This recycling process starts and ends with TrafFix Devices. Our rubber recycling process uses vehicle tires that are no longer suitable for use due to wear or irreparable damage, such as punctures. Not only do our recycled rubber products keep over 12.5 million pounds of rubber waste out of our landfills each year, they also save our customers hundreds of dollars on up-front costs when purchasing traffic control products.Waste tires are among the largest and most problematic sources of waste, due to the large volume produced, their durability, and the fact they contain a number of components that are environmentally hazardous. By some estimates, as many as 259 million tires are discarded annually. The same characteristics that make waste tires problematic also make them excellent sources of recycling.Unfortunately, more than half of used tires are simply burned as fuel, which only adds to the environmental impact of these products. For example, in 2003 the United States used approximately 130 million scrap tires as fuel, up from 25.9 million in 1991. Scorpion TMA Assembly - TrafFix Devices TrafFix Devices 2016-08-02 | A Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) is mounted to a shadow vehicle for purposes of protecting the work crew in front of the shadow vehicle and protecting the motorist that might drive into the lane closed off by the shadow vehicle. Shadow vehicles should be trucks in a weight range of 16,000 lbs. to 20,000 lbs. and preferably 20,000 lbs., which is the weight of the truck tested for certification.The TrafFix Scorpion TMA 10,000 is available in three basic models. • Model A is a TL-2 device tested at 70 km/hr. for use on trucks needing low speed protection or as a replacement cartridge for trucks already equipped with a TL-2 attenuator cartridge. • Model B is a TL-3 device tested at 100 km/hr for use on trucks needing high speed protection. TheModel B uses a strut section in addition to the TL-2 cartridge section to achieve a higher speed device. The rear cartridge section has a hinged hydraulic coupling with fluid on both sides of the cylinders and solenoid valve lockouts. The rear cartridge can be raised to 90º where a scissors lock engages to lock the cartridge in the 90º position. An operators switch has an up and down button and the down button releases the lockout and lowers the cartridge. The release of the up or down button stops the cartridge at that angle. The Model B has a 10º tilt at the strut to allow clearance at driveways. During construction when the shadow vehicle truck has to drive in and out of sloped areas such as the drainage median or a driveway, the strut can be temporarily raised 10º to travel over this terrain. SLED is designed to shield the end of all permanent and temporary portable barrier shapes including concrete, steel and plastic. SLED's unique design incorporates four internal steel cables which help envelop the impacting vehicle, reducing the possibility of secondary accidents. The SLED End Treatment does not require foundation anchor bolts to be attached to the road or bridge deck. The complete crash cushion can be installed quickly, with as little as one pick up truck and two workers on compacted dirt, gravel, decomposed granite, asphalt or concrete.Each SLED module is manufactured from a high visibility yellow polyethylene that is UV stabilized to minimize degradation.
