BANGKOK SCENES 1985, 1987 & 1996 old45s 2015-02-14 | From the Archives - Some scenes taken in Bangkok from previous trips where I had access to a video camera. In 1985 I used a Panasonic M3, in 1987 I used a Panasonic M5... in both these camera's you recorded onto the actual VHS video cassette. In 1996 I used a Canon Hi-8. You will notice the picture quality improve as the years progress.Other observations include a quiet Sukhumvit Rd pre-Skytrain, the Superstar Beergarden in Patpong with 25 Baht Amarit Draft and Soi Cowboy with the 'original' Cowboy Bar (don't blink or you'll miss it). As you will see, my videography skills in the 80's were poor, too much zooming.. and fast forward to the present, nothing much has changed, except for the camera!

HONEY HOTEL - THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES - ONE YEAR ON old45s 2019-02-11 | A quick look at the now CLOSED Honey Hotel in Bangkok.It's now been derelict for ONE YEAR.The interior has been partially 'gutted' however the façade still remains. Actually, rooms 212 and 214 have been given new, more modern windows so go figure.One of the Honey's former Taxi drivers told me that all work on the building had halted because the Development Application was knocked back by 'local' government... something to do with the developers wanting to exceed the allowed height restrictions.(Excuse the 'jerky' portion of the video. My mobile phone's frame rate is not compatible with the editing software).

OATLEY STATION UPGRADE - NOW and THEN old45s 2017-06-12 | Oatley Railway Station in (NSW) Australia was recently upgraded with a new overhead walkway with lift access from road to platform. This is a short historical journey from pre-upgrade to the finished product.The new stairway on the western side is a bit of a 'white elephant' however the lift is a blessing for the elderly and disabled using the station. Actually, the lift shaft should've been excavated BENEATH the platform instead of ABOVE it for the western side access, that way, no need for the many many steps. You would simply access the lift from the western side through a short tunnel entrance, then straight up in the lift to platform level.FIRST LEVEL - Overhead walkway to Eastern SidePLATFORM LEVEL - Station platformLG LEVEL - Street level western side. Fortunately, the short flight of stairs that you access in the subway still remain.

It must be produced using Cyberlink Video Editing Software, it must be about travel, and.. have a duration of less than 5 minutes. As well as editing and content quality, the judges are particularly looking for frequent use of their software's many features and special effects. Unfortunately, I'm not big on using too many "effects" as they distract the viewers attention away from the actual video's 'flow'... Nevertheless, I have still entered this video into the competition albeit just to use some of my old video files that would've only been for personal viewing.

SYDNEY RADIO - 2SM 1971 TOP 40 CHARTS old45s 2016-05-30 | A week by week display of Sydney Radio Station 2SM's Top 40 Chart from the year of 1971. These charts were available free of charge from Sydney's record shops. There was a long period where 2SM had no free 'over the counter' charts. They recommenced issuing these charts again in 1971 with the first one dated 12th March, 1971.The music accompanying the video is a montage of what you would have heard on Radio Station 2SM in 1971.Throughout the 70's, 2SM ended each year with a Top 100 Hits of that year free Poster.Reproduction of these 2SM Charts on You Tube are not for profit, but for educational purposes only.

Released back in 1978... but forgotten by most now, this great song needed a new refreshing video to accompany it. The lyrics (unintentionally) describe the 'entertainment' area's of Bangkok (and Chiang Mai) and what goes on there. For the uninitiated I've included the song's lyrics.
SYDNEY RADIO - 2SM AIR CHECK - PART 2 - NEW YEARS DAY 1974 old45s 2015-11-23 | Part 2 of an air-check of Sydney Radio Station 2SM recorded on New Years Day 1974. On this day they played a countdown of the Top 100 Songs of 1973. On this video we hear song #90 to song #75. I had to edit "Frankenstein" (Edgar Winter Group) and "Crazy Horses" (The Osmonds) for copyright reasons. If you're listening to this through a decent sound system, and the tape noise/rumble is a problem, try turning down the Bass control.. that should fix it.
SYDNEY RADIO - 2SM AIR CHECK - NEW YEARS DAY 1974 old45s 2015-10-09 | On New Years Day, 1974... Sydney Radio Station 2SM played a countdown of the Top 100 Songs of 1973. As a young bloke with a reel to reel tape recorder and a lot of spare time on my hands, I recorded the Top 100 uninterrupted complete with ads, music and jingles. As the tape is over 40 years old the quality isn't perfect, but still good enough for you to listen to and immerse yourself into the early 70's. On this video I have an uninterrupted countdown from #15 to #1. Two songs (from Carly Simon and Led Zepellin) were edited to just the intro and outro to keep the YouTube Copyright people happy. Enjoy this piece of Sydney Radio history.

OATLEY LIONS FESTIVAL 2014 old45s 2015-08-30 | Oatley Lions Festival also know as just "Oatley Fair" is held every year on a Saturday in October. It is widely know by locals that it NEVER rains on the day of Oatley Fair... the 2014 Festival started off fairly overcast but cleared later and even gave the cameraman a light sunburn. Of course lessons were learnt!In case you didn't know, the suburb of Oatley lies about 18 kms south of Sydney Airport.

THAI BUDDHIST MONASTERY 147kms FROM SYDNEY old45s 2014-05-21 | Sunnataram Forest Monastery is a Theravada Buddhist monastery in the Thai Forest Tradition.It was established in July 1990 and is situated on the outskirts of Bundanoon, 2 hrs drive from Sydney.I spent most of Saturday, May 17th (2014) down on this property and soaked up the ambience. It's a beautiful natural setting, very peaceful... I can see why the outdoor meditation sessions are so popular here.It was the perfect day to try out my new camera!

WASHINGTON SQUARE, BANGKOK - NOW AND THEN old45s 2014-04-28 | Washington Square was a small entertainment area off Sukhumvit Rd in Bangkok. Its customers were mainly expats, regulars and the odd tourist that stayed at the nearby hotels.The 'dozers have since gone in and levelled the area for future development. This video is basically a walk down memory lane with the odd flashback. Enjoy!
BANGKOK - RIVERSIDE & ROOFTOP BARS old45s 2014-02-13 | Since the movie "Hangover 2" Rooftop Bars in Bangkok have risen in popularity, many offer great views of Bangkok's Chao Phraya River... which has led me to record this video of some of the better rooftop and riverside bars.My very first trip to Bangkok was 31 years ago and I stayed at the Sheraton on the River... these days I stay at other hotels but I always go back to my 'roots'... the River is a pleasant contrast to the hustle and bustle of downtown Bangkok.This video features some breathtaking views of the Bangkok skyline but I must apologise for the self indulgence... at each venue there is a short clip of me sucking up the ambience (and the wine).F.Y.I. I thought the best rooftop Bar was The Moon Bar for the view and the 360 Bar for its cheaper drink prices, proximity to the river and ambience. The Lebua is overpriced! PLEASE NOTE! SYDNEY RADIO - GRAHAME RODGERS AIRCHECK old45s 2013-08-11 | Recorded on the evening of the 23RD FEBRUARY, 1978, this air check features 2SM jock Grahame Rodgers in between the full ad breaks and the edited songs. A great little ad break near the end includes an ad for TV Week, Streets Pine-Lime Splice and Centre point. If YouTube copyright laws allowed me to include all the music IN FULL, then listening to this air check... you would think you were back there in the summer of 1978, when your radio tuner knob was super-glued to 1270-2SM.
SYDNEY RADIO - RON E SPARX AIRCHECK old45s 2013-08-04 | This air check was recorded during an electrical storm hence some of the interference and Ron E's reference to 'pedalling' (they went off the air for a short time during a song).It was recorded on Tuesday evening the 20th of September, 1977 between 4.20 and 5.10pm.The 5 o'clock news bulletin is interesting and you will probably notice that the Channel 7 Evening News Promo gets quite a thrashing.
SYDNEY RADIO - GREG REES 1974 old45s 2013-08-03 | In December, 1974 I was a 19 yo living in Sydney that happened to have a rare Saturday night at home. Maybe I was sick, I don't remember. I do remember though, turning on 2SM and recording Greg Rees during his late Saturday night shift. I managed to record just over 1 hours worth. After editing the music this aircheck is reduced to 20 minutes... the AMCO Bull Denim Jeans ad, the Waltons Insurance ad plus plus are great to hear again in this audio time capsule.

WASHINGTON SQUARE, BANGKOK old45s 2011-05-29 | The Texas Lone Star Saloon, Bangkok has closed its doors for the final time. It features in this video of the Washington Square Bar area situated off Sukhumvit Rd and Soi 22. Frequented mainly by 'farang' expats, this area is slowly succumbing to so- called 'progress' as establishments that have been keeping customers happy since the early to mid eighties are closing down to make way for ANOTHER large hotel and more shops.
