The good news is that climate solutions are now more accessible than ever. The cost of wind and solar power, for example, has plummeted in the last decade. Expanding existing efforts to reduce deforestation and increase energy efficiency has the potential to significantly slash emissions.
In the ongoing series, "The Big Fix," The World reports on what communities, individuals, governments and businesses are doing to cut emissions, as well as adapting to the impacts of climate change that are already being felt.
Check out more reporting on "The Big Fix." And tune into The World’s social channels for our monthly video series exploring climate change solutions around the globe.

The war that began a year ago has killed thousands of people and forced millions to flee their homes. Entire cities have been reduced to rubble.
The intense confrontations have also fueled fears of an open conflict between Russia and NATO.
President Vladimir Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine from the north, east and south in what he called a “special military operation” to achieve the “demilitarization” and “denazification” of the country and protect ethnic Russians.
Moscow also wanted to prevent Kyiv’s NATO membership and to keep it in Russia’s “sphere of influence.” Ukraine and the West say it's an illegal act of aggression against a country with a democratically elected government and a Jewish president whose relatives were killed in the Holocaust.
Russian troops quickly reached Kyiv's outskirts, but their attempts to capture the capital and other cities in the northeast met stiff resistance.
The magnitude of the conflict, with no end in sight, has striking numbers.
Ahead of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, over 150,000 Russian troops had been amassing around Ukraine in Belarus and Russia.
At the start of the invasion, Ukraine had an active 196,600 military personnel. New conscripts and civilian volunteers bolstered the number of personnel to anywhere between 500,000 and 700,000.
Russia’s planned recruitment of about 300,000 new troops last fall proved successful, expanding their military numbers to well over a million people.
Military casualties for both nations are said to have reached the tens of thousands.

The World’s Marco Werman reported from the port city of Ishinomaki, where more than 3,000 people had lost their lives.
He took listeners along the ruined fishing port, past shipwrecks washed ashore and by homes turned into rubble and cars smashed like tin cans. He spoke with Aya Saeki, who was 37 years old and living in a house just a block from the ocean when the sea flattened her neighborhood. Even as the rubble was still being cleared, she wanted to return to her home. So did her mother, who felt closely tied to the city where her own parents had grown up.
Two pairs of artists, Americans and Japanese, are behind the project: Hiroyuki Abe and Natsuka Endo in Tokyo and Sue Mark and her husband Bruce Douglas from the San Francisco Bay Area. The four met in 2019.
The artists collected thoughts from residents of the impacted Tohoku region of northeast Japan about the recovery and people’s hopes for the future.

A record 32 million people who identify as Latino will be eligible to vote in the 2020 presidential election, according to Pew Research Center. That’s just over 13% of the electorate — surpassing eligible black voters for the first time and making Latinos the nation’s largest voter group after whites.
But will they come out to vote?
Even though young Latino voters have similar priority issues as any other young American — health care, the economy, climate change and how to afford college, among others — they also have different interests and nuances connected to their family backgrounds, along with their social and economic statuses.
All of these things — combined with a pandemic and a racial reckoning that have upended their lives — are shaping their politics.
“Every 30 Seconds” is a collaborative public media reporting project tracing the young Latino electorate ahead of the 2020 national election. The project, launched in February 2020 and funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, is led by The World, the daily global news and analysis program from PRX and WGBH.
“Every 30 Seconds" is a national collaboration bringing together diverse perspectives from across the country. Stations contributing to “Every 30 Seconds” include KERA in Dallas, Texas; KJZZ in Phoenix, Arizona; KPBS in San Diego, California; KUOW in Seattle, Washington; WABE in Atlanta, Georgia; WLRN in Miami, Florida; and WUNC in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
