Last weekend, there was a AIR Reitaisai livestream event being held by Reitaisai group along with ZUN. The event was chill and fun with circles such as Marasy performing during the stream from time to time. While no news for Touhou 17.5 was mentioned, on Twitter, Team Dreamcatcher's 2nd full danmakufu game '東方催狐譚 ~ Servants of Harvest Wish' (SoHW) was released!
SoHW so far has been an enjoyable experience. Stage 5 is pretty fun to tackle and the music is very pleasing to listen. I certainly adore the aesthetic the stages has in combination with the music. SoHW is quite generous on how you take hits with death bombing being similar to IN, as well as frequent border activation to soak a hit. Overall, I enjoy my time with SoHW, and will likely attempt Hard/Extra mode soon.
You can get the game via the dev's tweet below:

Touhou Night SKY is our very first concert that we have hosted.
With AniManGaki's support, the fans, and the hard working crew of MTB, we were able to make this concert into reality and a successful one at that. The crowd of Touhou fans and their enthusiasm, along with Yuuhei's performance was certainly a sight to behold.
We actually had the chance to invite senya over (a sudden arrangement a month prior to event), however we were unable to do so as PUSPAL Office weren't able to produce the legal documents on time.

Title: 色は匂へど 散りぬるを
This year, in Animangaki 2018, we decided to host something a little different from the usual stuff. We decided on a mini-game tournament for a breath of fresh air. Due to that, we have contacted NitorInc developer to supply us with a NitorInc Tournament build edition.
NitorInc is a wario-ware game filled with a plethora of mini-game challenges. The assets and mini-games are essentially a collaboration among many Touhou fans out there.
The main difference between the tournament and demo+ build is the addition of a seed generator and adjustment of timer for the mini-games so that they are synchronized.
Hosting this game has been a crazy fun experience for me. The catchy music and the wacky mini-game made Day 1 one heck of a fun ride. It certainly puts a smile on my face to see everyone enjoying and having fun with it.
NitorInc is on Steam, and you can play the DEMO+ build here:
store.steampowered.com/app/772260/NitorInc_Touhou_Microgames
Also to note, they are looking to boost their programmer department. If you're interested in coding microgames, here's your chance to do so:

Hollow Song of Birds is a collaborative fan-game between raichu, ido, and Shijimi Nono. They are mainly known for their work such as Book of Star Mythology, Riverbed Soul Saver, and Fairies of Sorcery respectively. The music composition this time around is directed by WanWan, whom is known for his work in ido's Touhou game series.
HSoB boasts a total of 7 sub-weapons which are as follows:
Red - Shots inflict burn on enemies
Orange - Grazing produces homing shots
Yellow - Additional options
Green - Shooting gradually increases movement speed
Aqua - Shots do splash damage
Blue - Shots slow and freezes enemies
Violet - Ability to warp from one side to the other, similarly to Yukari's partner ability in SA.
Bomb plays similar to MoF in nature, however the potency and effect varies with each sub-weapons. Live and bomb resources are obtained through points and grey crystals respectively. Collecting resources (ex: grey crystals) also charges your superbomb which is displayed beneath the graze meter. The superbomb can be activated by pressing the 'C' button.
Additionally, you can access another 2 sub-weapon by pressing up in the sub-weapon select screen:
White - Gain extra 2 options. Bomb meter also fills quicker than usual.
Black - Vanilla mode. No sub-weapons.
Note that superbomb is also disabled when using white or black sub-weapon.
All in all, I'm really liking what I'm seeing in this trial version. The music has that signature WanWan-style that I'm familiar and liked a lot. Stage 3's Boss in overall is pretty cute and has a pretty catchy theme. The different sub-weapons are fun to use, though some are clearly stronger than others. If anything, I feel that the orange sub-weapon is a little too strong as it chews through spellcards really quickly. Anyhow, I'm certainly excited to see how this game turns out.

The game is finally released and I'm certainly having a ball with it despite the difficulty being on the easy side (at least on Normal). Aside from providing a huge amount of resources, there is an auto-dodge system that can be purchased in the in-game shop to greatly aid beginners to the bullet hell series.
The game's music and presentation is really beautiful to me. Stage 5 in particular pretty much won me over due to its music and aesthetic. Stage 6 is certainly unique as this is the first time I've seen the stage being done in this manner. Though, I do feel that the difficulty in stage 6 is a little underwhelming, at least on Normal. All in all, I do enjoy the music synchronization and presentation a great deal.
Onward to difficulties above Normal.

In the past few years, we have been focusing solely on Danmaku Tournaments. However, this year we have decided to bring back the Hisoutensoku Tourney. We have showcased the Finale battle between the two competitors in front of a wide audience on the big stage (link above). It is a heated battle between the competitors; Juz-A-Potato from Malaysia and Greenopi from Thailand, as they display their might and ferocity in front of the main crowd. There can only be one Champion in this battle we call Hisoutensoku.

Autumn leafs covers the Youkai Mountain, spring in the Hakurei Shrine, and everlasting summer basked the outer lake of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. It's a clear sign that something is amiss with the unusual pockets of seasons occurring at this various spots around Gensokyo. Due to this circumstances, the protagonists set out to investigate this odd seasonal occurrence.
Touhou 16 - HSiF sports an array of selectable seasonal sub-weapons. Each sub-weapons provide different familiar options and special season releases for your characters. However, character's are locked to a single sub-weapon in the Extra Stage for narrative reasons.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Extra stage in TH16 is a lot more relaxed compared to its previous installments. The stage portion feels like its made to gear the player up with as many resources as possible before the encounter with Okina Matara. Okina herself sport some pretty interesting spellcards that involves having to fight her in a reverse or circular position (though it can be trivialized with season released). Personally, I find her to be one of the easier Extra stage boss to fight against with Mokou coming in second. I'll probably be making a non-season release attempt in the future as well, as I do find her to be pretty fun to fight against.
Also to say, I absolutely adore the music in this game, particularly the Extra stages and the stage 5 theme (youtube.com/watch?v=k6HE6goqqrU). I'm really looking forward to see how people arranged these themes.
Also, it took me awhile to realize the survival card is bugged. I thought ZUN had changed up some things only to realize that it was a bug related to season release.

This is the Stage 1 theme.
I tried to bring out an "introductory" feeling, along with the exhilaration of summer.
It's a pretty light theme, even by Touhou standards. Did I manage to express a feeling of speed, I wonder?
With all said and done, it goes well with a beer.
- ZUN@MusicRoom
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The original tune and first arrange that I've shared invokes a feeling of speed and cheeriness, however here we have a more calming take of the theme itself. It's a lovely track to listen to while relaxing, though perhaps an array of baked sweets would be a more suitable accompaniment rather than beer.

This is the Stage 2 theme.
In contrast to Stage 1's unending cheer, I added a sort of melancholy to this one
and brought out an autumnal feel.
Tailoring the music to sound uniform across the whole game, even as the seasons
change, is kind of fun.

Tri Focuser sports three playable characters, with Aya Shameimaru, Hatate Himekaidou, and a secret character that is unlocked by clearing 4-9. The music in this game (especially early scenes) is pretty chill, though the tracks in later scenes gets a lot more exciting which lends itself quite well to the nature of this game. Similarly to Double Spoiler, the tracks tend to motivate me to continuously try and capture each spellcard without feeling early fatigue. The track "Avalon Gate" (3rd BGM in video) in particular is my favorite out of the entire list of tracks in game.
At this time, I'm struggling to clear Day 9 scene's (9-4 in particular, what do?!?).

I've been following this for great while since I've seen the trailer a couple of weeks back. I've gotten a lot more enjoyment out of this than what I normally do from trial releases, though that could just be me really liking the concept of bullet synchronized BGM. With that, I'm definitely looking forward to the full release of this title which is around Summer 2017 (from steam greenlight page)
Also, the bomb resource seemed a tad much. I'm practically swimming in it by the end of stage 3.

A cheery stage intro and by far the most impressive stage background I've seen so far from ZUN. This arrangement is also quite pretty and cheery like the original tune. A track where one would chill under a tree and appreciate the summer warmth, with beer on the side, because why not?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is Aunn Komano's theme.
A feeling of spring, bravery, and a somewhat-strong opponent, as well as that of a Yuru-chara.
It's an all-over-the-place theme with all those things crammed into it.
Her character concept is 'a single divine beast acting as a pair,' but she doesn't have
a split personality or anything. Also, you can't see it, but she's got herself a tail!
- ZUN@MusicRoom
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The guardian of shrines and temples. A guardian whom chases out intruders, youkai and beasts alike to prevent any harm from ever laying onto the shrine itself. Though, giant keystones are not part of the guarding description apparently.
That aside, the arranger certainly picked one of the best boss theme's from this trial to arrange first. The track itself is great and catchy, and I'm certainly glad to hear a great rendition by this arranger for Aunn's theme. Great job yet again ~

It's a clear sign that something is amiss with the unusual pockets of seasons occurring at this various spots around Gensokyo. Due to this circumstances, the protagonists set out to investigate this odd seasonal occurrence.
Touhou 16 - HSiF sports the usage of seasonal sub-weapons. Each seasonal sub-weapons provide different familiar options and special season bombs (C button) for your characters. The quirks of each seasons are as such:
Spring - Cost: All gauges. Clears all bullets in an area, area size scales with gauge spent. Brief invulnerability. Invulnerable time scales with gauges spent.
Summer - Cost: One gauge. Creates a static shield at your current position.
Fall - Cost: All gauges. Generates a shield that follows your character. Increases character speed. Duration scales with gauges spent. Not invulnerable even with the shield up.
Winter - Cost: All gauges. Creates a static shield and increases all damage output. Duration scales with gauges spent.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While LoLK (trial) provides a ton of scary tricky micro-dodging maneuver, HSiF (trial) is the opposite of it with the overall trial being less stressful and relaxing. The music in the game is pretty neat, with stage 2 theme heavily reminding me of Grimoire of Marisa. The set of characters this time around are certainly an interesting bunch. Overall, I'm liking this installment a lot more than LoLK already. Looking forward to see more of this.
SHE'S MY WAIFU!
We've all had this argument before with our friends. Why not settle the score with a quick and easy game of Waifu Wars? Eliminate your opposition through careful use of the cards you are dealt and prove once and for all that you deserve to stand by her.
Rounds of Waifu Wars are simple. Players draw a card from the deck and add it to their hand, while choosing a card to play. Cards can be used to influence a game, either by eliminating others or protecting yourself from elimination. Play continues until either all but one player is left in the game or the deck is depleted, upon which the player with the highest ranked card wins.
First to win 4 rounds (collect 4 Waifus) wins the game.

Book of Star Mythology was originally a fan collaboration Music CD album. However, a full game was made a reality by Maceknight and co. via Danmakufu. The full version was released quite recently on October 14th 2016, with the Extra Stage being released on 24th December 2016.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really love the composition of the Extra Stage Theme, however its unfortunate that the stage is pretty short. The Extra Stage boss; Sanada Sengo's spellcard is pretty hard to figure out when facing it blind as one wrong move makes it rather hard to regain your footing again, thus often leading to death. In any case, I certainly do enjoy this Extra Stage, more so with Marisa B.
Also to say, the run is completely blind after the survival spellcard.

Book of Star Mythology was originally a fan collaboration Music CD album. However, a full game was made a realization by Maceknight and co. through the usage of Danmakufu. The full version was released quite recently on October 14th 2016, with the Extra Stage being scheduled to be released sometime around November.
The game sports two type of modes; Legendary Hero Mode with infinite lives and Legacy mode with the usual classic setting. Similarly to LoLK, BoSM has chapters throughout the stages as well.
A new addition from the trial version 1 is the magnitude meter system. The magnitude level decreases as more star items are collected, which further increases the point multiplier. Collecting a sufficient amount of star items would also activate the boss's Last Word spellcard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game really likes to shower you with resources, but despite that I somehow manage to botch up my first blind run with Reimu by dying to the Stage 6 boss. In any case, I really enjoyed my time with this game. The overall danmaku is pretty fun, the character designs is certainly interesting, and the music is all sorts of fun and amazing.
I must say, the Stage 6 boss certainly has that wow factor going for her. Personally, I found the music, spellcards, and stage setting gels pretty well with each other. It's been a while since I've felt the Stage 6 Boss have that feeling of a final boss. Kudo's to Maceknight and co. for that.
With Normal completed, I can't wait to dive into Hard/Lunatic mode and the Extra Stage that is scheduled this November.

Hecatia Lapislazuli's theme.
This is quite a demonic piece of music.
I actually thought about making a metal song, but I'm not well-versed in that area
and it felt like it wouldn't fit the setting, so I made it like this in the end.
My thought process was Hell -- Shinigami -- Death -- Death Metal. Pretty poor idea.

Aside from the concert, TAMusic also set up a booth in Animangaki selling his latest works from Comiket, though I hadn't expect Akai Ryuusei to be selling his stuff too.
Overall, I'm quite happy to have finally met them in person. Thank you TAMusic and Akai Ryuusei for the wonderful concert you have provided and I certainly hope you continue to enjoy the wonders of Malaysia ~

Origin: Touhou 11 - Subterranean Animism // Satori Komeiji's Theme

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is Satori Komeiji's theme.
She's the master of the Palace of the Earth Spirits. She's a little fancy and loves animals.
Actually, she should be the highest ranked enemy in Subterranean Animism, but it looks like fighting isn't her specialty.
I tried to make the song dramatic and otherworldly, too.

Touhou Shining Shooting Star's gameplay system involves the collection of meteor(star) fragments that are dropped by defeating large fairies and bosses. Collecting these fragments fills your gauge which grants you various bonus effects based on the type of fragments that were collected. For instance:
~ Blue fragment - Auto-collect items on screen
~ Red fragment - Increase shot strength
~ Green fragment - Allows you to take an extra hit without losing a life or clears all bullets on screen upon activation (similar to PCB's cherry border)

A pretty fun and challenging Extra Stage. It's one of the few Extra stages where I would constantly re-visit whenever I booted up the game. Though, a part of that reason would be due to the music which I really adored, especially the Extra Boss Theme.
Somehow, I had a lot of trouble navigating through the non-spellcard attacks. I see the pattern, however I tend to screw up really hard upon facing them. At least, Koishi does makes the entire Extra stage somewhat easier to handle, though I would definitely want to tackle this again with the other characters in future runs.

A pretty heartwarming piece by akikiki.
Exploring borders and managing the Sealing Club can get pretty tiresome at times. With that in mind, there's nothing like taking a little stroll down the forest to do a little unwinding. Have fun and enjoy nature ~

Personally, I find this game to be really beautiful, in both the character and stage design and the music. The overall danmaku pattern is pretty enjoyable, though some may find it on the easy side. For me, its sorta balanced in a way that stage 1 ~ 3 is pretty manageable, while the remaining stages ahead kicks you around pretty hard (especially stage 5 & 6 opening attacks).
The music in this game is really beautiful. There's a hint of melancholy behind a majority of these tracks, though somehow, I'm getting a huge nostalgia vibe out of it. Aside from that, I also really love the way they sync-ed up the music with the gameplay, which to me, is one of the main reason why I love the Touhou series.
Also to say, that spellcard in 29:04 looks awfully familiar.

Book of Star Mythology was originally just a fan collaboration Music CD album. However, Maceknight and company has decided to turn it into a full-fledged danmakufu title.
The game sports two type of modes; Legendary Hero Mode and Legacy Mode. Legendary Hero Mode is similar to LoLK's Point Device mode, while Legacy Mode is essentially classic mode.
The unique item presented in this title are star items, which gives you a life up with each 777 pieces collected. Bomb pieces on the other hand, are obtained upon clearing a chapter without dying.
At the current moment, this build only has Reimu as the playable character. The other characters (Marisa & Sanae) are likely to be playable in future trial releases.

The Danmaku Tournament has returned once more in Animangaki Touhou Matsuri 2015. The danmaku tournament focuses on the main core titles of the Touhou Project Series, with the exception of PoFV.
The selection of title and stages are conducted by the players / emcee in a hat drawing format. Once the selection is made, players will pit their skills against each other to see which of them can score the highest. Additionally, players are also given freedom in choosing their shot-types.
Stage difficulty is initially set to Normal. Matches is increased to Hard Mode and Extra Mode for Top 8 and Top 4 respectively.
Also to note, many thanks to Kairyu and HoiHoiSoi for their hard work in providing commentary for this tournament and hyping up the crowd, making this tournament intense and enjoyable for both the players and viewers. Though, for this video, Kairyu is busy with his danmaku matches so he is unable to commentate.
In any case, take it easy and enjoy the matches ~

Title: Pure Furies ~ Whereabouts of the Heart

Nico Source: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm27118105
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Junko's theme.
I think this song says, "now this is unmistakably the final boss!"
I didn't try to make it too complicated, or to add cool parts, or just overthink it in general.
I hope you can enjoy her danmaku simply and purely.
- ZUN@MusicRoom
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This may be the first time I have a love/hate relation towards a Touhou character. In the case of Junko, I love her character design and her theme immensely, however, her general danmaku-play is quite frustrating to go through. Regardless to that, I still find myself playing through Stage 6 more often than I normally do with the previous Touhou titles. I'm not entirely sure, but there's just something about this theme that makes me want to hop in-game and battle against her. While her danmaku is aggravating to go through, I felt some sort of encouragement to improve when listening to her theme (if that makes sense).
In any case, this is one theme that I highly look forward to see being arranged by the plethora of arrangers out there.
Aside from this arrange, there is another piano arrange of this theme on Youtube as well. You can check it out here:

I would also like to share this fantastic album as well; "Touhou Orchestral Suite ~ Grand Fantasy". This is an orchestral Touhou album created by crescentia for Touhoucon 2015:
http://crescentia.bandcamp.com/album/touhou-orchestral-suite-grand-fantasy
There's a really good orchestral arrange on Junko's theme in there. It's basically has what I was hoping to hear in an arrangement when listening to her original theme the first time; Grand, Royal, and Intense.
With all that being said, I'll be heading back to face Junko in Stage 6 yet again.

Final Match:
SuperRedOldHag VS Khairi
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Hisoutensoku King of the Hill is as you would expect. In this activity, there are two sets of queue for the participants to choose and they are free to play and retry as much as possible until the time limit runs out. As such, the winners from each queue will have to display their finest skills against each other and acquire a total of 2 points each to win the match.
Yet again, a big shoutout to our tourney emcee's Kairyu and HoiHoiSoi for their hard work in providing commentary and making this activity very much alive.
With that said, take it easy and enjoy the match ~

This song was made to invoke the image of the daily life of the fairies of Gensokyo, eating, sleeping and playing.
Overflowing with curiosity like a team of child detectives.
Fairies are like children, but they their inquisitiveness is superhuman.
I tried to put a bit of a precocious feeling in this song, too.
It's fine for these three to be like that every now and then, isn't it?

Yoshika Miyako's theme.
Although she is a Jiang Shi, she was based on a zombie, so her theme's introduction is a little exotic. But then as I was writing it I noticed that the introduction has something of an Egyptian feel, sort of like a pyramid or something.
But that would be a mummy, not a zombie...

The extra stage theme.
You never know what kind of retro youkai might pop onto the road with this song.
Youkai always seem to have such fun no matter the circumstances.
That's probably because they're enlightened by knowing exactly what their purpose in life is.

Touhou 15 ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom
Mode: Point Device
Player: kkcwkoh (Reimu)
Version: 1.00a
Wiki: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Legacy_of_Lunatic_Kingdom
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A grave incident has befallen upon Gensokyo once more. This time it relates to the invasion from the lunar capital with the objective of purifying the Earth. Upon noticing this matter, the main protagonists, Reimu, Marisa, and Sanae, sets out once more to resolve this incident. Reisen, who apparently knew of this invasion plan beforehand, begins a journey of her own to help resolve this incident as well.
The game differs from its past titles by introducing two type of modes; "PointDevice Mode" and "Legacy Mode":
PointDevice Mode can be summed up as a checkpoint system. With each death, you will restart at the last checkpoint. Life are also disabled, which makes it impossible to get a game over.
Legacy Mode is essentially classic mode.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When ZUN mentioned that he balanced the game based on Point Device mode, I knew Stage 4 ~ 6 is going to be extremely nerve wrecking. Personally, I find the overall spellcards to be rather enjoyable. However, there are a few exceptions here and there, particularly the Stage 6 Boss. While I feel that her overall attack fits her character, it seemed rather underwhelming and frustrating with those pixel perfect dodge requirements.
As I've previously mentioned, the game's music being pretty fantastic still stands. I really like how it fits incredibly well with the game's atmosphere, which certainly enhances my enjoyment when playing through the stages. Stage 5 and Stage 6 Boss Theme in particular is my favorite out of the new tracks in LoLK.
Also, that is some pretty crazy character designs right there.
Title: Last Occultism ~ Esotericist of the Present World

Possibly one of my favorite arrangement on this theme. There's just something about this arrangement that fits in very well with the mystery and urban setting that the original track offered.

Also to note, I've also recently promoted this arranger's work on the old channel (due to it being a submitted piece). The track's name is "The Rabbit Has Landed", which is a piano arrange on Seiran's theme from TH15:
