I often hear that flint and steel is an unnecessary or useless skill because bic lighters or ferro rods work so much faster and/or more reliably. While I feel there is some truth to those statements, I still think that practicing flint and steel to get ownership of it is quite possibly one of the most important ways to practice and learn firecraft as a whole.
