Climbing Engineer Mountain // A Dangerous Endeavor in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains Buckeye Drifters 2025-03-13 | This video finds us camping in Southwest Colorado near the town of Durango. If you're familiar with this part of the country you know we're in the midst of the stunning San Juan Mountains. There are plenty of adventures in the area and the Pass Trail to Engineer Mountain is one of them. The 6 mile roundtrip hike with 2,500 ft of elevation gain was awesome but became very tricky towards the end. We came to a point where we had to make an easy decision and err on the side of caution. We did not summit the peak but the journey was still one we'd do again. We hope you enjoy the video.
A Day Trip to Dry Tortugas NP // 70 Miles into the Gulf Buckeye Drifters 2026-09-02 | A visit to Key West, Florida isn’t complete without a trip to the Dry Tortugas National Park. Situated in the Gulf, 70 miles west of Key West, Dry Tortugas is known for its stunning natural beauty, wildlife, beaches, coral reefs, campgrounds and array of activities both in and out of the water.Dry Tortugas National Park earned its place in the history of the United States when the Navy decided to build a military fortress there to protect the Florida coastline. Construction of Fort Jefferson began in 1846 and included 25-ton Cannons and other heavy artillery. While it was still under construction, the fort served as a prison during the Civil War and was well known for its harsh conditions.
Long Lake Trail // Wind River Mountain Range, Wyoming Buckeye Drifters 2026-04-22 | This 5 mile round trip hike quickly drops 1,500 feet through a beautiful pine forest to Long Lake. The trail is rocky and moderately challenging, especially with the elevation gain on the return trip. We only saw 2 other people on the trail so it felt quite remote. After enjoying the views of the lake, we hiked along the creek that runs out the lake to find a place to fish. The creek was amazing with small waterfalls and crystal clear pools that made good fishing spots. We had a surprise on our way back to the trailhead that capped off a great morning.
Sacred Rim Trail // Wind River Mountain Range, Wyoming Buckeye Drifters 2026-03-17 | The Sacred Rim Trail is a good introductory hike in the spectacular Wind River Mountain Range of Wyoming. A 30 minute drive from the town of Pinedale places you at the trailhead of this short yet spectacular journey. The hike is a 3.3 mile round trip with 550 ft. of elevation gain and is rated as moderate by AllTrails. The scenery is somewhat limited until you get to the end where you are rewarded with a jaw dropping view of the mountain range. We hope you enjoy the video.
A Comprehensive 5 Day Tour of Dinosaur National Monument Buckeye Drifters 2026-01-31 | In this video we spend 5 partial days in Dinosaur National Monument. Located in the northern parts of both Utah and Colorado, this monument has a feeling of taking you back in time. It's famous for its incredible fossil beds with thousands of dinosaur bones still embedded in rock and its stunning canyon landscapes. Hiking trails are plentiful in this 330,000 square mile park which made it a perfect destination for us.
Mica Mines Trail // Amazing Mineral Mine Near Grand Junction Colorado Buckeye Drifters 2025-12-05 | The Mica Mines Trail is an easy to moderate 2.7 mile hike. Stunning canyon views including the towering Wingate Cliffs and interesting rock formations are highlights of the hike. The main attraction for us was finding the abundance of the mineral mica and quartz near the mine. We enjoyed a little scrambling at the mine site which added a little spice to the morning fun. It was dry when we hiked it but there are reports of multiple creek crossings during certain times of the year. We hope you enjoy our video!
Hike to Ring Arch // Arches National Park, Moab Utah Buckeye Drifters 2025-11-13 | In this video we hiked to an arch we'd not previously heard of. It took 3 visits to the park before we found out it existed. The unmaintained trail was faint but we navigated the 3 mile roundtrip hike and enjoyed the solitude of a very neat arch. As a bonus, we were able to enjoy finding some petroglyphs near the arch. We hope you enjoy our adventure.
Hidden Valley Trail // Less Traveled Moab Utah Adventure Buckeye Drifters 2025-10-03 | If you're looking for an easy to get to hike in Moab, this is a good one. The views are great and with a little research, you'll know where the incredibly large assortment of petroglyphs are located. This 6 mile hike with almost 1,200 ft of elevation gain is quite steep at the beginning but levels out as you walk through to valley. What an enjoyable adventure it was!
Professor Creek and Mary Jane Canyon Trail // More FUN than most! Buckeye Drifters 2025-09-04 | About 20 miles northeast of Moab, Utah is the Professor Creek and Mary Canyon trailhead. If you enjoy the peaceful sounds of walking along a creek with an added bonus of being in a beautiful canyon, this hike is for you. The challenging parts of the hike for some would be the 8 miles round trip distance and for all, it would be trying to stay dry. Our advice, don’t even try, just get wet and embrace the fun. You’ll get wet at the end anyways as you near the waterfall when the canyon gets too narrow to stay out of the water. We hope you enjoy the video!
Hunter Canyon // We made it a challenge! Buckeye Drifters 2025-08-15 | About 5 miles outside of Moab, Utah is Hunter Canyon. The trail is around 4 miles through a sandy bottomed canyon. It's quite scenic and a tad overgrown in some areas partly because it's less traveled. If you like natural arches there are 2 that you'll see, Hunter Arch and Curious Arch. We added some spice to our adventure by scrambling up to Hunter Arch (video thumbnail). It's a find your own way journey up to the arch, a little steep and slippery in spots. A great hike away from the crowds of Moab.
The Bizarre Fisher Towers Trail // Moab Utah Buckeye Drifters 2025-07-18 | Just a few miles from Moab, Utah is the Fisher Towers Trail. It's about a 5 mile hike through a maze of enormous pinnacles, spires and oddly shaped rock formations. One of the spires, named the Titan, is the tallest freestanding sandstone spire in America at 900 feet. We've hiked a number of trails near Moab and this is one of our favorites. A Hike Away From The Moab Crowds // Jeep Arch Buckeye Drifters 2025-07-03 | If you're looking for beautiful views, a decent workout and very few people, this hike is a great option near Moab, Utah. About 10 miles from Moab is the Jeep Arch Trailhead. It's just a pull-off on the road but can accommodate a handful of cars. If you're familiar with where the parking lot is for the Corona Arch trail, the Jeep Arch trailhead is about a 1/4 mile past it on the right, if traveling from Moab. Rio Grande Gorge // A Chasm in a Volcanic Field Buckeye Drifters 2025-06-12 | In this video we're near the town of Taos, New Mexico. Just a few miles away is the Rio Grande Gorge Visitor Center. We parked there and hiked the 4 mile out and back West Rim Trail. As we walked along the trail we found good vantage points to look down into the 800 ft. deep gorge. On our return trip to the visitor center, we bypassed it and walked out onto the bridge for a breathtaking experience looking at the gorge below. We hope you enjoy the video.
Hike to Wheeler Peak // New Mexicos Tallest Mountain Buckeye Drifters 2025-05-29 | In this video we take you on a journey to the top of New Mexico's highest mountain, Wheeler Peak. Located northeast of Taos, Wheeler Peak tops out at 13,161 feet above sea level. It rests in the Rocky Mountains southernmost subrange, the Sangre De Cristos. The 8.2 mile roundtrip hike took us over 6 hours and while the trail was not technical, the steepness in some sections and the high elevation made it a challenge for us. What a rewarding experience it was.

Valley of Dreams // Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness, NM - King of Wings and Alien Throne Buckeye Drifters 2025-05-01 | Located in northwest New Mexico and known for its unique badland landscape is the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness. The otherworldly rock formations and petrified wood make it a great destination for those who want to get away. We spent 5 hours wandering around the area, seeing virtually nobody and could have easily stayed longer and still not seen it all. If you're looking for an unusual and unforgettable adventure, this place is for you.
Chaco Culture National Historical Park // Ancient Ruins in New Mexico Buckeye Drifters 2025-04-17 | Located in NW New Mexico, Chaco Canyon became a national monument in 1907, a national historic park in 1980 and a world heritage site in 1987. It has some of the best Ancestral Puebloan ruins we've encountered. These great houses were home to thousands of people between 850 and 1250 A.D. In this adventure we hike to Lakes of the Clouds, a 10 mile journey with 2,600 ft. of elevation gain. We decided to take the alternate route going up the Swift Creek Trail to the lakes. Located in Colorado's Wet Mountain Valley near the town of Westcliffe, this hike with 3,000 feet of gain and a rocky trail surface proved to be quite challenging for us. Once we made it to the lake, we relaxed, soaked in the beautiful views and caught a couple of nice sized trout which made the effort all worth it. Hike to Dry Lakes // Colorados Sangre De Cristo Mountains Buckeye Drifters 2025-02-13 | In this video we take you on an 8 mile round trip hike to Dry Lakes in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. With nearly 3,000 feet of vertical gain, AllTrails calls this trail one of the steepest on the eastern side of Colorado's Sangre De Cristo Mountain Range. It turned out to be quite cold and very windy at the lake, but we still managed to enjoy the adventure and even catch some trout.
Hike to Music Pass // Great Sand Dunes National Preserve, Colorado Buckeye Drifters 2025-01-23 | In this video we hike to Music Pass and then beyond to Lower Sand Creek Lake. Music Pass sits at an elevation of 11,380 ft and provides an awe inspiring view of Colorado's Sangre De Cristo mountains. Surprisingly, this hike takes you into the Great Sand Dunes National Preserve as the dunes themselves are located just on the other side of the peaks in front of us. This was a 12 mile adventure with approximately 3,000 ft of elevation gain as we hiked from the 2WD trailhead instead of the 4WD trailhead. Hiking from the 4WD trailhead would have made it around a 7 mile hike. We hope you enjoy the video.

The hike was an easy 6.5 mile adventure with around 700 feet of elevation change. We were camping in Westcliffe Colorado during the month of August and enjoyed a number of hikes into the Sangre De Cristo range of Colorado's Rocky Mountains.

It consists of 22,000 acres of pristine canyons, rivers and backcountry forest in central Colorado between the towns of Buena Vista and Salida. The monument area is a recreationist’s dream with plenty of opportunity to raft, kayak, fish, bike, horseback ride and hike. The Arkansas River is named a gold medal river for its world-class trout fishing and has long been considered the most popular whitewater rafting destination in America. In addition to some great hiking, there's a 23 mile scenic drive providing awe inspiring views of towering red rock spires and gorgeous canyons. Our adventure for the day was hiking to a rock called Liberty Cap. The 5 mile loop provided a good workout as we climbed 1,000 ft. to get to the cap. Isle Royale National Park // Least visited in the lower 48 Buckeye Drifters 2024-09-19 | In this video we show you Isle Royale National Park. This park is only accessed by boat or plane. Departure points are in Michigan and Minnesota (Grand Portage), our departure point. The boat ride was 22 miles and took 1.5 hrs. The day trip allows 4 hours on the island to do whatever you want. We were limited a little due to a thunderstorm but still managed to enjoy the adventure.
Voyageurs National Park // Kabetogama Lake Camping on Sugarbush Island Buckeye Drifters 2024-09-12 | In this video we visit our 46th national park, Voyageurs National Park. We camped 2 nights on Sugarbush Island in the middle of Kabegogama Lake. Fall weather comes early in this part of the country (northern Minnesota) and although it was August, we encountered cool and rainy conditions during our stay. We were the only ones on the island so we enjoyed natures solitude as we relaxed by a campfire, fished and explored the island during our 2 night stay.

Piegan Pass // Glacier National Park Buckeye Drifters 2024-08-16 | In this video we take to you Piegan Pass. From the trailhead at Siyeh Bend, it's a 9 mile round-trip hike with around 1,750 ft of elevation gain. The gain is gradual so the hike is very doable for the average hiker. Even though we were socked in with low clouds for a good portion of our hike, the clouds lifted and we were provided some beautiful views at the pass. We hope you enjoy our video!

The 250 ft. passage opens to a jaw-dropping view of the belly river area including one of the parks glaciers, Old Sun Glacier. Along the way we had a wonderful encounter with some bighorn sheep which helped cap off a memorable adventure.
Highline Trail // Glacier National Park Buckeye Drifters 2024-07-18 | In this video we hike the Highline Trail beginning at Logan Pass. Our intent was to only go as far as Haystack Butte and summit it but we accidentally hiked past it. By the time we turned around and returned to Haystack Butte, and even climbed to its base, we were short on time and had to call it a day. The hike was beautiful and we were lucky to have close encounters with bighorn sheep, muledeer and ptarmigan. We hope you enjoy the video.

The 10 mile, 2,000 ft elevation gain hike has incredible views from start to finish. We did this hike in early August so the wildflowers were abundant and the wildlife treated us to sightings of bighorn sheep and a mountain goat. Sauk Mountain Trail // Washingtons Cascade Mountain Range Buckeye Drifters 2024-03-08 | Just west of North Cascades National Park sits Sauk Mountain. The peak of the 3.7 mile moderately difficult hike provides splendid views of the Cascade Mountain Range. We had a reasonably clear day and could see the massive Mount Rainer and 2 much closer peaks, Mount Baker and Glacier Peak both exceeding 10,000 ft. in elevation. The all uphill trek to Comet Falls follows the beautiful Van Trump Creek which has quite a few smaller yet amazing waterfalls along the way. The destination of the hike was the 320 ft tall Comet Falls. It was magnificent!
