Patch 2.22
Patch 2.22
Yet Charles Martel gathers the disheartened Frankish army for one last stand at the city of Tours.
Arabic horses, bred for speed and beauty, begin to splash across the Vienne River. Martel's knights and swordsmen, trudging under the weight of iron mail, struggle to interpose themselves between the Muslims and the city of Tours.
Carrion birds circle the air, anticipating the savagery to come. The rest of Europe watches anxiously, for this is the climax of the Muslim invasion and the last stand of Christian Europe."
In 1618, tension between Catholics and Protestants had reached the top, and Europe broke out with a war later called the Thirty Years' War. France of that time was a feudal state with an army that could not fight back foreign menaces, thus a war threatened with conquest and devastation.
After joining the French Army in the rank of an officer, you will take part in the grandiose events that will entail formation of the National army and establishment of a centralized French state. Within 20 years France will endure bloody wars for repartition of Europe and become one of the most powerful and influential states of the Old World.
Patch 2.22
After the exhausting war against Austria and its allies, France faced a new ordeal. Tension between the French nobles and the King finally came to the surface after twenty years of smoldering. The nobility objected to Richelieu's economic and social reforms, repudiated the supreme power of the King and regarded him as equal among equals. Some noblemen even refused public service and hatched plots against the government. Malcontent nobles assembled their troops and stirred up a rebellion later known as the Fronde. Forces loyal to the King advanced to suppress the riot.
You have received the King's directive:
"Colonel,
You are one of our most experienced commanders. Many times yo have put your own life in jeopardy for the sake of France and proved your loyalty to your King. We are assigning you to lead our faithful troops and to eradicate the bad-temper nobles. Proceed to the south of France and squelch these presumptuous scoundrels who are a disgrace to their noble title.
King Louis XIV"

Patch 2.22
France and its allies scored new triumphs in the war for four years. In March 1648, the French army crossed the Rhine and met the Swedes in Francony. The combined forces ferried over the Main river and progressed to Bohemia. The Imperial Bavarian army retreated to the Danube without showing resistance and regrouped in a well-fortified camp at Zusmarshausen. It was time to deliver the decisive blow which, if successful, could result in the capitulation of Austria and its allies.
Finish Core once and for all! March your Commander to the top of the Core Command Dome.
PRIORITY CRITICAL
Central Consciousness is ours! The Core brain is ours. There is one final blow to strike. We have Core's brain, now we must destroy its heart. We must control Core's Command Dome in order to finish this forever.
INFO FEED
All that is left of the Core Empire has assembled in defense of the Command Dome. Core's Commander is certain to be there. Destroy their Commander. Destroy every last Core unit. Remember, even one Core mind left sentient may be enough to begin Core anew. Scour thoroughly Commander!
Stand at the top of the Command Dome Commander. Finish it.
Patch 2.22
French forces triumphed over the Spanish army in the Battle of Rocroi, and the French gained a serious tactical advantage. A new message from your headquarters:
"Colonel,
Parts of the Spanish army are still here and will terrorize the whole neighborhood unless we intervene. Your mission is to wipe out the remnants of the Spanish army."
Take control of the dome at Central Plaza.
PRIORITY
We have found the Central Consciousness that directs the Core War machine. It lies beneath the huge dome at Central Plaza. Destroy the guard garrison stationed there and take the dome. When we control Central Consciousness, Core will surely be weakened sufficiently for Arm to secure the final victory!
INFO FEED
There are several entrances to the Central Plaza. Expect all of them to be well guarded. Expect the dome to be extraordinarily well guarded as well. Core defenses will be savage. You must be equally savage Commander.
Commander, you must stand at the top of the dome.
Patch 2.22
This year, the Spanish army (comprising 20,000 infantry units, 8,000 cavalry units and 30 cannons) under the command of Melas has won several battles, approached the northern borders of France and besieged the fortress of Rocroi. The French forces (16,000 infantry units, 7,000 cavalry units, 12 cannons) led by Prince Condes are advancing towards the fortress to assist the garrison. This battle is of great importance: If the French can cope with the Spanish army, the war will rapidly approach its turning point. Your squad will join the vanguard. Here is a dispatch from your commander:
"Colonel,
I make no secret of the fact that this battle at Rocroi is vital for France. Your forces are inferior to the Spanish. In this event, our success will be a result of precise planning - and probably of fortune, too. For the time being, our headquarters need more information on the enemy. I order you to reconnoitre enemy positions and cause damage to their supply lines if possible."
Push across the polluted waters to the Core port beyond. Destroy the port facilities and all Core units...
PRIORITY
Across Aqueous Body 397 is Port Complex .016. Build sufficient units to cross the oily waters and destroy any fortifications that you find at the Port. Our final push to Central Consciousness will then begin.
INFO FEED
The entrance to Port .016 is sure to be guarded - and we have lost the element of surprise. Core is certain to be ready for your assault. Losses will be heavy.
The thoughts of all Empyrrean are with you Commander.
Patch 2.22
The new year has brought no changes to the course of action. The French army is slowly driving the German forces back, but is sustaining heavy losses. The most important events took place in Belgium, near the Arras fortress. French forces under the command of Prince Condes strove to seize the citadel, but had to crush major Imperial forces first. You receive a new directive from your commander:
"Colonel,
At present, well-fortified Imperial lines are covering all strategic positions along the approach to the fortress. The battle plan comprises two parts. First of all, we must drive the enemy from the hills and gain a foothold there. If we succeed, we will obtain tactical advantages and a better chance of triumph. To do this, we ill simulate an offensive to distract the enemy's major forces. At the same time, two squads should attack the hills from east and west. Colonel, considering your experience, I am assigning you to lead the eastern assault squad. I have every faith in you and trust you will not fail me at this crucial moment."
Destroy the energy storage depot.
PRIORITY
Core has a huge energy complex located at Coordinates 6551:447. Much of the power that Core depends upon to defend its homeworld can be found there. We must destroy that energy depot. It is hoped that the destruction of this complex will sufficiently weaken the Core's Central Consciousness that Arm shall prevail.
INFO FEED
The energy depot consists of numerous energy gathering and storage structures across the sewage canals to the north. Cross over the canals and destroy them all.
Patch 2.22
The time France spent preparing for the war and reforming the army was not wasted. Despite a large number of mercenaries remaining in the French army, France is now able to successfully hold back the hardy Imperial army. French generals have been successful in last year's campaign and managed to not only recapture native lands but also to move the battleground towards enemy territory. Due to the progress of its army, France has gained new allies: the Netherlands, Mantua, Venice and Savoy. Major operations have shifted to Italian and Spanish territories. After numerous battles, France finally managed to press the numerically superior enemy. Germany, drained by the long war, is running low on manpower, but is a strong enemy, nevertheless. You receive new orders from your commander:
"Colonel,
The latest developments at the front are favourable to France. Our intensive assaults have deprived the enemy of the time he needs to regroup and recover. Your new mission is vital to the whole offensive. I order you and your regiment to advance to the east and capture the fortress. It is the key stronghold of the northern Spanish territories. The Imperial garrison is quite strong and fully capable of counterattacking. Assaulting the fortress without artillery is unthinkable, thus I am assigning several batteries to your regiment."
Destroy all Core units in the area. Establish a secure foothold on Core Prime.
PRIORITY CRITICAL
Establish a base as quickly as possible, to defend against counter attacks. Then scour the area for any remaining Core units. We will use this beginning to bring about Core's ending!
INFO FEED
Core Prime is a world encased in metal. A metal extractor will extract metal wherever it is placed. Metal should not be a problem, Core resistance will be! Move swiftly to eliminate all Core units, plants, and labs.
Patch 2.22
The Imperial Army had been fighting the French for several months. Under pressure from the Imperial forces, the French army retreated to Metz, where bloody battles ensued. The King and the Cardinal received the bad news that Austria had gained a new ally: Spain and its army, which was already heading for the French border.
The war brought destruction and misery, devastating the territories where military operations took place. It was obvious to the French commanders that, in order to achieve a turning point, they would have to establish bases, recover captured French regions and shift the centre of operations to enemy territory. The French forces often demonstrated true heroism. French Colonel Turenne and his small squad managed to capture the well-defended fortress of Lamot, which was guarded by numerically superior Imperial forces. For this brilliant operation, Turenne was awarded the rank of major-general.
You have received a new directive from your commander:
"Colonel,
Your regiment is assigned to the territory which has just been retaken. The front line is nearby, so your situation will be delicate. Your primary objective is to repel any enemy units that venture into your territory. I must tell you that most towns and villages of the region have been razed to the ground and lie in ruins, therefore you must rebuild a small settlement to support your army and train your recruits. And don't forget to build fortifications and organize reconnaissance, for the enemy may attack at any time."
Destroy the caretakers, and still functioning Core units, and secure Dump for Arm.
PRIORITY
Dump - the sole moon of Core Prime. Destroy all of the units that you find on Dump. We will launch our invasion of the Core homeworld from here.
INFO FEED
There is no atmosphere, nor water on Dump. Therefore air units cannot fly, and sea units are useless here. This is a ground mission Commander. Also, Dump has been used as a depository for the damaged and destroyed waste of eons of Core war effort. Reclaim the metal that you will find lying about to build Arm units for use against Core.
Patch 2.22
The French sponsorship helped Sweden cause extensive damage to Austria. The Swedish army led by Gustaf Adolf triumphed in the Battle of Leipzig, occupied the whole of northern Germany, and thence proceeded tot he south. Thanks to Richelieu's political genius and your outstanding loyalty, France was then able to postpone military operations and make better preparations for the battle. In 1632, the Swedish army suffered a great loss: Their prominent leader King Gustaf Adolf fell in the Battle of Luetzen. After his death, commanders Horn and Berngardt assumed command over the Swedish army.
1633
Wallenstein, the Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial army, attempted to negotiate with the French and Swedish governments. In consequence, the Emperor discharged him from command. Soon after, Wallenstein was assassinated by officers in the pay of the Viennese court.
1634
After Gustaf Adolf's tragic death, France's Swedish allies gradually gave way to the onslaught of the Imperial army. Sweden was opposed by King Feridnand's Imperial Bavarian army under the command of General Count Hallas. After successfully taking several cities by force, Hallas and his forces besieged the city of Noerdlingen. Noerdlingen was strategically important and provided great advantages to forces controlling it. The Swedes had to fight the enemy back. They marched major forces to a camp 10km (6 miles) from Noerdlingen. They decided to block the road connecting Ulm and Noerdlingen, the delivery route for the enemy's food supplies and reinforcements. However, as the Swedes passed a gorge and a forest, the Germans occupied the Albuch mountain, overlooking the Swedes' intended route. Horn initiated an attack, but the Swedes' valour could not counteract the Germans' numerical superiority. Field Marshal Horn became certain that he could not capture the eminence and decided to retreat under cover of his cavalry. The Germans moved into the offensive and crushed the Swedish army. Field Marshal Horn was taken prisoner. After his triumph at Noerdlingen, General Hallas led his forces towards the French border.
1636
Owing to Cardinal Richelieu's efforts, France had so far been spared the perils of war. For the previous five years, France has been preparing for war: forming a battle-worthy army and equipping it with modern firearms and artillery. However, in 1636 the allied powers of Saxony and the Empire gained Magdeburg after a protracted siege and took their stand at the French borders. War was imminent. France was to face one of the best European armies.
"Monsieur,
You have proved quite equal to your mission and are hereby promoted to the rank of colonel. The King believes your squad will hold back the attacking army."

MISSION 19.005ARMR
Destroy all mobile units and capture the Gate intact.
PRIORITY
Core has been pushed back onto the ancient earthworks known as the Motien Ramp. They have assembled a Gate there... perhaps the final Gate. Surely Core Prime, the Core homeworld must be near. Destroy all mobile units at the Motien Ramp, and capture the Gate there.
INFO FEED
The Ramp will be well defended. Also, expect meteor showers.
Patch 2.22
Under Habsburg rule, Austria was one of the most influential European states opposing France. It was part of the Empire and played a vital role due to its powerful army. In the 16th century, Austria formed an alliance with its less powerful neighbors. Facing the peril of Turkish invasion, Czechia joined Austria. The Austrian Habsburg dynasty swiftly and aggressively expanded its influence in Europe, gained numerous victories in the Thirty Years' War and posed a serous threat to France. Cardinal Richelieu brought France into the Thirty Years' War to oppose the Habsburg dynasty. However, France was too weak for full-scale war and instead waged a political one, financing the dynasty's enemies. Richelieu formed an alliance with Sweden and undertook to pay 1,000,000 livres annually. King Gustaf Adolf of Sweden agreed to maintain 30,000 infantry and 6,000 cavalry units in Germany. The alliance enabled the Swedish forces to stay in position at Austria's borders, ready to deliver a severe blow and hold the Austrian army back.
Here is a dispatch from your commander:
"Monsieur,
The enemies of France are stronger than ever before and may engage us at any moment. We are therefore leading major forces to the border. Your corps is to advance towards the border and patrol your assigned sector. Also, you should follow any personal instructions which you may receive from his Eminence Cardinal Richelieu. An emissary will pass by your position. He is a high-ranking official authorized to negotiate with our Swedish allies. The emissary will be carrying a large amount of money, so you should rendezvous with the transport and escort it to the King of Sweden."

Core has captured Arm units and has threatened to make an example of them. Should they do so, you must demand vengeance! - don't build... Destroy all Core units on the scene!
INFO FEED
This is Rougpelt, expect meteor showers.
Patch 2.22
The Thirty Years' War has been raging in Europe for 12 years. Aware that the French army is inferior to the enemy, Cardinal Richelieu is trying to reform it and create regular forces with guns and artillery. The Cardinal also hopes to reform the administration system. He is opposed by many feudal lords, who refuse to invest large sums and give up their privileges. Many have risen up against Richelieu. He faces the necessity of strengthening the royal power and transforming the feudal state into a centralized one. Epidemics and famine have befallen France and aggravated its condition. You receive your long-awaited officer's commission. Attached to it is a letter from the Colonel General:
"Monsieur,
It is with great pleasure that I congratulate you upon joining the glorious French army, but for the moment it is a basin into which we throw the sewage and scum of society. Picardian and Piedmontese 'bandits' are the heart of our infantry. The big brass harbors Huguenots. I cling to the hope that Cardinal Richeliu's military reforms will yield the desired improvement. You are ordered to go to Lorraine to found a military base and train a company of pikemen. The war is a long way away from France at present, so the menace are mainly gangs of retired mercenaries vagabonding in the country in search of loot.
May God be with you, Monsieur."
Core has built a nuclear missile silo! Locate the silo and capture it.
PRIORITY
Once again Core has raised the ante. Energy emissions indicate that they have completed construction of a large missile silo in this area. The silo is thought to contain missiles with nuclear warheads. We must capture the silo, not only to remove the threat, but also to gain the technology that it represents.
INFO FEED
The silo is sure to be well protected, and may be found on what is known as Brooban's Isle. A combination air/sea force will be most effective.
Be prepared for meteor showers.
Patch 2.22
Even the Cid's old ally, Motamid the Moor, was of no avail. Yusuf had sent him into exile in the Sahara Desert, where he spent the rest of his sad days composing poetry.
The Berbers rode around the city for ten days and nights, shrieking and banging their weapons on shields made of hippopotamus hide. But the Cid comforted his troops, prayed and planned a counterattack.
And then the unthinkable happened. During a brilliant surprise attack to capture gold and horses from the Berbers, Rodrigo Díaz, my Cid, was shot by a stray arrow. The surprise attack became a rout, and the Cid's men barely made it back to the castle with his broken body.
Rodrigo and I knew he would not last the night. But we also knew that without their Cid to lead them, the soldiers of Valencia would never have the strength to stand against the Berbers.
So as he breathed his last breath, I strapped my husband onto his horse, Bavieca, and placed his sword, Tizon, in his hand. Bavieca stood out above the city of Valencia.
My one hope was that the men would not realize the charade -- realize that their Cid was already dead."
Destroy all mobile units, and capture or destroy the structures in the stockpile fortress above the Abutment.
PRIORITY
Core has the advantage in that they have knowledge of the terrain hereabout. We have pushed them back to the other side of the cliffs to the north. You must destroy all of the Core mobile units there if we are to continue to push Core entirely off of Rougpelt.
INFO FEED
Be ever wary of Rougpelt's meteor showers. The Abutment will be a formidable barrier against your attack on the Core stockpile, but the barrier limits Core's maneuverability as well. A strong and well coordinated air/ground attack should do the trick!
Patch 2.22
And yet, a remarkable thing happened. Many mercenaries and knights knew of the tales of the Cid, and were eager to follow him, even without a castle. As the Cid wandered further south, more men, Christian and Muslim, joined his army. Eventually, the Cid had a large enough force to carve out a fiefdom of his own.
King Alfonso had set his sights on beautiful Valencia, the jewel of the Moorish coast. But the Cid was closer and could get there sooner.
If he conquered Valencia, the Cid would have protection not only from the machinations of Alfonso, but also a bulwark against the inevitable second invasion of Yusuf and the Berbers.
Events would have unfolded simply then, had not our old enemy, Count Berenguer of Barcelona, picked that moment to strike back at the Cid."
Capture the Core advanced radar tower.
PRIORITY CRITICAL
You are alone on this one Commander. The scouting team sent ahead must be considered lost. Work your way to any communications towers. If you can capture a CORARAD advanced radar tower, we will have gained valuable information concerning Core strength on this new planet.
INFO FEED
The new planet is known as Rougpelt. Be aware that Rougpelt is prone to meteor showers. Stay alert! Your ability to capture may gain you some allies as you search for the advanced radar tower. Furthermore, the alien plant life may prove a useful energy source.
