My grandson loves being in the woodshop with me, and today he prepared an area in the workshop for his kid's workbench, doing the masking up and painting the wall with a small paint roller, at just a touch over 4 years old, he does this easy.
I am a big believer in getting kids to do some hands-on projects in the woodshop, and if we can make it enjoyable for them, they will learn many skills and gain a lot of confidence for their future, maybe even get the passion to learn a trade when they grow up.
He has a new pair of kids' earmuffs which he has hung on the wall next to his bench, and likes wearing them, which is a very big positive when working with kids.
He loves being in the workshop and helping me, and I love having him there; we have a lot of fun.
I think that having a nice little work area of his own to play in and do little kids' wood projects with wood and white packing foam, he can now make as much mess as he wants.
