New York Trip 2017 Day 3: Ellis Island lawrence5584 2017-11-14 | Nearly 9 years after my first trip to New York, and after 4 months of saving and planning, Tyler and I found ourselves in The Big Apple.Day 3 midday saw Tyler and I visiting Ellis Island; once the gateway for thousands of immigrants to a new life in America, now a museum dedicated to the history of immigration.Visiting this site really hit home how all of us, save Native Americans, are immigrants in this country and this continent. It really brings to light the unfairness of modern day discrimination towards those of us who recently immigrated.
New York Trip 2017 Day 3: Statue Of Liberty lawrence5584 2017-11-08 | Nearly 9 years after my first trip to New York, and after 4 months of saving and planning, Tyler and I found ourselves in The Big Apple.Day 3 morning saw us visiting one of the most famous monuments in New York: The Statue of Liberty. I had visited the statue back in 2009, but had been unable to fully appreciate the grounds and statue due to security issues. Seeing this physical embodiment of the ideals of life, liberty and freedom never ceases to take my breath away. Seeing the awe and wonder in another person's eyes when they see it for the first time was icing on the cake.
New York Trip 2017 Day 2 lawrence5584 2017-11-08 | Nearly 9 years after my first trip to New York, and after 4 months of saving and planning, Tyler and I found ourselves in The Big Apple.Day 2 saw Tyler and I touring Central Park in depth, hitting some movie landmarks from "Home Alone 2", "Balto" and the animated series "Gargoyles". The day also saw us at Macy's, where we shopped till we dropped, and discovered a Starbucks location reminiscent to the one I started at 8 years ago. Indulging my sweet tooth, I also made a pit stop at M&M'S World, where I experienced chocolate overload. After a quick nap and freshening up, we ended our day at Applebee's for dinner, finishing with front row seats at "The Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway.

The Life of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) lawrence5584 2014-09-29 | Multiple sclerosis (MS), also known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata, is an inflammatory disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged, resulting in physical, mental, and sometimes psychiatric problems.Over the past two years I've watched Tyler deal with this condition, and in that time have been confronted by not just my own ignorance of what the disease is and how it affects one's life, but also how ignorant the populace in general is with regards to this condition.There is no known cure for MS, and current medical options are utilized to slow the progression of the disease, with varying degrees of success and side effects.For more information on this disease, along with information on charities which help fund research, please consult your doctor. My Niece Brooklyns Fourth Birthday lawrence5584 2014-09-06 | While living at a great distance from family has it's many drawbacks, one of the greatest parts of it is being able to sweep into town and declare a holiday. And when that holiday happens to be your niece's fourth birthday, so much the better.While I have three nieces total on my Father's side and one on my Mother's, Brooklyn and I have always shared a special bond, forged from the fact my first independent visit to my Windsor kin since the estrangement with my Father coincided with her birth.In addition, Brooklyn's birth came at almost the same time as my Grandmother's passing. Thus she brought a little joy back into my life. Finally, she was the first of the next generation of my family to be born, which transitioned all my cousins and I officially from "children" to "adults".A special thanks to Brooklyn's amazing parents, my cousin Chris and his wife Heather for inviting me. They are the type of parents that everyone prays for, and it shows in what an incredible girl their daughter is becoming. I am truly blessed to call them my kin.
