I guess there'll be no void worm boss battle anytime soon.
The new void endings give a lot to think about. Obviously there is no way to know exactly what is "correct," but I will share some interpretations below...
For Artificer's ending, I'm not really convinced that she became an echo as many community members seem to believe. I think that would be antithetical to her journey in the first place of finding all the echoes. If the player chooses to find the echoes, they actively forgo seeking revenge, and instead dedicate themselves to the more difficult path of enlightenment. I think this demonstrates Artificer's will to move on and let go of her anger, which binds her to this world. I think this is reflected in the ending. After seeing her pups again one final time, it was enough for Artificer to finally let go of them and leave this world behind.
For Saint's ending... my favorite interpretation is that they committed the very worst sin of ego-- far beyond that of the worldly attachment the echoes have. That sin was in their belief that they were above the cycle itself. That they were this higher being, capable of working outside the cycle, who would bring an end to it all... When in fact, in the end, Saint was never special at all, and that ego is what led to their eternal damnation. When they attacked the void worm, they clearly did so without thought of the consequences; Saint believed they were above the void worms and anything the void itself could possibly do against them. But they were wrong, in the end. In the end, Saint was just like everyone else, and their god-like ego held them back. To ascend, it seems, everyone must submit to the void and let go of their ego, and there is no higher being or action taken that is capable of bypassing that.
In this way, Saint embodies the triple affirmative and all of the problems surrounding it; Saint is the epitome of all of the incorrect ways the ancients viewed ascension. They were egotistical in believing that there was any other way to ascend, any secret path aside from letting go of yourself and the world to leave it all behind. Although I don't necessarily think that Saint *is* the triple affirmative, as the age of the iterators has clearly passed, I think they represent it symbolically and why it could never be achieved.
This obviously doesn't explain how Saint ended up in their cursed time donut in the first place... To that, I say there doesn't exactly need to be a "beginning" to this cycle they are in. There isn't exactly any point on a ring where you'd say it begins, is there? At the moment I do not feel that there is any sufficient evidence to say exactly how it all started, if it even did at all. I do not think the challenge mode bossfight with SOS should be interpreted as canon, just like the rest of the challenges.
Moon and Pebbles allude to none of it being real at all several times in their dialogue, so that is really the best clue we have to go off of. This is supported by the very fact that Saint gets their ascension powers at all. One interpretation I saw was that these ascension powers are not real, but instead represent Saint's wish to help others ascend. Another interpretation is that Saint is a martyr of sorts, here to help everyone ascend but incapable of it themselves. Perhaps, each time Saint cycles back to the Windswept Spires, they have "eliminated" yet another reality from the infinite set of realities that make up the universe of Rain World, and by eventually eliminating all of them, the great cycle can finally, mercifully, end.
These are just interpretations I wanted to share, though. Do not take them as fact.

I started editing this video in August of 2021 (though the recording was from even earlier than that) and then lost motivation to continue it for several months. It was intended to be a series type of thing, with one video dedicated to each challenge that I'd completed. This would have been the video for the pilgrimage challenge.
I think I wanted to scrap it and restart or something, though I never did get around to doing that because it's very hard to just restart something that took several days (weeks?) to make. So the video kind of just sat in my folder forgotten until a few months later when more challenges were added to the discord lol.................... then I really lost my will to finish it since it would have been such a long series if I did all of them. So now, almost a year later than I'd intended to release it, here's this I guess!!!!!!!
also dragonslayer (yes it's a real mod we're working on getting a community projects page soon) has a discord: discord.com/invite/yRvyn4aNQs
mods used:
candycane spears by sov_sam and lbgamer
downpour by leemoriya (github.com/LeeMoriya/Downpour)
festiveworld by slime_cubed (drive.google.com/file/d/16LL8HDqHYDTMVEnbTOyg68cgm1VTIzLB/view)
and a dumb edit I made to turn the green neuron into a present
I'm not really sure what else there is to say but for those interested there is now a discord server for Dragonslayer: discord.gg/A9vX9Pp5h8
Basically, I got a bunch of people to FIGHT to the DEATH in a custom rain world map!!!!! The results were kind of a mess. This was all a mess. But it was fun.
The mod being used that lets us all play together is called monkland. It is very finicky and unfinished, with only spears and players being synced, so use it at your own risk: github.com/Dracentis/Monkland/releases
To get this to work, everyone had to install a special custom map consisting of vanilla, unused, and modded rooms, which were graciously given to me to add in. There were absolutely no creature spawns, because each person would get their own version of the creatures that nobody else could see or interact with. They would just be a distraction unfortunately. There was no way to truly track kills and remove people when they died, so it was down to honor that you'd leave if you got eliminated in any fashion. That kind of limits it to small groups of mutuals like this.
Everyone did really well and I am very happy to have facilitated this :)
Also voice reveal :o (though it might be a little hard to tell which one I actually am.) ((kinda hard to tell who anyone is at times)) (((please be nice)))
I plan to try again with some key changes, most important of which are not reviving moon anymore, going through Underhang for the orange kill, and changing the "echo shenanigan shelter" to be in Industrial Complex.

You would not believe how good cyans are at killing themselves (and me as well, they bit me quite often). They need a lot of babysitting.
I don't really know what else to say. I think I have gone numb with the tedium of dragging these mindless beasts around. I don't know how much recording there was but it was a lot! Possibly more than my entire Drought run! I'm a little disappointed that I had to use devtools at some parts.
It should be noted that I used a mod that makes cyans ignore each other.
This place is so scary... The platforming reaches a level not previously exploited by the base game, and the region utilizes vanilla mechanics to the most powerful and unique extent it can. The region is much more than just levels!
I've eagerly watched the progress of Aether Ridge and waited in all the time that it took to release, and I have to say I was not disappointed one bit. The levels themselves reach an amount of detail sometimes beyond the vanilla game, and provide a lot of challenge in platforming that had me on edge constantly.
The one thing I did not really like was the amount of inaccessible pipes that tantalized me, though you could just use the vanilla theme of "this world was not made for you" to explain that.
Overall I feel like Aether Ridge had been given many things by vanilla, and chose to forward them in all the ways the base game couldn't have (because of it being too difficult for new players etc).
With there being so many rooms (200!!!!!) I could not get to everywhere in this video, so definitely try out the mod to see it all.
I had to edit out a mountain of attempts, this run was pain it was horrible don't try this at home it's all luck based. Sky Islands was particularly painful. Being launched out of pipes in random directions + death pits everywhere = sadness! Who knew!
Here's a video that explains the bug used a bit more in-depth and also has it a bit more clearly shown: youtube.com/watch?v=SbB8RRs0AZA&feature=youtu.be
There's some missing punctuation and a few funny mistakes and duplicate dialogues which will be fixed later on. Also there's some fundamental things I don't like about the lore but those can't really be fixed because they're so at-the-root of the mod, so no point in bashing it.
Pebbles are moon were very mean to me. ): They would consistently bump into me and then start yelling at ME, as if *I* were the nuisance!
Here's the link to the song I used at the end: xenorocket.bandcamp.com/track/sundown-cover
Not really sure what happened with getting stunned and hit with something at the end in the void sea. In a later run where I visited LTTM first, something a little different happened, but it really didn't answer any of my questions. Also, losing the tail stripes is super odd and I can't think of what it might mean. It's been confirmed to have meaning of some sort...
I hope I made someone out there mad by ascending on cycle 68 instead of 69.
The Root has been completely redone in an extremely short amount of time but it's epic anyway! You can really see the improvements that came from a year of working on MSC. It's very different from the old root (and a bit less rotted) but a few rooms were kept pretty much the same which was nice.
While the previous iteration of it was pretty wild, this one could have been just a regular vanilla region, though a little bit more dynamic than vanilla regions usually are.
I didn't intend for this to be 30 minutes, it took a bit longer to put together than I expected...
Also thumbnail pending (maybe)
The climb up the leg was surprisingly brutal. Mostly because I didn't have a very good grip on the ability and was too stubborn to get a grub though. It was also a much quieter exploring this time.
I kind of wonder how moon's functioning with so much of her complex being so damaged, with the gravity going down and stuff. I guess there's the rest of her city-size complex that's probably fine though. It gave me quite a scare when I first arrived, I didn't think the mod would include her, uh, death, but really reconsidered it upon seeing the broken gravity and weird sparks. (Also sidenote apparently the pearl I took to her from Fractured Exterior is not supposed to be empty?)
Anyway it was pretty cool to run around in Moon's complex, see the rooms before they were destroyed and overgrown. I especially liked the funny room with the sunlight. It is often easy to forget that Moon is much, much more than just five rooms. Or was, anyway.
Mostly because of jetfish not cooperating though.
But aside from that I think it is my favorite region in the mod anyway, the design is extremely creative and there were lots of surprises. The environment became as much of a hazard and enabler as the creatures did, you had to learn to adjust to it and not jump in the water when it was lowering...
The new shoreline rooms were also really cool, an addition that didn't really have to be added but was anyway!
Drakes are also really scary and I am thankful I was completely blind upon first seeing them...
SPOILERS BELOW
I found playing the game to be very challenging at certain parts (especially later on), which was pretty nice. The ability also takes a long time to master, I wasn't able to use it to its fullest extent until my second run, but it's super fun when you learn it.
Apparently I got very lucky with Forest Sanctuary. Most were unfortunate enough to be crowded with long dogs and killed. I'd say the long dogs are the scariest creature but there are definitely scarier things... out there.... in this mod.... That aside, they're kind of cute in a way. Surreal, cute, scary, fidgety little things. They definitely spiced up Farm Arrays a bit and made Forest Sanctuary not a place of refuge or safety.
The whole pebbles surprise thing was also cool, it's not an approach I would have expected. You get used to meeting him for the first time and then suddenly you've already talked to him, it's implied you've talked to him many times! And he's also not irritated with your existence!
I often find myself running away from scavengers, no matter if they're friends or foes.
Here's the original clip: youtu.be/KbQDP0eYzHk
And the thumbnail art was done by shigureru2 (deviantart.com/shigureru2)
All jokes aside this mod was made by FIIIIIISH and it's very epic! I recommend playing it before watching. You can find it on RainDB.
I found this quite a bit easier than the root and I suspect it's due to enemy spawns. I do like how the spawns were pretty chill though, it really let you run around and explore. Also, those two reds being placed was a good idea. Quite a spicy addition to what would have been regular parkour rooms. This certainly isn't to say all the other rooms weren't marvelous and fun to navigate though! The detail is astounding and I wanted to put all the rooms that were visited in the video, even if it was only briefly.
There is a reason not many of these region mods get released, it's because the level editor is an eldritch creation and very few have the patience to tame it, and much less continue to work with it for so long. Props to FIIIIIISH!
Anyway this is my own mod! It's very challenging, because now you have to run away from literally everything. Approaching most passive creatures is usually more dangerous than actual predators. It will be released soon™ (partiality this time too!)
Music: youtu.be/89C6Uh82rl8
Some things were omitted so they can be found on their own.
Everything aside, I do find this a little bit funny.
It is much harder to control than it looks. You often have to aim while running, and with how sensitive the aiming direction is and most often a fast moving moving target this is of course disastrous.
But I did get a few lucky shots.
When I first saw this mod the mobility aspect of it was what intrigued me most, I imagined being able to grapple using the tusks. Unfortunately whichever one is retracted first seems random, so they are not very reliable for grappling. In time spears started to become seemingly more reliable. This is not to say it wasn't fun fighting kings with their own weapons though!
This could all just be because I am new to using the mod and therefore bad at it etc but for now I feel like the main weakness is just not being able to hit targets unless they are directly above you or to the side, unless you get lucky.
This took approximately 7 hours to edit and I did it all in one day because I had a super busy week and couldn't play brain world for 5 days and then procrastinated on my finite free days because I didn't think it would take so long hence the 4 AM upload! Enjoy!
hhh
Also yeah some of these are hurricane lizards but I'd honestly consider version 1.5 red lizards more unfair than them.
Here's the music, it's my favorite in the alphas gems and junk album: youtu.be/iuzXHi9dRjM
Unfortunately the only name it goes by is RW_3 ):
Also congrations guys we done it we reached 2k subs I am so proud of this community!!!!!!!!
This also took much more time than it should have ): From white lizards at the wall to the squidcada not complying to just not having bats spawn at all, what I expected to be a one-shot and maybe two-shot run if I messed up ended up taking like 5 attempts and a ton of weird preparations.
The illustrations were the most fun part of this video, I might do more in the future if applicable.
...It's not really. I think if the scavengers didn't pester me so much it could have been a sub 23, there's a lot of stuff that could have been done to make this faster but I'm ok with this being a start.
Also, not quite sure what the 8 deaths was about...
I stayed up until 2 AM editing this...
I kept forgetting to upload this so here it is weeks after I made it...
They are pupas!
(They're not that either)
Will we ever know what these cursed objects are?
I found the little comment in the industrial complex pearl about some community members having a hard time with doors very, very amusing.
A few of my favorite quotes:
"Five mosquitoes: you can not be disappointed. Delete all of you."
"Of course, it looks like he can force your pet to perish. It is our lawyer at all times."
"Skin disease design and planning ..."
"Do you know what your life looks like? Of course you are talking now!"
"A lot of showers might have appeared out of your bed, so a little support might be good."
"Enjoy slang button!"
"Yes, you don't get your unit unit."
"You do not need a bath, I want a bath."
"Until then, the unusual rhomboid whale fluid."
"when he was finished, he could eat any creature like food."
"FP: I accept the drunkenness."
"Uh! I do not really need contradiction!"
Also, I did not include all of the Sky Islands pearls because it was very tedious to start a new save and collect them again and again hoping to get a new dialogue (there are 2 pearls and 5 potential dialogues that can be picked from a pool, so you end up having to do several runs to get them all) so here are the ones not shown:
[Old log log it. I see it, but I can't think of it. Let me read it:
"1650,800 - 5 private bricks, wind chases, extreme crazy moon, significant harassment
CW: Of course, it seems that this is reflected with the ideas that arise personally from the unique Slivist conversation “Erratic Pulse”, it seems. Someone in our neighborhood looks at us.
CE: You want this?
I wish you every success in that endeavor. How does it happen? Until the stewards are interfering with the whole sea, \ t
BSM: Talk about the quiet sea. The gray wind, where did you hear this?
CW: Do not really say that. He wants some kind of breeding program. You may want to know.
NSH: Huh, hat and bitter? The answer is that the answer was a lizard helmet.
CW: Well, it is, unlike us, after his work has changed, so who knows who?
BSM: I will get it and I will discuss it. Don't go around!
NSH: Get the Moon! This test will last long! "]
[I am writing to the local observation team. I do not remember this ...
"1654.110 - The great group of provincial Land
BSM: About two weeks ago, about two weeks ago my water consumption increased four times more than normal. It's irresponsible for a long time. We both shared groundwater, and I was without a cycle.
BSM: No effort was made to communicate, and my case was even more dangerous.
BSM: When you can contact him, try to use those communication channels to communicate again until you receive a response again. This will be clear to me - if I convince myself to stop what is happening, I will die.
BSM: Before I do that, I will necessarily communicate with my seniority privilege. Of course, network communication will be unpleasant for everyone. I'm as close as possible before I go to that option. "
Now I'm here, my gesture and usually by swinging.]
Well, for a first level I don't think I did half bad!
Here is the place where the community region project is being hosted, I think it is too late to apply anymore though. discord.gg/rainworld
Using moodmod by topicular, it's pretty neat but I think I prefer vanilla palettes. I feel clumsy in the dark!
Now they only float
I've always wanted this.
Very scary run. One death could end it all and that's kind of a heavy thing to carry around. The sickness was not as much of a burden as this thought was, because I tended to rest in places where food was near and it could go away. Filtration was by far the scariest place.
I don't remember how many attempts I did at this, but if I were to guess, I'd say 60-70. Most ended at farm arrays because vultures would fly away and I'd be left without spears etc, but then the other attempts where I did get far tended to end because of scavengers.
Also technically a deathless hunter run, woo
Moon was actually quite a bit more entertaining in my opinion, even though pebbles was the one I originally had in mind for duplicating.
Also I was doing a very difficult run all week and underestimated how long it would take me, so I ended up just doing that run and failing and not really making anything... ;w;
I did not know they went so out of the way to avoid slugcat and other creatures, they even do this for iggy. The fact that they also die to gas apples and such is really cool.
Also my computer recently died!
Walljumps are terrible with a jetfish and there happens to be a three screened room of almost completely walljumps on the only path to the rest of Drainage so... I ended up going around to Outskirts after this realization.
First he is harassed by jetfish who steal his drowning repellent, then a leviathan gets stuck on the other side of the tower, forcing him to swim to the surface on the other side, where two vultures ambush him as he continues to be harassed by jetfish and is quite literally drowning.
Also is it just me or did the jetfish swim much slower than usual?
I meant to upload this the day before yesterday but then I got stranded at a weird hotel with no internet...
This is not a good thing in hindsight... The top of the void sea is most especially broken when it comes to the big worms.
As the martyr you can infinitely slide and roll as long as the ability does not run out and you have flat land to go across. In vanilla there is a special slide you can do by throwing something behind you that makes you quicker. Combine these two and you get a very fast nyoom ahead.
martyr was made by a bunch of people and one of those people is Empathy Module
Anyway use this method only if you're an epic gamer.
Also sorry it's not really a gameplay video, I haven't had many ideas lately.
Five Pebbles is constantly setting the palette in his room, so things that have a random color value are also constantly getting their colors changed... I made quite a few things have a random color value.
I didn't play spearmaster ):
I remembered this now of course, you need to meet Five Pebbles or moon for the scholar to work.
haha oops
Also using artificer's ability is really hard, it took like an hour to get used to/ be able to do consistently :c
Rain World is actually middle school, that is why it's so difficult.
Was far easier than hurricane mod, basically the only thing that made it harder than a regular survivor run was the getting instakilled by bites (which were usually easy to avoid because of the tongue being amazing). The no spears thing kept me pretty on edge because typically when I have a spear I consider myself safe, and it's impossible to have one as the saint.
By the way this is still version 1.01, the updated version of the mod is still in development and it is going to be awesome.
I think the biggest thing that made saint seem difficult was the losing all karma thing...
