Things I wish I had known becoming a content creator (read description) Rosannatxt 2025-10-03 | I absolutely adore my job, but I also feel like there are so many misconceptions about content creation. These are some hard truths I learned over the past 4 years I wish someone had told me honestly without downplaying it.💜 Not every hobby needs to be turned into content. keep things for yourself to recharge your creative batteries💜 It is really really hard to not let stats get to you because in content creation it’s damn near impossible to split identity and role. You become your own brand so stats can feel as a direct reflection of your identity and worth💜 Every single creator has things going on behind the scenes that are not fun, no matter how much fun they seem to have in their content. Ex. Chasing payments, boundary crossing behaviours from viewers, copyright issues or being objectified to name a few💜 For all of us fulltime: sometimes its hard to have your income directly tied to your creative flow. As we all know creativity generally does not do well under pressure💜 Working as a creator does not mean just playing games and being lazy. Even though I am a gaming creator, of my 50h workweek I only spend about 20 actually gaming. The other 30h go into everything it takes to build a brand, a business and a network💜 Doing content creation as your main source of income requires serious money management. You need to be capable of saving when possible and deal with fluctuating income, paying business taxes and handling many different income streams💜 You cannot do it alone and help on the business side are just as important as friendships in the space. Getting an editor or management is great but don’t forget to make genuine friends who understand the highs and lows of the job.
