Today I show you my entry for Maizuma's 3x3 staircase entrance entry. I decided to go with a seamless design, while still paying attention to speed and size. In the end, these turned out to be its technical specification:

Opening time: 1.6 seconds
Closing time: 1.25 seconds
Size: 15x9x10 (1350 blocks)

It was quite a fun challenge, so I've got Maizuma to thank for inspiring me to work on this. :) For more information or a short explanation of the machine's inner workings, watch the video. Enjoy! Also, anyone who can figure out why I went with birch wooden stairs gets an imaginary diamond. ;-)
