"Do not leave your house except for something necessary, and do not sit in a gathering where you gain no beneficial knowledge."
— Tarteeb Al-Madaarik wa Taqreeb Al-Masaalik, 2/632, by Qadi 'Iyad (d. 544 AH)
In this video, I’m sharing some thoughts while getting in one of my weekly workouts at home.
I just hit a PR on the incline bench, but more than that, I’ve been reflecting on the long-term benefits of having a home gym.
Yes, it cost me around $5,000 to set up, but what I’ve saved in time, distractions, and energy has been worth every penny.
I talk about how, instead of spending hours commuting to and from a public gym, I can get my workout done in minutes, go straight back to work, and stay productive.
Imam Malik’s advice to minimize unnecessary trips outside comes to mind, and I realize how much time and potential sins we avoid by cutting out distractions like social media, public environments, and even that tempting fast food spot we pass by every day.
I dive into why time, mind clarity, and energy are the most valuable things I ask from Allah. I’ve found that by simplifying my life and removing distractions, I can stay more focused on my goals—both in this life and for the akhirah.
If you’ve been thinking about how to be more productive or looking for ways to improve your time management, this video is for you.
It’s all about thinking long-term, investing in what really matters, and staying focused on the things that will bring you closer to Allah.Wake Up and CONQUER Your Nafs Every MorningMuhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-19 | ...Seeking Knowledge Over Everything Else is the Key to Success!Muhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-18 | Start Learning Arabic Here: andalusinstitute.com/webinar-yt

Abundant wealth isn't always a Blessing - Allah knows what we need and when we need it.
True contentment comes from knowing that whatever Allah gives or withholds is for our own good.
The real test is gratitude and humility, not in abundance, but in moderation.

Follow the institute on Instagram: @the.andalusinstituteWhat I Learned from Asking My Shaykh the WRONG QuestionsMuhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-07 | Start Learning Arabic Here: andalusinstitute.com/webinar-yt - In this video, I share one of the most valuable lessons I learned early in my journey of seeking knowledge: how to ask your shaykh or teacher questions with proper etiquette. I recount an embarrassing experience I had when I asked my first shaykh a poorly phrased question in Arabic. It taught me that asking questions isn't just about getting answers-it's about being considerate of the shaykh's time and respecting their role as a teacher.
Here's the key: preparation. Before you ask, write down your question. Avoid adding unnecessary details about your personal experience-just get straight to the point. This simple approach not only saves time but also helps you gain more respect from your teacher.
I also dive into the wisdom I gained from scholars and books. One of the most impactful ideas I came across is that learning adab (manners and etiquette) is crucial-often even more important than the answers you seek. A well-mannered student is a pleasure for any teacher to guide, and this relationship makes the learning experience more meaningful for both sides.
If you're serious about learning and want to grow in your studies, learning how to ask questions the right way is essential. In this video, I'll share how this small change can transform your relationship with your shaykh and your journey of seeking knowledge.

Follow the institute on Instagram: @the.andalusinstituteWhy Your Iman Feels Stronger Than Ever When You Start PracticingMuhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-04 | Why does your Iman feel unbreakable when you first start practicing Islam?
That honeymoon phase.
You know what I mean—that peak level of faith when everything feels right, and you’re motivated to do it all.
But as time goes on, life happens.
Your faith, your worship, starts to feel automatic.
In this video, I dive into why that happens.
I share my personal journey—from the intense drive to seek knowledge and my travels to Egypt and Mauritania, to the distractions of dunya that slowly creep in.
We explore what happens when that initial surge of Iman fades.
Is it just life?
Responsibilities?
And most importantly—how do we bring that feeling back?
Join me in reflecting on this journey and let’s discuss how to sustain that powerful connection with Allah, even in the midst of life’s demands.
-
00:00 - Introduction - I start by discussing why our Iman feels so strong at the beginning when we start practicing Islam.
00:12 - Unbreakable Iman at the Beginning - I talk about how, in the beginning, your Iman feels unbreakable, so powerful and unshakable, especially when you first start practicing or after reverting.
00:38 - The "Honeymoon Phase" of Iman - I compare this early stage to a “honeymoon phase” of your faith, where worship feels light and easy, and you want to do everything.
01:24 - Worship Becomes Routine - Over time, though, I mention how worship can become more automatic, like a routine, where you’re just going through the motions.
02:30 - Decline in Effort and Engagement - I reflect on how, as time goes on, we may start listening to fewer lectures, hang out less with the same religious company, and overall put in less effort than we did at the beginning.
03:40 - The Fear of Practicing Correctly - I bring up how, in the early stages, there’s often a fear of wanting to make sure you're practicing Islam correctly, and how that can lead to being extra cautious.
04:40 - Peak Levels of Iman and the Drive for Knowledge - I describe the peak levels of Iman that drive you to take big steps, like seeking knowledge, traveling, and making sacrifices because all you want is to learn.
05:50 - What Happens When Iman Declines? - I then ask what happens when that intense level of Iman starts to fade and why we don't feel as motivated as we once did.
06:40 - Responsibilities Take Over - I talk about how, over time, life’s responsibilities — like work, family, and other commitments — take over, making it harder to maintain the same level of focus on seeking knowledge.
08:00 - Learning Before Responsibilities - I share advice from scholars about learning before you take on major responsibilities because once you have them, it becomes much harder to dedicate yourself to learning.
09:00 - The First Stage of Decline - I explain how some people end up reminiscing about the strong Iman they had in the beginning but don’t really make an effort to get it back. They just accept mediocrity in their faith.
10:00 - The Second Stage of Decline - Then, I talk about others, like myself, who acknowledge the decline and sometimes try to recapture that high level of Iman by taking steps like going on trips to study or focus on worship.
11:30 - The Third Stage: Total Devotion - I also mention those rare individuals who completely devote themselves to knowledge, living in remote places like Mauritania, fully immersed in their faith for years.
12:20 - The Risk of Losing Iman - I warn about the danger of becoming arrogant in your faith, thinking you’re better than others, and how that can lead to losing your Iman completely, which is something I’ve seen happen.
13:15 - Final Reflections - Finally, I leave the audience with a question to think about: Why does that peak level of Iman fade over time, and what can we do to keep it going consistently throughout our lives?Never Stop Learning: The Power of Knowledge at Any AgeMuhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-03 | ...Why You Don’t Need the Perfect Environment to SucceedMuhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-03 | In this video, I dive deep into a concept I'm passionate about: environment design-how your surroundings shape your habits.
I reflect on how I procrastinated in the past, waiting for the "right" moment, the "right" place, the "right" conditions to start something important.
But then I realized it's all in the mind.
Whether it's waiting to be accepted to Medina University or thinking I can only recite the Qur'an in Mauritania, the truth is, those tasks aren't tied to a place.
It's about just starting.
I explore the feelings that hold us back-stress, guilt, and waiting for the perfect situation.
In reality, the hardest part is just beginning, no matter where you are.
It's not about perfection.
It's about doing the thing.
If you've ever struggled with procrastination or felt like you're waiting for the right moment, this video is for you.
00:00 - Introduction
Beginning thoughts on a subject related to environment design and habit formation. 00:14 - Environment Design

Acknowledging how the environment can either positively or negatively affect performance and discipline. 06:42 - Islamic Hadith on Environment
Referencing the Hadith about the man who k*lled 99 people and how changing one’s environment can help protect their deen. 08:05 - Emotional Ups and Downs

Explaining how stress builds up when tasks are postponed, believing they can only be done in a particular place or situation. 12:42 - Overcoming Procrastination
Encouraging action despite environmental limitations, stating that the hardest part is starting, and it’s often easier than anticipated. 13:10 - Final Thoughts
Expressing appreciation for the audience’s comments and reflecting on the value of interaction. The Move That Could Change Your Life ForeverMuhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-03 | ...Why Islam Values Knowledge So HighlyMuhammad Al Andalusi2024-10-02 | In this video, I reflect on the journey of seeking knowledge.
I talk about different kinds of people: those fully immersed in seeking knowledge.
Those who have experienced it but moved away.
And those who admire it, but have never truly lived it.
I share my personal story from Egypt, where I was learning full-time, stressing over rent but with my Iman at its peak.
Now, after making a million dollars in a year, I realize I don't want that lifestyle again.
I'd rather make enough to live and dedicate more time to seeking knowledge.
I also explore how balancing financial stability with the pursuit of knowledge is key to a fulfilling life.
If you're a student of knowledge or someone seeking more, this video is for you.
00:00 - Introduction - Personal reflection and introduction to the topic of seeking knowledge.
01:30 - Analyzing the Audience - Discussing the analysis of the students and their engagement at the Institute.

05:12 - Immersed in Knowledge - Describing individuals who are deeply involved in their studies, sometimes to the point of neglecting personal matters.
06:36 - Experiencing the Lifestyle - Discussing those who have lived the knowledge-seeking lifestyle but are no longer fully immersed.

13:44 - Communities in the West - Mentioning that certain communities in the West can offer environments conducive to seeking knowledge.

Uncertainty.
Frustration.
Feeling unfulfilled.
This is what I’ve been experiencing while working on something special for you, and it’s been a recurring theme over the past five years with Andalus Institute.
I talk about why I tend to focus on what’s wrong rather than what’s going well.
I set a release date for the project, but I might need to push it back.
Why?
Because perfection takes time.
More editing.
More attention to detail.
This video is a reflection of my current state—feeling a little down, but pushing through.
And it’s a reminder to keep working, even when you don’t see the results right away.
In the end, the question is, when is the job really done?
00:00 - Introduction - Recording thoughts and emotions about uncertainty during the process of creation.
00:21 - Going Through Uncertainty - Expressing feelings of unhappiness and unfulfillment that often accompany the creative process.
00:50 - The Ongoing Process of Creation - Reflecting on the emotional challenges faced while building something, referencing the past five years with the Institute.
01:38 - Focus on the Negative to Improve - Discussing the habit of focusing on problems in order to fix them, rather than focusing on what’s already working.
02:39 - Preparing Something Big - Sharing that the speaker is working on something for the audience and is deeply focused on it, even recording from an iPad instead of a phone.
03:50 - Setting a Date for the Project - Revealing that a date has been set for the project’s release, but feeling it may need to be delayed to ensure quality.
04:40 - Adjusting Plans and Delays - Reflecting on the need to potentially push the project by a month to allow more time for editing and meticulous preparation.
05:57 - Recording as a Way to Reflect - Explaining that the recording serves as a reflection point, hoping to look back and feel a sense of accomplishment once the work is done.
07:03 - Dopamine and the Belief System - Discussing the concept of dopamine release upon completing work and how it strengthens the belief in future successes.
07:56 - Pushing Through to Completion - Reflecting on how working through uncertainty, despite not seeing immediate results, will eventually lead to fulfillment.
