Coasting In Japan 2024 - Part 10 Sean Flaharty 2024-09-28 | Part 10 of our journey takes us to one of the most popular amusement parks in Japan; Nagashima Spa Land. While the search for spas showed no results, fear not as there were plenty of rides to be ridden. I opted to not ride as much on this visit to the park to concentrate on recording video and just taking it slower. Having said that, I did get in several rides on two amazing coasters, Steel Dragon and Hakugei, to balance everything out. Our park visits didn't stop there as the next morning we opted to visit Legoland Japan, a park that none of us had visited. We ended the day at the beautiful Nagoya Castle. We started off at Tobu Zoo (my 4th visit) and trying out the new-to-me Regina 2 among other rides. We then moved into Tokyo and visited Tokyo Dome City. This was my first time riding Thunder Dolphin with the newer trains. It made for a more exciting ride. We were also ran into the other fellow American enthusiasts (Larry, Jean, Arnold and Joey) that were continuing their massive trip. Coasting In Japan 2024 - Part 5 Sean Flaharty 2024-08-24 | After spending a day without visiting any amusement parks, the team was back at it and decided to visit Tokyo Disneyland. While Vince and Antony opted to arrive at the park earlier than Marty and I, we all met up later in the day to take one final ride on Splash Mountain. This visit was also important as this would be the very last time any of us would be able to ride Space Mountain. The indoor coaster closed for good on July 31st, just a few weeks after our visit. A new version of Space Mountain is scheduled to open in 2027. We also got to take our first rides on Beauty and the Beast. Collected and released by Amusement Today, the awards presentations is usually held at a different park each year. Steel Hawg - Indiana Beach - June 2009 Sean Flaharty 2024-05-14 | This off-ride video highlights Steel Hawg, the compact prototype coaster, manufactured by S&S and opened at Indiana Beach in Monticello, Indiana in 2006. At one time, Steel Hawg had the steepest drop on any coaster in the world with a first drop taken at a 111-degree angle. Unfortunately, the sky was overcast on the day I recorded this video. Raptor - Cedar Point - October 2005 Sean Flaharty 2024-05-07 | This short off-ride video was recorded in October on Cedar Point's closing day for the 2005 season. Raptor opened on May 7th, 1994 and is one of the few coasters responsible for my coaster "career" as it introduced me to the incredible engineering and ride quality of Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) coasters. The footage in this video was among the very first stuff I recorded with my Sony HDR-HC1 camcorder that I purchased in Japan a month prior. For the 30th anniversary of Raptor, I decided to edit this short video and render it in HDR and 60fps for a smoother and more vivid playback. Superman: Ultimate Escape - Six Flags Ohio - October 2000 Sean Flaharty 2024-03-27 | This video was recorded in October of 2000 during a normal operating park day and one when the park was closed and a commercial shoot took place. We were asked by the park to be extra riders for the shoot. During the shoot, a small remote control helicopter, with an attached camera, zoomed through the loading station and close to the train to get some incredible looking shots. During a break between filming, the staff at the park allowed us to get up close with the train sitting in the station for a few minutes. We were told we could record anything as long as we didn't hit any buttons or mess with the train. The ride wasn't able to operate during this time so we were in no danger. This was recorded during a time when rules were more relaxed than they are today. I wouldn't see a situation when a park would allow that in more recent times. Six Flags Ohio had a bizarre photo and video policy. While they didn't allow anyone to record on rides, which is understandable, there were times when I visited where you weren't allowed to record video inside the queue or in a loading station. I remember a couple times when I was yelled at by park staff for recording Superman while standing on the midway and not in any off-limits area. Just on the main midway. The reason I mention this is because if you listen closely, you can hear a ride operator trying to get my attention by yelling at me while in the station of Superman during a normal operating day. This was the first instance of my encounter with the seemingly made up rule. Anytime it happened to me after this, I would head to guest relations and ask what their policy was. Originally, I wanted to do a quick time lapse of the dispatches for another video many years ago. The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway - Worlds Longest Bridge Over Water - Time Lapse POV Sean Flaharty 2024-03-12 | While I was in Louisiana in March of 2024, I decided to take a quick trip to New Orleans and drive across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, which as of 2024 is still the world's longest bridge continuously over water. I have always been a fan of big bridges. I think my love for roller coasters started when I started learning about bridges and trains. A roller coaster is kind of a mix of both of those. While I have been to New Orleans several times, I have never had the time to drive across the causeway. I fixed that on March 2nd, 2024 by recording this time-lapse POV. Describing Flyer Snapping While Getting A Tattoo - 2010 Sean Flaharty 2024-02-21 | While doing another comb through my archives, I found two hours of footage containing the entire process of getting my first tattoo. During the process, my friend Josh Gardner and I started talking about coasters and amusement parks. The topic of flying scooters (flyers) came up and we tried to explain to my tattoo artist (Dave Tevenal) what flyers actually are and what snapping is. Please keep in mind that this video was recorded in 2010 during a time when more parks encouraged snapping. Due to more recent versions of the ride being produced by a more modern manufacture, snapping isn't as widely accepted as it once was. I had originally made a time-lapse video of the tattoo being done but removed the video years ago due to some music I used in it. Recorded on a Sony HDR-HD1. The blue-tracked coaster, named Hot Wheels Boneshaker: The Ultimate Ride, looks to have all of its track work completed.
