I find the glock and oboe to be a bit loud. In game, you'd only hear them in two or three second snippets, but for long term I worry it's too oppressive for the ears. Admittedly the automatic upload deamplification might have negated the issue. I did deamplify the completed variants to baseline amplification, just to be safe.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Octavos Ode Boss (Maracas)Ken Hisuag2020-11-30 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to TheAltDoc for making this possible!
For the solo variants, I didn't bother balancing the accompaniments. Unlike with the Shopkeeper+, I can be sure that these files were made to go together as is. The medley video will serve as my amplification preference.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Synthrova Boss Battle (Complete)Ken Hisuag2020-11-30 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to TheAltDoc for making this possible!
Admittedly, this probably doesn't need to exist. The existing video from The Nintendo Music Channel does a perfectly fine job of representing what you'll hear in game. However, it does not feature the "broken" variants. So this version exposes the existence of those as well, as well as showcasing some more detail as to how the track is put together.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Octavos Ode Boss (Complete Medley)Ken Hisuag2020-11-28 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to TheAltDoc for making this possible!
And now, the grand finale! The final boss themes have always been a source of consternation for me. I expect them to have a climactic feel, and more often then not they simply don't. Vampified was the major exception. Then they surprised everyone with this DLC, and this piece alone makes all my earlier disappointments worth it. Not only are the motifs strong and progression engaging, but it accomplishes the complex instrument accompaniments lacking from the Octavo boss. I absolutely love this track.
I put this together shortly after the gamerip released a year and a half ago. Dystify Music's medley is sufficient showcase for this theme's variants, but as I personally prefer something shorter, I figured someone else might, too. I'll still use the longer version for the playlist, though.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Instrument Obtained w/ ShopkeeperKen Hisuag2020-11-26 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
I couldn't decide which victory jingle to use for Freddy's showcase, so I decided to do what I had done for Octavo's boss theme and splice them all together. Of course, then I had to decide what order to put them in . . .Cadence of Hyrule OST: Bongos ObtainedKen Hisuag2020-11-25 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Philip J. This balances out the maracas as a melody-less instrument. I'd love to hear an Octavo battle with bongo and synthesizer accompaniments, but I can understand why they wouldn't do that (even if it would be extremely easy).Cadence of Hyrule OST: Synthesizer ObtainedKen Hisuag2020-11-25 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Philip J. I love that they included a synthesizer among the instruments. It made for some truly amazing area and boss themes while highlighting the unique strengths it has as its own instrument (something I sometimes have trouble convincing others of).Cadence of Hyrule OST: King DobongoKen Hisuag2020-11-24 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Philip J. This boss theme is insanely broken! In case anyone has been wondering why it took so long for this track to be posted to Youtube:
The track is made up of six files. The four "walking" variants keep beat with each other; when one is interrupted, the next one picks up where the previous would have been without the interruption. The new variant does not pick up where the previous left off, and it does not start at the beginning. The two "turning" variants will play when King Dobongo reaches a corner and prepares to turn. This does not happen at a consistent rate, which means the walking variants can loop any number of times or not at all before being switched out. I'm not sure what the chances are of this track playing the same way twice, but I'm guessing they are rather low. Also, the turning variants are so similar that I'm not even sure what the difference is.
There are other medleys of this boss theme on Youtube already, but they always go in reverse order. I needed something accurate to the game, where you take away the knights' individual accompaniments rather than add them. While this technically also means I can't loop the track as is customary, in another sense it's already looped five times.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Future World (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
???/Dark World has as many names as Kakariko Crypt, and I'm not entirely sure of the proper titles for either of them. That's another reason an official soundtrack release would be nice.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Hyrule Castle (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
The common gamerip puts this track early in the OST, because you'll hear it first if you choose to play as Zelda. The only time you're guaranteed to hear it in any playthrough is in the endgame, though, so I think it works better down here.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Temple of Storms (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
The Puppet kinda makes up for the lack of glockenspiel, but I'm still looking forward to trying out the combo, especially on A_Rival's remix. I have to get my hands on the accompaniment files first, though.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Death Mountain (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
I am not 100% certain if the Puppet is a live performance or a soundfont. It think it likely the latter, and if so it was certainly performed by Michaela Nachtigall. I'm still considering getting an otamatone myself and attempting to compose accompaniments for the Crypt of the Necrodancer (not to mention the two Symphony of the Mask tracks).Cadence of Hyrule OST: Lost Swamp (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
This is one of the few tracks where the Puppet is obviously geared more toward the combat variant. While that's a bit disappointing, it also makes a lot of sense (especially considering the otamatone already present in that track).Cadence of Hyrule OST: Lost Woods (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
Lost Woods is one of my least favorite pieces in the soundtrack, but the Puppet accompaniment is by far my favorite! It adds so much to the spooky atmosphere. I'm hoping this is the track Daoust chooses to include a Puppet cover for.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Gerudo Ruins (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
Gerudo Ruins just isn't the same without the bass guitar accompaniment. The question/answer technique in this piece isn't evident otherwise. Again, a project for the (hopefully) near future.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Gerudo Desert (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
I'm fairly certain that the Shopkeeper was arranged to primarily accompany the combat variants, and the Puppet was arranged to accompany the Shopkeeper (so luigiguy had the right idea). But I can still appreciate the uniqueness of the solo Puppet accompaniment; I look forward to pairing it with Chipzel's nudisco variants.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Frozen Grotto (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
I wasn't fully confident in my decision to use the peaceful variants for the Puppet accompaniments until after I started. I think the lesser emphasization of the melody allows the Puppet to stand out without conflicting, whereas in the combat variants the Shopkeeper contrasts the melody.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Cave (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
Weird thing to put here, but if you haven't listened to Nicolas Doust's CoH covers yet, you should. I really appreciated his rearrangement of this track in particular; by starting at a different point in the track, he gave more time for build-up.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Field Music (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
Did you know there was a limited edition giveaway of a Cadence of Hyrule soundtrack selection on vinyl? Isn't that incredibly annoying (justsellyoursoundtracksalreadynintendoiwantobuythemwhy?!)? Anyway, the tracklisting for the vinyl labeled the track commonly referred to as "Overworld" as "Field Music," not to mention "Windmill Hut" being simplified to "Windmill." So while the video title may be confusing, it is technically the official name for the track.Cadence of Hyrule OST: 1-1/Kakariko Crypt (Peaceful w/ Puppet)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
The files call him "robo," but they also use "Dark World" instead of "Future World." I prefer "Puppet Freddy" to "Robo Freddy," so that's what I'm going with.Cadence of Hyrule OST: Hyrule Castle (Combat w/ Shopkeeper)Ken Hisuag2020-11-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky for the game Cadence of Hyrule Purchase the game here: nintendo.com/games/detail/cadence-of-hyrule-crypt-of-the-necrodancer-featuring-the-legend-of-zelda-switch Thanks to Sitting On Clouds and TheAltDoc for making this possible!
Well, now I can finally get down to completing the playlist. I may still be missing some things, but I'll do what I can to fill in the gaps as much as possible. I've no idea why the common gamerip doesn't include Shopkeeper variants for Hyrule Castle combat and peaceful, but I do admit that the lack of a proper loop file made it a bit difficult. I tried to replicate the early fade-out with the Shopkeeper, but I would have preferred to create a full loop and align the Shopkeeper appropriately. This will do for now, though.Crypt of the Necrodancer OST: Polkamancer (Death Metal Remix)Ken Hisuag2020-08-23 | Composed by Danny Baranowsky(?) for the game Crypt of the Necrodancer Buy the game here: store.steampowered.com/app/247080/Crypt_of_the_NecroDancer Buy the soundtrack here: dbsoundworks.bandcamp.com/album/crypt-of-the-necrodancer-ost
Actually, I'm not 100% positive it was Baranowsky that arranged this version. It's an easter egg for FamilyJules's soundtrack, which is why the name I came up with is a pun off of his metal remix "Pyrodancer." So just in case, buy his soundtrack here: familyjules7x.bandcamp.com/album/arias-ascent
(except don't, get Aria Awakened instead, it's much better!)
This has been posted on Youtube before, but always as an in-game recording or an unedited file rip. I'm willing to bet the number of people who know the in-game OCRemix of Notorious D.I.G. is different from the OST version is even less than those who know about Dance of the Decorous. I certainly didn't know until I started putting together the instrumental version and tried doing comparisons.Crypt of the Necrodancer - OverClocked: Notorious D.I.G. I think this is my favorite version of Notorious D.I.G.; it compliments the intended style perfectly. It's not a genre of music I usually listen to otherwise, but that's true for quite a portion of the CotND.Crypt of the Necrodancer - OverClocked: Dance of the Decorous (3-2 Cold Remix) ~ Game VersionKen Hisuag2020-08-13 | Composed by Jordan Aguirre, a.k.a. bLiNd, for the game Crypt of the Necrodancer Buy the game here: store.steampowered.com/app/247080/Crypt_of_the_NecroDancer Buy the soundtrack here: ocrecords.bandcamp.com/album/crypt-of-the-necrodancer-overclocked
I was quite surprised that this wasn't already on Youtube, but I suppose it makes sense. Considering the difficulty of the game and the amount of focus it requires, it's possible that most players don't even notice the difference between the in-game music and the OST track.
In a way, it was this track that motivated me to do an OST+ for CotND. There are so many alternate soundtracks, and then there are extras like this that a lot of people might not even know about. Very few games have such a diverse and complex musical legacy, and I love it!Crypt of the Necrodancer - Synthwave Cuts: Notorious D.I.G. I've linked the Steam soundtrack on this video because Kaufman's Amplified soundtrack was never released anywhere else! So if you want to strategize how to get the complete CotND soundtrack collection for the best value, I'd advise against purchasing the Girlfriend Records Amplified on other platforms in favor of getting the Virt/Girlfriend Amplified package through Steam.Crypt of the Necrodancer - Aria Amplified: Molevalence (Fortissimole feat. I've linked the Steam soundtrack for this video because it features the Mega Ran vocals, as opposed to the Bandcamp version with features Ahren Gray. I'm not sure it's worth purchasing for that alone, but if you're like me and object to file diving for music already available directly from the artist, then you know where to go.Crypt of the Necrodancer - Aria Amplified: Molevalence (Fortissimole Instrumental Remix)Ken Hisuag2020-08-13 | Composed by Jules Conroy, a.k.a. Of all the contributors to the CotND soundtrack, FamilyJules is the only one with an active and consistent Youtube presence. As such, I'm a bit more hesitant to post his missing tracks. A part of me suspects that I've just missed them, and they're already on the platform. If I discover this is in fact the case, or if he posts them at a later date, these videos will be privated.Crypt of the Necrodancer AMPLIFIED OST: Notorious D.I.G. The thing about Notorious D.I.G. is, there are a minimum of two versions for every remix--one with Mega Ran, and one without. Baranowsky's soundtrack only includes the vocal version, A-Rival's only has the instrumental, and FamilyJules released a unique vocal collab. I personally like being able to listen to the instrumental version, but I get the impression the vocal version was meant to be the default. One of the hidden gems of the sound files. Aside from the obvious accompaniment from Merchantry early on, you can hear his Ghost at 1:12 (which is also where the instrument behind the Shopkeeper is credited in-game). Also this track doesn't loop like the soundtrack version, which I personally prefer.Crypt of the Necrodancer OST: Cadence Commencement (Intro)Ken Hisuag2020-08-13 | Composed by Danny Barenowsky for the game Crypt of the Necrodancer Buy the game here: store.steampowered.com/app/247080/Crypt_of_the_NecroDancer Buy the soundtrack here: dbsoundworks.bandcamp.com/album/crypt-of-the-necrodancer-ost
