Just IcelandicBuilding a channel with drones as the main tool to get footage was neither easy nor cheap, and along the way I have had to deal with all sorts of problems, but at the end of the day, the main problem is myself. Sometimes it was the lack of experience that caught me off guard, like not knowing my gear, and "lazy type of mistakes" when i should have known better, trying to cut corners. But i''m perfectly happy with the results though, and only just started as i look at this journey here on the channel. My new DJI Mavic 4 pro is a fantastic drone, by far my best drone so far, so the goal is of course to improve the quality of my work as it's getting easier for me now to deal with low light and other tricky conditions.

GylfiWill The Earthqukes In West Iceland Lead To A Volcanic Eruption Soon?Just Icelandic2025-08-19 | We have been witnessing a science debate about the magma accumulation at 20 km. depth in west Iceland or if it's likely to lead to a volcanic eruption within 3 years, perhaps even way sooner since after the magma is a 10km depth, things move fast, and many of the earthquakes are now moving upwards. This will therefore be a location of great interest for the months to come and i will try to find time to do more filming around there when i drive by next time.

We see how the colour have already started to chenge, and even more clearly by the end of the video as it's colder climate by the mouth of the fjord, Eyjafjörður. GylfiHelicopter tour in Iceland - Þórisjökull Glacier and the melted Glacier Called OkJust Icelandic2025-08-13 | I recently received a generous invitation to join an American viewer on a helicopter tour to Þórisjökull glacier and the former glacier with the simple name Ok that is actually a huge shield volcano. The trip taught me a lot because I have long aimed to take photos from an airplane or helicopter and invested in versatile equipment like a Nikon Z8 camera that turned out to be totally useless for video due to the Robinson helicopter "natural shaking"
But my sports-camera had a window mount that saved the day, but i didn't expect so much reflection since i placed the lens very close to the glass. So although the tours didn't turn out exactly how i hoped, it was extremely useful in order to prevent my future investments in tours like this to turn out poorly as i need "documentary quality" for some of my future work.

GylfiVolcano Tour Update - My Channel Is Not A Smooth Ride But The Summer Is Not OverJust Icelandic2025-08-12 | I had and still have high expectations for this summer when it comes to filming but life isn't always a smooth ride. and although the last 2 weeks burned way too much of my production resources, time and energy. I'm not going to let it interrupt the rest of the summer. So i will be chasing weather after this fix i mentioned in the video, doing 1-3 day long tours from Akureyri when the weather looks promising, and i actually have the feeling that i will need to do a volcano update quite soon, but note that i'm not making any predictions at all, this is just Iceland, it's a bit shaky place :)

GylfiVolcano Update - Magma Underway In West Iceland - At 10km Depth NowJust Icelandic2025-08-01 | The magma on the move in west Iceland is now up to 10km depth but it was at over 20km depth just weeks ago so something is obviously cooking down there. That situation is even more strange then the Reykjanes peninsula. and the overall activity in Iceland is quite unbelievable, i must say as some of the huge systems are also getting ready.
Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel With Greetings from Iceland. GylfiThe Otherworldly Landscape Above the Mantle Plume in Central IcelandJust Icelandic2025-07-31 | This is not just a landscape tour with full 360 view, and detours, this is also a region that is generally believed to be directly above the hot spot under Iceland, the mantle plume, which is the source of the extreme volcanism on my island here in the middle of the Atlantic. So although i didn't get my crisp clear "documentary light" this day, i got some of the mystical elements that makes us want to come back, again and again despite the harsh environment and climate. Both those major systems, Bárðarbunga and Askja are actively accumulating magma to write new pages into the history of Iceland, we dont know when, but the new chapters could be quite colourful. I therefore hope that this video helps my viewers to understand the landscape elements up there since i'm making frequent volcano updates from this region and my videos are as always designed to bring you closer to the element of Iceland, unfiltered.

Gylfi360 Drone Circle Over No Mans Land - The Highland Volcanoes Of IcelandJust Icelandic2025-07-27 | This 360 tour didn't turn out as expected due to weather but it did however deliver weird highland mood so it belongs to my video selection of course. I filmed on my way back from Askja volcano which can be seen for a little while behind Mt. Herðubreið (1682 meters high) is often called the Queen of Icelandic Mountains. and it's a table mountain, also known as a “tuya” or “flat-topped mountain, although there is a crater up there.
The drone starts facing the south where we first notice the piramyd shaped Upptyppingar tuff mountains and magma has been accumulating under there for some time now. then we see Kverkfjöll mountains on Vatnajökull glacier and the lava field surrounding Herðubreið is Ódáðahraun, the largest lava field in Iceland that deserves it's own story some day. So as usual i'm doing as much filming in every tour in order to cover this land with a documentary some day. But i hope this gives you an idea about the mood there.

GylfiVolcano Update Day 7 - Over 300.000 tons of Sulphur Dioxide So FarJust Icelandic2025-07-22 | The air pollution may have peaked yesterday but it's still bad, not just for tourism but it's a general health concern as well as the levels are worse then we have seen during the other 11 eruptions so far. The wind might however work with us, although i cannot promise anything of course, just use the tools we have and the webcams around the country, the situation here in the north is good again, and we hope it stays like this, but i just got my car from the show, the part installation went wrong, as things look now, so i'm giving it a try to capture some volcano footage, and maybe even to the highlands on the way back to make up for the lost time for filming.

GylfiUnfiltered Iceland in 4K - Over 100 Drone Landings - Unique Landscape CompilationJust Icelandic2025-07-20 | This is not the highly curated tourist version of Iceland but it's a very honest version from over 100 of my drone flights back to the car, usually returning from channel missions. I got this idea after drone missions started to fill up my hard drives and i usually do a rough cut after trips where i remove all unwanted takes that often include the landing approach. But the common theme of those clips is of course my car, or my friends cars so i figured that a landing compilation video might be fun to watch since this is just Iceland as is, my landing spots, sometimes dull, sometimes very nice, but 100% true in various conditions. I have actually promised highly curated drone tours on my channel for some time and it's an ongoing task to film enough to make long drone videos like i want them. So in a way, this is also a "behind the scenes" video that cover the huge project to gather the best of Iceland into sevral "Iceland 4K compilation videos" when i feel as i have all i need to make it outstanding.
Channel support is therefore highly appreciated since big part of my work is long term investment in footage in one of the most expensive country in the world.

So this eruption looks quite "simple" but it's still room for surprises like we know trough the past 11 eruptions, but we still remain very hopeful for a good outcome, also for business owners in Grindavik who were struggling with with man made obstacles all day, but the village was opened for tourists just minutes before this upload, just to make the clear.

GylfiDriving Tour by Askja Volcano in Iceland - Where Astronauts Practiced in 1967Just Icelandic2025-07-17 | This is in a way the first leg of the way to the moon since this is where Neil Armstrong and his fellow astronauts practised by this volcano before the Apollo missions due to this out of this world landscape. It's only accessible by car from June until September when the first snow closes the highland road. The map link below cover this part of the Askja road but there are several routes up there and i recommend road.is for general information, or a tourist service since it's easy. The light up there is very strange, it can range from the most dull landscape in the world to weird popping colours from extreme volcanism and pumice from the 1875 eruption, but we start this tour on the lava from 1961. Ground uplift has been detected by Aslkia volcano and we expect the next eruption to occur sooner than later, and feel tree to chek out mi mini doc about Askja for all about the history of this extremely powerful volcano.

GylfiHighland Contrasts by Askja Volcano in Iceland - The Ultimate Mavic 4 Pro TestJust Icelandic2025-07-05 | This is a sample from my first highland tour in 2025 and i returned with lots of footage from the 2 days of filming and decided to do just a trailer now since i'm just stopping by at my desk for a short time now. The purpose of this part of the tour to get more footage for a new version of my Askja volcano mini doc. That task went nicely but i also managed to capture lots of other scenes, suitable for other projects.
As for the drone footage, i didn't''t shoot this in D-Log M for maximum dynamic range but i used that feature however to make a few clips to compare. I usually shoot everything in manual but i've been giving the Mavic 4 a chance to do better than me, and it't actually doing a fine job, but the opening shot is where the Mavic 4 Pro got to shine, bright sky v/s very dark sand in shadow. This is a shot that my older drones would have struggled with for sure. In order not to clip the skies, the sand could have ended up with huge amount of low light noise. But that wasn't the case. So that clip alone, and the whole tour actually, was a terrific lesson in demanding conditions and even without D-Log M which is a bit boring to colour grade, the Mavic 4 did a fantastic job.

GylfiEpic Pilot Whale Rescue - Heartwarming Action Story From IcelandJust Icelandic2025-06-27 | I happened to be there right from the start and the plan was to film for my towns series and shoot a few aerial photographs so whales were not on my schedule, but what a unique chance i got so used it to the fullest of course. I captured the before, during and after footage i needed for a longer video because some of the footage is quite good, but the reason for the beaching still remains a certain mystery. I was replacing the drone battery when the first group beached, and the others followed soon thereafter. That is where the video opens where the local policeman is likely calling for assistance that arrived soon. After the beaching drone overview shots where i actually captured the next group strand, i took the Nikon with my zoom lens down to the coast where i filmed for a while, and i shot lots of fast exposure shots as well. So this is only a tiny fraction of what i shot this day, but it gives you honest glimpse into the mentality thar ruled the actions this day, and i dont have to say it, but i already have my favourite rescue worker there, and she did a fantastic job, like they all actually because the sea is cold there and this wasn't easy. Lots of this footage is available on Shutterstock & Pond5 sites trough the links below.

But the former residents of Grindavik wants to return, and it's no surprise to me. The local car club is good at getting owners to show their cars every now and then and this irresistible sight caught my eye the other day. Note that many of the cars have older generation registration plates that have only one letter representing the car's home region and vars in Akureyri had the letter A. Although a new type of registration plate was introduced decades ago, the vintage registrations plates are allowed and it is especially popular here in Akureyri. It is even more popular to buy your own registration number with letters, or names of choice up to 6 letters and /or numbers. Such numbers are very popular here in Iceland and here in Akureyri are hundred of numbers with the letter A and dad's or grandpa's licence number, within the new system.

GylfiVolcano Update - Is The Episode By Grindavik Over And What About The Other Systems?Just Icelandic2025-06-06 | Todays tour covers the volcanic systems that have above-average unrest while I show you nature videos and we end the trip on the Reykjanes Peninsula that keeps on teasing us, although the chapter by Grindavik may be over and done with in a matte of few months, but is it the case? I'm not sure, i have the feeling that this just started, but the experts might be right about Grindavík though, unless the magma inflow does a similar trick on us as last year. This is just so unpredictable scenario...

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel. Greetings from Iceland. GylfiThe New Channel Gadget - DJI Mavic 4 Pro And The Icelandic SummerJust Icelandic2025-06-04 | It's finally here, the new gadget i promised to tell you about recently but it's a game changer when it comes to filming some of our larger volcanic systems and more. Iv'e actually been working with very modest equipment right from the start and i could get away with that in many of my channel tasks, but to expand my services into the Icelandic market to make ends meet, that was necessary task since my channel is simply not very big yet, and definitely not very stable as for view count. The thermal drone was my first goal and it took me several months go go trough the Nikon upgrade when i include the lenses, and to upgrade from a consumer drone to a more professional tool has been my goal for a long time, but it was sensible to wait in this case.
My goal is of course to keep on investing my time in Youtube tasks, but while i'm forming the tourist part of the channel, it's just lots work and limited views until i have several hundred such videos online, and until such time, i need to earn a living, and deal with travel expenses in a very expensive country, and the sensible way to do so was to form my freelance service into something more, and competing in that market in an organized manner was impossible unless I had excellent equipment to back up my marketing experience. So i will open up my homepage soon since the new drone was the last gadget on my list before i finalize my concept. But don't think for a moment that i'm putting less work work in Youtube, my operation in Iceland is meant share travel expenses between tasks because i'm after all making a video series covering every village in Iceland, and all our main tourist attractions, and it's impossible to do so without income from related tasks.
The volcano coverage has of course helped the channel a lot, especially early on but like i expected all the time, it wasn't going to last, so my work on the tourist part of the channel is a long term investment for stable view count into the longer future. But as for future volcano coverage, the super the new drone is likely the best tool in the world for such tasks, so i wil only be delivering better work during future volcanic activity in my country.
Many thanks to all who pitched in over the years, i really needed the boost from the tool fun this time and the next videos will be online very soon.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel with greetings from Iceland. GylfiIceland 4K - 27 Random Drone Landing LocationsJust Icelandic2025-05-31 | At some point in time i got the idea to keep a few seconds from all drone landing approaches but such footage usually ends up in the bin after i colour grade, tag and sort the footage from drone tours. But the many and very diverse landing spots have a real story about my travels so i started to keep such clips regardless of whether they were technically good, and when i started to see that this idea was actually usable. So i started to do a little extra turns to show off the landscape when i remembered to do so but this was shot with 4 drones since 2021 and the car where i land is sometimes my old blue Honda, but more often the white Landcruises, and my friend's jeep will appear in this and other similar videos to come since this is only a part og my collection, so see if this is working for my audiance.

But the village is nice, i reccomend the museum and it's a good place to play around with drones and other camera gear.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel With Greetings from Iceland. GylfiSummer Solstice in Iceland - What Makes It My Favourite Season?Just Icelandic2025-05-25 | This is why i check the weather forecast frequently when the summer solstice approaches because it's the time of wonders as the sun bathes us days and night, but we don't get lucky all the time of course and the location is also a big issue like the camera gear. As for these time-lapse sequences i have this to say because i made several mistakes.
Time Lapse 1 was shot from the High North, near Raufarhöfn villaage and i used way too much zoom since my wide lens was just way too wide for the job. (15-30mm) so i soon lost the chance to do the full curve in one take without moving the camera. But i wanted to show the curve first and foremost, and with a little re-framing in the time-lapse you see this odd and soft summer solstice curve.
The second time lapse was shot from Akureyri when the sun was on it's annual trajectory by the mouth of the fjord Eyjafjörður in late June. And wow how frustrated i was when i noticed all the sensor dust but this was not the evening to mess up my footage. But i liked the outcome so i kept the file and did some dudt repairs, but it's need a bit more before i use it for something else then a time lapse.
And this is more and less just to show you why it's my favourite season and i look forward to do work like this with my upgraded camera gear but my old Nikon D750 was better with photos then videos, and i will take off with a clean sensor next time.

And i'm not done of course, this is in fact just a sample and it's here where i first got the idea that i should maybe have proper camera gear to film from a plane in addition the drone shots, and i got that camera gear last year so the next step is to finance a trip to take filming from here up to the next level and make it into a documentary by time, where i will use my footage to ask scientists abput this remarkable event that we should now more about, in my opinion.

GylfiGuided Icelandic Town Visit - Hrafnagil - Where its Christmas Every DayJust Icelandic2025-04-25 | The Christmas Village Hrafnagil is something different or a business idea that turned the village upside down and simply worked from it's simplicity. The towns surrounding is of course a big part of the concept but they managed to keep on going for over 20 years now. I am however covering the village Hrafnagil as any other village in Iceland and doing the deep Eyjafjörður valley justice all the way to the highlands with a few sensible tips since Hrafnagil is by the (F821) road up to the highlands that leads us to Sprengisandur. But F842 from Bárðardalur is usually way easier like F762 from Skagafjörður. But always seek information like at road.is since those roads changes from year to year so my advise now might not be valid after some time.
But the Hólafjall road i showed you, it was only because it was the only shot i had over the landslide, don't even think about it unless you have a Super-Jeep and a very skilled driver. It's the road that was made before the F821 and it's hardly ever used and often dangerous, We could not make it all the way when i shot this, and we were fine with it actually. But like i mentioned before, i will do the highland roads justice later with videos like this: youtu.be/1ttpc42_W7I

GylfiEaster Skiing Tour in North-Iceland - The Last Chance This Winter - Hlíðarfjall Ski ResortJust Icelandic2025-04-21 | I had to get some mountain fun during this bright sunny day since the yellow season will take over soon and i don't like that colour palette to be honest. Akureyri has always been the best ski resort in Iceland, but despite the name of my country, the supply of snow is not constant, not even here in the north around 80 km. south of the arctic circle. This winter was actually not very snowy but this important weekend got somehow rescued with a few snowy days recently in addition to the snow machines that helped a lot. And this is not me on the lift, just a happy skier enjoying the view like me. The trip ends with view to the north and notice how snowy the east cost of the fjord really is, all the way down to the coast. This is Látraströnd coast, where my Granny was born and raised and i have a new video online that covers that coastal road here: youtu.be/FyA0TLOv2Mw
The Hlíðarfjall ski resort usually opens in December or January and offers 8 ski lifts than can carry you to an elevation of 950 meters, and many prefer to do a little additional hiking to the top for cross country skiing and fantastic view. Skiing is still is a growing part of the tourism in Akureyri and supports other industries such as hotels, and restaurant services.

I'm very grateful for all the kind wishes for a good outcome, and since many of these guests on the channel are not likely to visit Iceland again, I decided like to give them the opportunity to see their old workplace after we Icelanders took over most of the base in 2016. Most of the residential houses are still as they were after a 220V upgrade to meet our European standards, but local companies have taken over many of the industrial units that were left there, like companies in the tourism industry. This area is still a bot raw and unfinished, and might never become a "nice Icelandic town" but at lest we put them into good use.

So this new report left things wide open, and the largest earthquake so far it didn't help either as it sometimes seems as the earthquakes are moving upwards, and it takes magma only 30 hrs. to make it to the surface from the mantle, if the coast is clear. So it looks as i will invest more time in this system than i expected while making my new year video.
