Emily Pencil This is a detailed and step-by-step run-through of how I make my decisions about planners and journals to use. I’ve written out all the questions I ask myself at each stage below, along with a few ‘rules’ that I guess are more like guidelines too. Feel free to use the same method, adapt it for yourself, and let me know your thoughts on the process (I may have missed something crucial out after all!) Thanks for watching!

My general rules/guidelines when it comes to choosing and using Planners/Journals:

1. Allow blank pages (and also abandoned books in extreme circumstances haha)

2. Stay within/around budget (no guilt if going over but important to have as a guideline)

3. No duplications (not doubling up my work and time by having the same thing written the same in two different place)

4. Need - Use - Spend (Define the need, explore how I could use a planner/journal to meet that need, and then spend the money. Not the reverse order!)

5. Practical / Creative (In general, keep them separate. I like to keep practical planning free of creative ‘clutter’, and in other places go overboard with décor where no planning/practicality is involved)

6. Planners by Use (I like to have separate books for separate uses/functions)
