While I knew it was theoretically a simple task - 'Just paint a couple of miniatures each day!' it turned out to be far, far faster to just blast through one step over and over and over on as many miniatures as possible at a time. This did lead to one or two marathon painting sessions!
What I forgot to mention was just how useful the metallic Speedpaints were. While the Hoplite Gold and Broadsword Silver went on from a brush, the Polished Silver and Pallid Bone Speedpaint Markers also made an appearance while doing odd little finishing touches on things like belt skulls and the ribbing on the back of some of the MkII armour. So the very first and the very latest of The Army Painter's products saved the day for sure!
So, once more and at last, thank you to everyone at The Army Painter who agreed to this ludicrous undertaking and helped make it happen. I really couldn't have done this without their support and input. If you've been watching the channel with any regularity over the last year or so you'll likely have seen just how regularly I reach for Army Painter paints first, so painting an entire army using their stuff wasn't really a big ask - it's probably how I would have done it naturally, anyway!
Now, to put down the paint brush for a couple of days...! 🤪

THE BASE:
Start with a thin layer of Stirland Mud. Add tufts, then more Stirland Mud, working it into the tufts so they look clogged and grimy. Lightly overbrush a grimy, yellowish brown - Ive used Vallejo Flat Earth - and once dry, dab gloss varnish puddles on the base around the bottom of the tuft clods. Paint the base rim in a dark brown and done!

No, the colour scheme chosen isnt some carefully coded message. Its a common pattern, and with white commonly being perceived as difficult to paint, it seemed a good choice to tackle something this large with a relatively simple method thats easy to replicate at home.
The best thing about the early medieval period is that during the early 13th Century, rules around heraldry werent yet codified, and there was a lot of leeway in what anything would mean or relate to. Simple geometric shapes and patterns are easy to paint, and whether as a uniform for a questing band of knights or with each of them painted in a different manner, it doesnt take much to swap colours around and get a wonderfully diverse range of heroes on the table.

Convicted of multiple war crimes and crimes against humanity, it was declared a criminal organization during the Nuremburg trials. The 14th Army was made of men from Great Britain, India, and Africa, sent to Burma to resist the onslaught of the Imperial Japanese Army. General Slims Forgotten Army was overlooked by press of the time and in many publications since as a sideshow to the real war taking place in the ETO, MTO and the Russian front - a real feat considering the 14th Army represented the largest combined army in the Commonwealth and one of the largest in operation in the world.

THE BASE:
Put down a layer of PVA and sprinkle liberally with basing sand. Let it dry, then paint with thinned-down Vallejo Flat Brown. Once dry, overbrush liberally with Vallejo Brown Sand, then drybrush with Vallejo Dark Sand. Add dots of PVA and static grass to taste, or use tufts you like.

3 parts Dark Tone (Army Painter Wash)
3 parts Reikland Fleshshade (Citadel Shade)
