482. Autumn Beauty!! Part II Of An Incredible Color Palette!! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-10-07 | #fallcolors #autumnvibes #diypainting Hi all! The Fluid Art Co is getting ready to release some new pigment colors on October 13, and I got my hands on a few of their new colors! Today's fluid art video will highlight the beauty of Billabong and Wild Atlantic; both of which played beautifully with Golden's Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and Iridescent Gold Bright. I also used some Golden Titan Green Pale, which I initially poo-poo'ed but boy was I wrong! The color accentuated the rest perfectly! I'm so taken with this color scheme that this is part 2 of a 3 part series (each better than the last in my opinion) and I might do a fourth! I'm also using a 12x24 canvas! I haven't used this size since I moved out of my kitchen in January! It's a little tricky doing the bloom technique on a canvas that is long and narrow as you don't want it to look too leggy, but I think I pulled it off! Also at Home Depot.Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); and Valspar High Gloss Ultra Base C Untinted base (Lowe's). 50/50. Mix well. NO varnish added! Use the colors of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium.Golden, Atelier, and Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. Mind-Blowing Results! Mesmerizing Three Cup Straight Paint Pour! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-08-29 | #fluidart #straightpour #paintpouringHi all! Still unable to go to the studio with my broken ankle, so I hope you don't mind one more of the summer rewind series! This is the finale from the vault! This fluid art painting video is nearly 5 years old; the original is number 52. I used a crazy combo of Elmer's Glue All and Liquitex Pouring Medium and Varnish as my pouring medium. Not sure why, it seems to be a waste of a professional PM to add glue, but I was young and naive and inexperienced LOL. I don't really recommend the pouring medium recipe, but since I cut a 43-minute video down to 17, I've listed the colors and brands in case you want to give it a go with your own pouring medium recipe. I thought this was was super pretty and was a precursor to my Southwest theme paintings. I will be back with new content soon; enjoy the summer series! This fluid art painting is a combination of a sandwich pour (where you layer the colors between two big batches of white), and a straight pour with silicone! 475. Gorgeous Straight Pour!! Summer Rewind Series! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-08-15 | #fluidart #straightpour #flipcup Hi all! I'm home from PourCon in Las Vegas! What a wonderful, tremendous event! I'm am lucky to have escape the COVID curse, but did discover that what I thought was a sprained ankle is actually broken! My dog Finn bolted while on lead that I took a nasty fall. I'm not sure when I can paint in my studio again (navigating the stairs to a second floor studio probably isn't a good ideal); so for now, please enjoy this older, repurposed video where I am not happy with a flip and lip design and opt for a straight fluid art pour instead. I was really happy with the final results, and if memory serves, this piece sold rather quickly. Because this is an older video, the colors/brands and pouring medium recipe comes up on the screen rather than here in the description section. Hopefully in a few days I will be able to paint in my kitchen and go over my newer recipe for the Grandma's Flip Cup class I taught at PourCon. 469. Shifty Series Pt 2: Color Shift on White; Does It Work? DONT MISS! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-07-22 | #fluidart #bloomtechnique #diyartHi all! After the success of my last painting, it was time to compare color shift paints on a white base! This is another 16/x20 but I left it more as a big SheleeArt bloom technique instead of deconstruct bloom technique. I won't spoil the surprise because the final results sure are pretty; but there is a difference in how the color shift paints look. I looked up the differences between color shift and iridescent, and it's subtle: iridescent paints have a subtle shift between colors; whereas true color shift paints have a metallic look when dried and the shift is more pronounced. 468. The Shifty Series! DONT MISS the INCREDIBLE Color-Shift Results Of This Deconstructed Bloom!! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-07-19 | #fluidart #bloomtechnique #diyartHi all! I was at Sherwin Williams buying wall paint for a bathroom remodel, and broke down and bought a couple quarts of Color To Go in Tricorn Black. It makes a really nice pillow for anything bloom technique related. I rarely use a black base and felt overdue; and wanted to experiment with color shift and/or iridescent paints. I looked up the differences between color shift and iridescent, and it's subtle: iridescent paints have a subtle shift between colors; whereas true color shift paints have a metallic look when dried and the shift is more pronounced. That was certainly true here; the color shift is really unbelievable--especially in person, and this deconstructed bloom piece just GLOWS. Pictures don't do it justice!! I was so enamored I'm going to create two more, one with a white base to see if the shift is as prevalent (I assume not), and one more in black. In this exciting YouTube video, I decided to try something new: creating miniature deconstructed blooms on an 8x8 inch canvas. Little did I know, it would prove to be quite a challenge!With limited space to blow the paint and a shortage of room for tilting, I had to get creative. Armed with my trusty paint scraper, I took charge and bossed the paint around, hoping to form a decent composition. As I stared at the smooshed puddle I had created, I eagerly spun it out, willing it to transform into something beautiful.After 2 hours and 5 attempts, I finally achieved a result that exceeded my expectations. 453. Go Big or Go Home! Deconstructed Bloom Transformation - You Wont Believe the Results! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-04-22 | #fluidart #bloomtechnique #arthack Hi all! The lighting in my studio is finally fixed so I can use my giant tabletop! Even though I keep saying this is a 3 foot canvas, it's actually a 30"x30". I guess 36"x36" is next; then 4 feet! Anyway, this is my first large canvas and I was quite nervous so as to not waste all that paint. Originally I thought I would just do a big bloom, but I ended up tilting and spinning, and some of the tilting was done off camera as I was worried about leaving too much paint on the canvas. I really like the composition and I was able to tilt and spin off enough purple so it didn't take over. This one will get varnished and framed. Mix well! Add PM to your colors at a 1:1 ratio, and augment as needed with a little more PM to get the desired consistency. I prefer my paints on the thick side so that no cells appear after you flip the cup. I leave a 2 second trace in the cup. After mixing my colors, I add 2-3 drops of Spot On Treadmill Silicone to all colors except white. Stir gently--you want to mix the silicone with the colors but not break it up too much or you'll get a million baby cells.Pigments used are This Little Piggy in Cresendo and Sea Glass. To disburse the pigments, I used 1/2 tsp. and wet with JoSonja Gloss Varnish (just enough to make the pigment a liquid). Once liquid, I added two heaping tablespoons of Golden Regular Gel Gloss; mix well. This will thicken up the pigments considerably to a tube paint consistency; then you can add your pouring medium. 451. Level Up Your Fluid Art! Must See!! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-04-12 | #fluidart #deconstructedbloom #cracklepasteHi all! Do you have a so-so piece of art that you can't quite part with because there are areas that are super pretty? This might be the answer for you! This is a voice over of a much, much longer video where I decide to use crackle paste to create a composition on a deconstructed bloom painting that I wasn't happy with. This is a 16x20 Ampersand Gessoboard, and I strongly recommend using crackle paste on a wood substrate over canvas. I tested Chroma Crackle Paste first, but ultimately switched to Golden Crackle Paste as the cracking effect with Chroma was too small for my esthetic despite layering it on quite thick. 446. How To Add Movement To Your Fluid Art!! Fabulous Composition! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-03-14 | #fluidart #deconstructedbloom #bloomtechnique Hi! Getting down to the wire with the series of paintings in this color palette. I tried something a bit different with this one, and after the hair dryer work I started to create a deconstructed bloom but during the tilting process I tried to swirl the center of the painting to give more overall movement to the bloom. It worked fairly well and I'm really happy with the composition--even if it did mean I was spinning for what felt like forever LOL. This shows that even minor changed can have a huge impact on your composition, so don't be afraid to play around! This painting was dry in about 6 hours! Until I get my lighting situation sorted in my studio, the next couple of videos are filmed in my doggie pool on the floor in the corner to prevent glare so you can actually see what I'm doing LOL. This is the second video on a 20x20 Level 2 gallery wrapped canvas. I was pretty happy with the end results, but because I did 8 (!!!) paintings in this color palette, I decided to modify it by adding some dot work along the edges and the middle. I love the look on the edges; not too sure about the middle but it gave me a lot of ideas on how to do this on other types of pours--especially a dutch pour, so be on the lookout for a video on that too! I'm using a new to me pouring medium recipe too and omitting varnish altogether--check out the recipe below! 437. Functional Fluid Art: Avoiding The “Drano Effect” With Pre-Cut Clocks! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-02-01 | Hi all! This is a rather long video and I debating cutting parts, but for those who want to make functional art I thought the hacks contained herein might be useful; plus there's a cameo of Finn! : )). I am chatty Kathy though so you are forewarned LOL!! Anyway, I found these almost 12" clocks at Ikea; and decided they would be perfect for testing the drying conditions in the new studio. In this video, I'm going to demonstrate how to avoid the "Drano Effect" when pouring on functional art items with cut-outs (such as numbers on a clock). The "Drano Effect" is when the liquid paint flows through the cut-out or holes in your substrate, often resulting in a less-than-perfect product.This video is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to make beautiful functional art!I made a homemade pouring medium (see recipe below) and I did simple flip cups to make functional art and I am super happy with how they turned out! Don't be afraid of silicone! It's easy to clean and adding a barrier coat between the paint and resin will ensure a successful topcoat on the first try! 434. INCREDIBLE Deconstructed Landscape! Must See Fluid Art!! Waterfall Acrylics 2023-01-12 | #deconstructedbloom #fluidart #arttherapy Hi all! I haven't done a long form video in a while, so during editing I decided not to cut anything at all as I felt it was a good learning video of the trials and tribulations and accompany fluid art. I hope you catch most of it! This is the last in the series highlighting the This Little Piggy color created for me by The Fluid Art Co. It's called Waterfall and IMO, is the perfect shade of blue. This is a deconstructed landscape technique on a 16”x20” gallery wrapped canvas. I am super excited about this one, and this is a planned, deliberate and intentional piece where I really wanted something darker, moodier, with a sunset behind the storm clouds and a turbulent sea. PATREON: patreon.com/waterfallacrylics*************************************************************Colors/Brands/Pouring Medium Recipe:House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate:PPG Multi-Pro in Eggshell.Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); JoSonja Gloss Varnish 3:2 ratio paint to varnish. Mix well.Brands/Colors mixed: This Little Piggy (TLP) pigments in Waterfall, Violet Rain and Hammerhead; Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics in Payne's Gray; Golden Fluid Acrylics in Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold. Golden, Atelier, and Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick then I'll add a teaspoon of varnish/water to thin. (I make a bottle of "Jo-Wa" by adding 1/3 JoSonja Gloss Varnish and the rest water, and keep it in a squeeze bottle and use as my "water.")All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.Cell Activator Color:Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Lamp Black and Amsterdam Grayish Blue.
