What is it?Dan The Maker Man2023-07-06 | This thing didn't move the whole time we were at the beach. I don't think they have oil rig platforms off the coast of Destin. The next time we went to the beach it was actually a lot clearer day and this thing was gone. Sorry for the video quality but this was shot maxing out the zoom on my phone. Any clue what this could be? This thing was way out there so I can only imagine how tall those spires actually were, it was weird and felt ominous while filming it.A Damascus marking knife I recently made for an internet buddy of mine. It ended up being a 3 day build because stuff kept going wrong and not working. It was a lot of trouble shooting than I had anticipated. And to top it all off it works like 80% of the time. How Not to Display Tools!Dan The Maker Man2023-02-02 | I made a display stand for the layout tools I make. The stand is a pc. of sugar maple cutoff from a bowl blank I made. I had this piece laying around my shop for like 2 years. I liked the shape and didn't want to throw it out. I'm glad I didn't throw it out, I think the stand looks really nice. Its always nice to be able to use a piece of scrap.Anti-Gravity Pen Holder.Dan The Maker Man2023-02-01 | Yes I know its not actually anti-gravity, I was just using the same name that people use for the wine bottle holders they make. I wasn't sure if this would work especially after adding the curves. I was pleasantly surprised to see the end result. I want to experiment more with shaping the wood to see just how creative I can get with the design.I made a Mario and Luigi puzzle using dollar store wood blocks.Dan The Maker Man2023-01-17 | ...Wolverine wall artDan The Maker Man2023-01-11 | ...Heat Treated Saw Blade Snap test.Dan The Maker Man2022-12-15 | ...This is truly one of kind, I will never make another oneike this. its made from mahogany & purple 💜Dan The Maker Man2022-12-09 | ...Christmas ornament? That wireless charging pad failed, which I had to throw away since it was all one piece. I didn't want to remake another one out of MDF just to have the same thing happen again so instead I modeled one in Tinker Cad and 3D printed it. I also decided to use Velcro to attach the charging pad to the tray so if it fails, I can just replace it instead of throwing it out or printing a new one. This was my first time designing something in Tinker Cad and I am really happy with how it turned out.
I used PLA to print this tray out but ABS or maybe even PETG would have been better since they can take the heat that can build up in a car during the summer months. I will see how well this PLA version does in the coming months.
Ender 3: amzn.to/3u9H7QYHow to Make a Marking Knife for Fine Woodworking JoineryDan The Maker Man2021-10-07 | This is the first marking knife I ever made, it is from quite awhile ago. I do not show it in the video but I did temper the blade in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour. I have to try and make any dovetails or any other fine woodworking joinery but I feel like this would work well for getting precise marks. I have made a few of these for several folks and I have only gotten back positive feedback.Using 10 Minute Casting Resin to Make a Mallet Hammer HeadDan The Maker Man2021-03-05 | I've been wanting to make a non-marring plastic mallet for quite a while and I finally got around to making one. I used a quick setting plastic resin that I have used before. This stuff is pretty awesome it sets in about 10 minutes and it machines really well on the lathe. I had previously made a smaller version that I use as a sort of plenishing hammer to shape thin metal so I know it is possible but I wanted to make a larger heavier version to use for assembling wood. I was surprised at how tough the plastic is once it sets especially since it sets in 10 minutes. I used silver maple for the handle which turned out okay the fitment between the hammer head and the wood was a little looser than I would have liked but luckily the epoxy fills up any void fairly well. Once the epoxy set it felt really solid I suppose time will tell if it comes loose and if it does well I'll just make another one.How to Make a Gyuto Style Knife from Pallet WoodDan The Maker Man2021-02-12 | Every once in awhile I get very lucky and find a really nice piece of wood on a pallet. This particular piece came from a pallet that I got from a flooring store. While taking it apart I noticed one of the slats was curly maple. I put the piece aside and figured I would use it for something special. Eventually I planed the piece down to about 5/16 or so and set aside on my wood rack. I had forgotten about the piece until I came across it when I was moving some stuff around my shop. I had been wanting to try and make a wooden cake knife for quite some time and when I came upon this particular piece of wood I decided to give it a go. The process is fairly easy and very satisfying in the end. Its a lot like making a steel knife minus the heat treat but in the end you still get that same level of achievement and satisfaction when making an actual knife. A little bit of a disclaimer here only the blade is pallet wood the handles were Wenge which was given to me by a buddy of mine who was going to throw away his scraps. Luckily he gave me a call before he threw them out. Since I plan to use this for cutting cakes I applied 3 heavy coats of a food safe finish to the entire knife. I am curious to see how it holds up after washing. If you have any questions let me know and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for watching.
