V/H/S - One of the most incredible found footage series to ever grace the silver screen (and streaming) has been around for over a decade and soon to be 7 entries - but what is the best segment in this anthology of terror?

All 28 Segments from the VHS series are ranked here (yes, I've taken out the majority of the wraparound stories) And to the YouTube Team - yes, the majority of violence, nudity and gore have been heavily censored.

Breaking down this whole series in 2023 was a lot more fascinating than I thought possible. Horror has changed so much in the last two years with new reboots, new franchises and an evolution of the Found Footage formula - plus you know, people and times change. Last year, I got the astounding opportunity to work with Isis Avis Loren on a project known as Ballads and Ballgowns for a Midsumma Festival Project.

With a shoestring budget, a lot of heart and a lot of help, she pulled off a stunning performance night after night with small pieces I'd help shoot with Caitie Murphy and a small crew. Shown between beautiful ballads which Isis would perform to and talk about.

We started shooting in December 2021 during some of the worst weather the city had ever experienced. Shooting for several hours back to back through rain, lightning and multiple outfit changes, I edited those pieces in the lead up to the show with about 1-2 months to spare. Then when it came time to film the show, we only had about two to three takes max, due to limited time and space in the venue. In the end, Isis pulled off something truly magical.

There was a plan to create a full digital version, but sadly, a few things got in the way despite our best efforts. Regardless, I believe we were all proud of our work at the end of the day. Both Isis and Caitie were diligent, creative and had such a beautiful vision that was a mix of Old Hollywood and Modern Pop Aesthetics. It was my first project outside of anything I'd made for myself, and with their guidance, empathy, patience and honesty - I could not have done this by myself.

This was the first thing I'd ever shot, edited, planned and put together as a full piece and while we never got to complete it to its utmost potential, I wanted to share (with permission, of course) some of my favourite shots and moments from the shoot.

The mcXtape - A McVaporwave Odyssey by Killawarra.
