Lock n Load - Destiny: The Taken King OST Destiny Music Archive 2025-01-27 | This is an interesting one. Sit with me for a moment and let me tell you about a very special man who most of you have never heard of, but almost certainly know his work. This was an unused piece of Destiny music written by Stan LePard, who you may know for writing a significant portion of the Halo: Reach soundtrack. For Destiny 1, he was initially in charge of writing percussion parts for them (you can hear his work in almost every action layer in early D1 as well as the drums in tracks like First Challenge). Stan's percussion parts have been pulled from for years; for instance, the drums in The Sanctified Mind are heavily edited versions of drums that Stan wrote. However, Stan did write full proper pieces for Destiny, just none of them were used. This piece is the only one that was ever shared online, having been briefly available on Stan's SoundCloud page. In case anyone is curious, they called this type of music an "ambrhythm," obviously short for "ambient rhythm." Marty, Mike, C Paul, and Stan all wrote ambrhythms for the Halo games, and that continued into early Destiny. Most of Mike's Destiny music is what he calls an "M" (M1 being Traveler's Promise, M7 being Guardian, etc.) but Mike also wrote around 15 ambrhythms in the early D1 days. Some of them are tracks you'd recognize as pieces such as House of Kings, Exclusion Zone, The Journey Home, or Guardians Lost. There's at least around 6 to 8 of Mike's ambrhythms in this style we've never heard (and likely never will) and that's on top of every other ambrhythm Stan did other than this one. Stan was also the guy who orchestrated most of their music pre-D2. This means that Stan was the guy who took their MIDI projects and turned the pieces they wrote into proper sheet music and handled the recording process. Stan did this for games left and right from a ton of studios and publishers. Stan also wrote music for a ton of games such as Crimson Skies (if you're cool) and his last work was writing a significant portion of the music to Guild Wars 2. Stan tragically and very unexpectedly passed away a few years ago. He was loved by absolutely everyone in the entire game audio scene, and I was also fortunate enough to have been able to talk with him several times. He was an amazing person and I hope you can enjoy this take on what Destiny music could be. If it sounds very similar to Halo: Reach, remember that Stan wrote a huge amount of the music in Reach right before this. Most people don't even know his name and assume Marty did everything. If you take away nothing else from our channel, we've always hoped it would be to challenge your assumptions on who did what with these music pieces. Halo wasn't just the work of Marty O'Donnell and Destiny was never just the work of Michael Salvatori. There are large sweeps of music for both franchises that was done and/or worked on by people you might not have even heard of; these artists deserve to be remembered for their contributions to the things we love. So this video is dedicated to the late Stan LePard. A personal hero of mine in the orchestration world. All of the sheet music videos on my channel for Destiny music use the layout and fonts Stan would've used.
