For unknown reason, the Edge 500 does not currently have buffering of GPS locations. It's doing a difference of raw GPS locations.
The commercial GPS signal has variances, generally in the 30 ft range, to help thwart unfriendly or enemy use of the signal. As opposed to the encrypted military signal from the same GPS satellites; the military signal is dead-accurate to 3 feet.
When you differ the raw commercial signal in a fixed time interval, you get wild variations of speed, as seen here.
Garmin needs to correct this problem. They have the software already, as seen in the two watches. Especially that the Forerunner 205 has GPS buffering, and it was introduced in 2006.NEX-5 night video testbioreconstruct2010-10-19 | Night time video test of the Sony NEX-5. I expected to be taking a standard tourist shuttle bus to the airport from a train station. Instead, it was a regular city bus, without a word of English spoken or written anywhere on the bus! Figuring all this out and worrying that I was still on the wrong bus was one of the most exciting adventures I've done. To make sure I was on the right bus I drew a picture of a plane. Note the lady with the handheld scanner pushing forward in the later crowd shot. She is the fare taker. Bus drivers there only drive the bus. Note also the bike lanes along the road. I also towered over everyone in the bus.Holomatrix testbioreconstruct2009-12-12 | Investigating a look for avatars composited on a live action plate.Fragment of night lightingbioreconstruct2009-11-26 | This is a composite and probably is too subtle.
