Puzzles are often some of the most intricate challenges in gaming. Some games are puzzles to learn to play some games are technical puzzles of master development to blend everything together and some games are of course fully made to be a puzzle, a whole genre! You could argue that chess is the ultimate culmination of all three of these. It’s a complex game to learn the basics, it’s debatably the hardest game of all time to master, and its development is nothing short of timeless. Now what if I told you that there was a game of chess built inside of a video game that has been complex to develop over its 11 years. It’s definitely a puzzle to play , and certainly a puzzle to master.. But this puzzle was actually a game of chess itself (show the cutscene with the chess piece falling) inside of a game of chessinside of an ARG of 4096 random variance, hourly changing combinations each with their own chess board. This was a moment suspended in time for those who were there and the reward is befittingly a “Bungie Moment” if there ever was one! Over the course of 48 hours the Destiny community brought together some of the most insane coders, puzzle solvers, and goofy story tellers that they could! Over the years this game would keep on improving and improving to the point that now the second game has been in early access and has smashed all kinds of feats and broken sales metrics nobody thought possible! So with all of that information.. The elephant in the room pokes its trunk.. how would someone who only played Destiny and now warframe feel about an ARPG? A somewhat adjacent experience, but I have had little to no experience with this genre of game other than knowing that loot has rarity and that builds are important.. Yeah i have no other place to even begin with a point of my personal experience! So when I say that I got to play Path of Exile 2 thanks to the folks at Grinding Gear Games and loved my time with it.. Well you’ll just have to believe me here! Path of Exile 2 is like what I imagined the golden ages ARPGs were like when my brother and his friends would talk about them! A heavy, rewarding, and challenging experience that doesn’t do too much hand-holding and makes me delve into the burrows of sweat buried beneath my finest gaming chair! A constant challenge that keeps building on itself and that absurd realization that not even 100 hours into the game you’d still be not understanding the depth that the game has to offer! That is a scary sentence, but I don’t want it to sound like climbing mount everest since the community is unbelievably helpful and the game is fun even in its earliest stages!
