 items in the backpack and one or two items in your hands.
All items that you collect can help you set your "barrier" between yourself and enemies. Most of the enemies that you face will take the time to pick up your items before they attack you. While this is happening, you have the opportunity to attack ahead while watching your heartrate. Remember that every time you attack with a sword, it increases your heartrate. And at any moment that your heart beats too fast, you will pass out and the game will be over unless you recover at the last minute.
More descriptions about the gameplay of Dungeons of Daggorath will be provided in future videos.
Thanks for watching!
