Woodworking: Making A Bench Fishers Shop 2024-02-16 | To balance out the new bedroom furniture I've created in my previous videos, I really needed something for the foot of the bed. I designed a little bench that will definitely look perfect in that space but also be a great place for me to be able to sit down and put my shoes on in the mornings. I took some inspiration from some Japanese designs and incorporated a tusked mortise and tenon joint as well as some exposed wedged mortises for accents in the bench top. This was a challenging build but the finished product turned out amazing! They typically lay too far back for my taste, they sit too low to the ground, and they're stationary. This was my first time using epoxy to fill large voids as well as my first time to inlay bow ties. It was a learning experience for sure but I'm very pleased with the end result. Woodworking: Making a Valet Stand (A FANCY clothing rack) Fishers Shop 2023-04-07 | My wife asked me to build her a valet stand. Admittedly, I had no idea what this was. Apparently, it's a place to lay out your clothes for the following day so that you can prepare your outfit. It needs a place to hang a jacket and a shirt, a place for pants, a shelf for a sweater, a drawer for undergarments, and a spot for shoes. I decided to make this piece look extra fancy and built it using finger joints with my box joint jig and some decorative bent slats in the sides. The finished product is quite possibly the prettiest thing I've ever made. I wanted something that would be able to house all the dog hole clamps that I use on the bench surface, some standard drawers for storing tools, as well as a slide-out drawer for housing a couple of my frequently used bench-top power tools. It sits flush with the face of the bench as well so you can continue to clamp long boards to the front without any interference. With bridle joints for the arms and legs, dados for the side supports, and half-laps for the seat bottom and back, it’ll definitely make for an interesting build that should go together fairly easily. They were just big enough for a couple of narrow carts to slide into. I designed these two carts, one to hold a couple of hampers and another to hold cleaning supplies. They fit perfectly into the spaces but they’ve also been very handy to have! With the hampers right there, we no longer have a mountain of dirty laundry piled on the floor or on top of the washer. And when we need to do some cleaning, all the supplies for the whole house are all together on the other cart. It just feels good to be organized but also to have an efficient and effective solution to some problems that we didn’t really even know we had.
