The spot was written and produced by John Cafiero (Osaka Popstar) and stars the band's new 'Crunchy Crossbones’ mascot as voiced by Roger L. Jackson, best known as the voice of Mojo Jojo in the classic animated series "The Powerpuff Girls," and the voice of Ghostface in the “Scream" horror film franchise. Featuring animation by Todd Cronin of Fishtoonz Animation and original artwork by Butch Lukic (Batman the Animated Series), Nemons (Gary Hall), Mari-chan, Joel Veitch (Rather Good), Dalek, Tragnark, Josh Howard (Dead @ 17 comics) and Sam Fout!
Fronted and produced by longtime Misfits and Ramones collaborator John Cafiero, “Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk” features a backing band of super luminary original punk rock super heroes, including Jerry Only (The Misfits), Marky Ramone (The Ramones), Dez Cadena (Black Flag), and Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & the Voidoids), plus a special guest appearance by indie music icon Daniel Johnston. They rip through a roller coaster of high-speed hooks and catchy choruses, recalling the very best of New York City punk rock.
If classic NY punk, anime, cult movies, comic books and toys formed a band on a sugar rush it would sound like Osaka Popstar.
“The Best ‘Punk’ Album in 25 Years. Osaka Popstar is a high concept project that bashes through generational barriers. They combine roots-punk style music a la the Buzzcocks, the Undertones, the Ramones, and the Misfits, and then incorporate this into Japanese Saturday morning cartoon imagery. It’s sort of like the Archies on steroids, or the Fountains Of Wayne on amphetamines. Osaka Popstar have perfected a near-miraculous combination of fun and catharsis that leaves you breathless, exhausted, and completely satisfied.” – American Hit Network
“You should be warned… The verses are catchier than many a groups’ choruses, and the choruses are like three-chord crack. And similarly irresistible.” – Classic Rock Magazine
“The existence of the Osaka Popstar’s debut is further proof that God loves the Ramones. The album is a phenomenal ode to power pop and deeply infectious pop punk. Inspired heavily by Japanese Animation (check out the album art work and the two music videos)… it should be standard issue for every punk popper wannabe even dreaming about starting a band.” – AMP (American Music Press-Monthly)
Produced & Arranged by longtime Misfits & Ramones collaborator John Cafiero.
Digital single available @ iTunes, Amazon & digital music providers worldwide.

Hear the bells…See these claws…Feel these fangs…then Hop Like a Ghost!
What exactly is a Hopping Ghost...? Known as Jiangshi in Chinese folklore and kyonshī in Japan, hopping ghosts or hopping vampires are basically a breed of zombie; reanimated corpses dressed in traditional garments from the Qing Dynasty. Rigor mortis has set in so they can only move around by hopping with their arms outstretched! They can't see using traditional vision, instead, they sense living creatures by their breath and seek to absorb the life force of the living. They can be stopped with a scroll to the forehead containing a spell written in a mix of ink and blood, and led by Taoist priests using bells. Some of the streets of Chinatown in NYC (like Doyers st. for example), are said to have been intentionally designed crooked to deter Hopping Ghost attacks; making it difficult for them to navigate through them. The mythology even inspired a string of fantastic Hong Kong films in the 1980s, most notably the "Mr. Vampire" series directed by Ricky Lau and starring the immortal Lam-Ching Ying. Ying is often referred to as the "Peter Cushing of Asia" and both he and Lau are given props by Cafiero on the box of the new "Hopping Ghosts" vinyl figures. In an effort to achieve true authenticity, the spell found on the scroll accessory of the Osaka Popstar "Hopping Ghosts" vinyl figures (and seen on the art for the new single), was written by an actual Taoist priest residing in Hong Kong. Beware of cheap imitations, look for official "Hopping Ghosts" vinyl figures available now from Osaka Popstar!

Those who find themselves quickly endeared to the cult of Klaus Beyer join a discerning fan base that includes Osaka Popstar's John Cafiero himself, and the likes of Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore.
The same lo-fi techniques applied to Beyer's 13 year mission of covering the entire Beatles catalog stands true to form. Utilizing the original instrumental music beds of "Osaka Popstar & the American Legends of Punk" (featuring guest appearances in the backing band by members of the Misfits, Ramones, Black Flag, & more), Beyer delivers an oddly appealing & wholly unusual vocal performance sure to please fans of his eccentric Beatles work, the "Adult Swim" generation, & those with an appreciation for the truly unusual.
The "Shaolin Affen" music video was shot on Super 8 film by notorious cult director Jörg Buttgereit (Nekromantik, Der Todesking, Captain Berlin vs. Hitler), transforming 60-year-old Beyer into an 80's punk. The video & the EP itself was produced in association with Frank Behnke, former Mutter guitarist, and documentary filmmaker whose credits include the making of David Lynch's film "Blue Velvet".
Digital EP featuring three music videos available worldwide @ iTunes starting July 17th, 2012.
Beyer's work isn't limited to any single form of media either. His visual artistry, (sold & exhibited in galleries worldwide), materializes in original illustrations representing the songs on the EP's sleeve art. These illustrations, (some seen in the video), interact with photos by Behnke and Buttgereit, to visualize the surreal world of Klaus Beyer and "Die Shaolin Affen" EP.
Track Listing:
1.) Shaolin Affen (Shaolin Monkeys)
2.) Monster (Monsters)
3.) Wo ist der Käpt'n? (Where's the Cap'n?)
