The podcast explores the challenges of understanding how both human consciousness and artificial intelligence systems function, suggesting that our lack of complete comprehension of human thought processes might offer insights into how we approach AI. It posits that, much like with human colleagues whose internal decision-making isn't fully known, our focus on AI should potentially be on the observed output and its effectiveness rather than demanding complete transparency into its internal workings.
It also highlights the inherent unpredictability that exists in both humans and AI, arguing for the implementation of rules and monitoring systems for AI similar to those used to manage human behaviour. Finally we question if interacting with AI systems will be fundamentally different from the ways in which humans already manage interactions with one another despite not fully understanding each other's internal processes.
