The Galtee Mountains (hiking range fail) Mountain Mikes Adventures 2020-10-31 | The Galtee Mountains nestled on the borders of Tipperary, Limerick and Cork is where I decided to take on filming my first entire mountain range hike. It's a lovely mountain range that's easily accessed and has numerous tracks and trails on it. The highest peak of the Galtees is Galtee Mor at 917.9 meters which is also one of Irelands highest and has numerous Arderins and Vandeleur-Lynams. I wanted to hike a mountain range I hadn't hiked before as a challenge and I wasn't left disappointed with what I had to face. As you can see from the title, it kinda didn't go according to plan. The Cavan Way, short but class hiking trail (section 12) Mountain Mikes Adventures 2020-01-16 | The Cavan Way, a short but delightful hiking trail that stretches from one border of Cavan to the other. I had less than a day to complete this trial so the pressure was slightly on but that never took away from the enjoyment of hiking this trail. My poor feet were very happy on this trail as most of it is off-road with a few sections pulling on to country lanes and one busy road. Another marvel if you have time is the Cavan Burren. The Lung Lough Gara Way (incomplete section 9) Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-10-29 | The Lung Lough Gara Way which was incomplete when I walked it, is the 9th section of the Ireland Way. The Suck Valley Way (section 8) The Ireland Way Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-10-04 | The Suck Valley Way is the 8th section of The Ireland Way. This hiking trail takes in half of the original Suck Valley Way, a really lovely multi-day loop walk nestled in the Hidden Heartlands between Galway and Roscommon. You'll go through woods, past castle ruins, along fields and country lanes while dodging the odd bull. During the two days I spent walking this section I was constantly watching for storm Ali who was on the way and edging ever nearer. The Hymany Way, Galways hidden hiking trail Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-08-31 | The Hymany Way, taking you from the banks of the beautiful Shannon River all the way lovely town of Ballygar this hike is the 7th stage of The Ireland Way. This relatively unknown hiking trail boasts some nice hiking in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands.This one was a bit of a rollercoaster as I really had to dig deep halfway through but also had some very memorable moments from the amazing generosity of the people along the way. The Ormond Way a Hidden Heartlands gem (Ireland) Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-08-07 | The Ormond way is a hidden heartlands gem here in Ireland but has yet to be officially launched as a hiking waymarked trail and is the 6th stage of The 1000km Ireland Way. It's a fine mixture of hiking through Irish rolling hills, woods, peat bogs and country lanes. There is also a great explorers mix of histories such as Lorrha, and the modern, Cloughjordan's Eco Village, to see and whiteness. Once again I was blown away by the locals I met along the way and the incredible generosity that was shown to me as a marched along on my way up through Ireland. Although the Ormond Way is yet to be finished and in need of some work from what I saw it is near completion and very well may be fully complete by the time you head on your journey. The Multeen Way (Deadly history) nice hiking with trail dangers Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-07-15 | The Multeen Way may be one of the shortest trails on The Ireland Way, but what it lacks in distance it more than makes up for in depth of fascinating history and the character of its people.After battling through the last section the hiking was a bit easier but encounters with hogweed, guard dogs, bulls and stampeding cows did keep me on my toes. Country lanes, fields, hills, and windfarms dominate this section. Legendary Robin Hood-type hero's use to roam this area and faction's use to beat each other with sticks in street battles. Francis, Liam and Michael thankfully were able to regale me with these incredible stories and more. The Ballyhoura Way (Its a bloody long way to Tipperary) 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-06-18 | The Ballyhoura Way is the longest hiking trail of The Ireland Way at 89km spanning three counties Cork, Limerick and finishing Tipperary. It really does give credence to that famous saying ;) as it is a bloody long way to Tipperary. I had some amazing fun on this trail but I also some deep lows, it pushed me to limits but also enthraled me. Once again the people were just amazing as I was welcomed so warmly in many places plus the great sing-songs. Just like Slí Ghealtagh Mushcraí and the Beara Way this trail is one that could break you or make you. The hiking can be tough and there are lots of hard roads to get through. This trail starts off at John's bridge, not long after you go through Liscarroll and Churchtown with lots of rural roads. Then it's on to the hardest part a tough the Ballyhoura mountains.Finally getting out of Cork the first Village you reach in Limerick is Ballyorgan, that's followed by Kilfinnane, Ballyanders, Galbally before heading up through the Glen of Arlow and finally reaching the famous town of Tipperary. North West Cork Way (Amazingly friendly people and Roads) 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-04-16 | North West Cork is the location for section 3 of the Beara-Breifne Way and The Ireland Way. The North West Cork Way follows on from my tough two hikes in the previous sections. Although there is not much elevation change hard roads dominate the hiking in this section. Starting off in Millstreet I had to make my way to John's Bridge via Newmarket and Lismire and with very few Elvis's (waymarkers) to guide me. Slí Gaeltacht Mhuscraí (hiking guide) section 2 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2019-03-21 | Slí Gaeltacht Mhuscraí is a fantastic hike but doing it right after the Beara Way (section 1) made the hiking very tough and challenging. Blisters, cuts, bruises, grit and determination were all part of this gruelling challenge but thankfully I didn't find myself alone as help came from many places. Solely placed in Cork this trail takes you over mountains, fields and country laneways with stops in Ballingeary and Ballyvourney before arriving in Millstreet. Probably the jewel of the hike is Gougane Barra a truly wonderful place of tranquillity and rejuvenation. Not only did I not foresee it but I definitely didn't think I'd be taking on greater challenges. Doolough Valley (awesome drone footage) 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2018-07-06 | Doolough Valley, this was the place set for me to practice using my drone while hiking and of course getting more comfortable using it. Sunny weather, beautiful lakes, amazing mountains this place was, in my opinion, a great place to start. The location itself is amazing and some of the shots really came out well. You can find Doolough along the Wild Atlantic Way between Leenaun and Louisburgh. This stunning place has a tragic history connected to the Famine. There are many places to hike as it slap bang in between Mweelrea and the Sheefry Hills. Carrauntoohil: amazing OSheas Gully-Ladder loop 2018 (hiking guide and history) Mountain Mikes Adventures 2018-06-12 | Carrauntoohil, a majestic mountain set at the heart of the Macgillicuddy Reeks. As Irelands highest mountain and the fact it's in the beautiful County Kerry, means it boasts some of the most spectacular views throughout the island of Ireland. With Jagged cliffs, mythical cliffs and an ancient presence, this is a really is a place that holds you captivated as you explore its wonders.However, make no mistake this mountain is not to be taken lightly as it can be treacherous in bad conditions. The hiking is fantastic, the scenery is stunning and the challenge is tough, this mountain has so much to offer anyone looking for an adventure in the wild southwest of Ireland. So for this hike, we decided to mix it up a bit and do a loop going up the less popular O'shea's gully and down the main route the devil's ladder. Mens mental health (breaking the stigma) 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2018-05-16 | Men's mental health is a topic that we men need to start to really get to grips with. However, it's not just a topic having healthy mental health is so vital to a positive happy life it's such a shame that so many of us don't hold it in the high regard it should be in. In this video, I look at some of the statistics on men's mental health and look to start changing the mindset we have. Mountain Skills 2 (Night navigation and steep ascents) 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2018-04-12 | Mountain Skills 2 is a continuation of MS1. This course mainly consists of Night Navigation plus also looking at the difficulties and hazards with steep terrain and broken. Night nav was very challenging due to the bad conditions but that didn't take away from the enjoyment and really only enhanced the experiences. Day 2 we were treated to some amazing natural scenes both cloudy and sunny. There were a few hairy moments going up the very steep bits but thanks to Michelle (who was was fantastic) we traversed and overcame. So please sit back and I hope you enjoy the video. Mountain skills training 1 day 2 (crazy windy conditions) 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2018-03-29 | Mountain skills training 1 day 2, great fun with great people and some challenging conditions. During this day we learn new skills and work with some of the skills we learned from the day before. We practiced pacing and timing, feature recognition, grid references, route planning, the compass. Incorporating all of these skills while trying to learn new ones plus the added element of tough conditions made the going hard. It was a misty rainy day and as we got to the top we were battered by some very strong winds. Mountain skills training 1 (part 1) Connemara 2018 Mountain Mikes Adventures 2018-02-18 | Mountain skills training is a course set up by Mountaineering Ireland to give people the basic skills and awareness needed to safely and confidently go walking in the mountains. We decided to take on the course with Michelle Hughes and were lucky enough to do the training in the stunning location of Connemara.
