There are Disney classics like Lilo & Stitch, Monster’s Inc, Moana, The Princess and the Frog, Coco, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Toy Story 3, Encanto, Finding Nemo, Frozen, Inside Out, Up, and The Incredibles. Encanto & Other Disney Animated Movies That Need a Remake

TheThings Animated 2023-06-11 | What makes a live action Disney remake work? At this point, most of us have seen enough of them to know which ones were necessary and which ones… not so much. It seems like there’s a new live action remake of a classic we all know and love being announced all the time, so it’s hard not to think about which ones we’d love to see next. Well, we put some serious thought into which live action remakes we’d be buying tickets to and which ones we’re not so interested in seeing. All in all, there are quite a few live action remakes we’d really like to see, and they’re all appealing for different reasons. Most people like their live action remakes to be actually live action, which is why movies with casts entirely made up of animals are usually a no-go. We’re making exceptions for The Aristocats, Oliver & Company, and The Rescuers. Then there are the Disney princesses who we’re still excited to see cast as real actors, like Tangled, Frozen, The Princess and the Frog, Brave, and Pocahontas. There are older classics that are ready for a reboot like The Emperor’s New Groove, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Sword in The Stone, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. And, then there are just the ones that we think would be so fun to watch in a new iteration, like Encanto, Hercules, Up, The Incredibles. So, which ones do you want to see? Spider-Man Across the Spiderverse Behind the Voices

TheThings Animated 2023-06-07 | We’re all very excited for the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse. This is the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which we assume will be a very long and beloved franchise. As a result, it feels like the upcoming second installment is truly going to make history, so we’re learning everything we can about the movie before it premieres on June 2nd. One of the things that made Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse stand out among a saturated world of superhero movies was its fresh and unusual storytelling format and its unique and acclaimed animation style. But, no matter what makes a particular animated feature, the voice cast that’s chosen is almost always an easy way to make or break a film. We all know that the voice cast of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was star-studded and impressive, so it’s safe to assume that this will be the same for Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse. As we would expect, many of the voice actors from the original film are returning and reprising their roles for the second installment. Shameik Moore is returning as Miles Morales/Spider-Man, and Jake Johnson is back as Peter B. Parker. Hailee Steinfeld is reprising her role as Gwen Stacy AKA Ghost-Spider. The parents are back again – by which we mean Brian Tyree Henry will once again be Jefferson Davis, Luna Lauren Vélez is Rio Morales, and Shea Whigham is Gwen Stacy’s dad, George Stacy. But, there are plenty of new cast members joining, too, and you may be surprised to hear just who’s joining the spider verse and where you may have seen them before.

The Little Mermaid (2023): 12 Things They Changed

TheThings Animated 2023-06-05 | The highly-anticipated live-action remakes of one of the most classic Disney movies in history has arrived. The new adaptation of The Little Mermaid has graced the big screen, and Disney fans everywhere are eager to find out how this remake stacks up to the beloved original. Whether you love the new film or feel much more loyal to the animated version, everyone who’s seen this adaptation can agree on one thing: a lot changed between the animated version and now. Some live-action Disney remakes have been criticized for not actually changing much, at all, from their source material. With The Little Mermaid, however, this certainly wouldn’t be a valid criticism. It’s evident that director, Rob Marshall, set out to make many changes to the original story. A lot of backstory was added in this version for Prince Eric and Ursula, as well as more information about what happened to Ariel’s mother. Certain aspects of the original that garnered criticism were altered in the remake. For example, Ariel and Eric’s love story is more fleshed-out, and Ariel’s fascination with humans seems more important than her infatuation with Eric. Additionally, Ariel is much tougher this time around. From getting in fights to outsmarting opponents, and even taking down Ursula, this little mermaid isn’t afraid to defend herself. And, it’s clear that she’s interested in more than just marrying a prince; this version ends with Ariel and Eric setting sail to explore the ocean. We’ve got all the many changes this remake made to the source material.

TheThings Animated 2023-05-31 | Most people have a favorite animated Disney classic, and for a lot of us, our favorite Disney movie was a great source of comfort when we were growing up. This fact proves that Disney really knows how to make a movie that makes kids feel good, even though they all have a sad or scary moment or two. Yet, very few Disney movies are actually entirely original ideas. Most of them were based on a story that already existed. Disney takes the story, Disney-fies it AKA makes it appropriate and loveable for folks of all ages, and it becomes their own version. As a result, while most of us know the story of Cinderella or The Little Mermaid the way Disney delivered it to us, that’s not the only way that many of these stories were previously told. If the folks at Disney took the time to remove certain character traits or plot points from a story before adapting it for the screen, chances are that those details weren’t family-friendly enough for the brand. And, what we’ve discovered is that the original versions of many of the Disney classics were downright dark. Cinderella and Rapunzel (AKA the OG Tangled) both involved characters getting brutally blinded. The Fox and the Hound had a deeply dressing ending, as did The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The witch in Snow White met a terrible fate at the end of the original tale, and we’re very thankful we never heard the original Sleeping Beauty story as kids. You’re gonna be shocked to hear just how far some of these stories went.

What 10 Famous Cartoon Animals Characters Look Like In Real Life

TheThings Animated 2023-05-28 | Since everyone’s so fascinated by all the live action remakes of Disney animated classics, it’s clear that we all want to see what our favorite cartoon characters would look like if they weren’t cartoons. Some of the most beloved cartoon characters out there are anthropomorphic animals, so it’s easy to wonder how these animals would look if they were real animals. Well, we did some digging to figure out exactly how our favorite cartoon animals would look in real life and how close these animated characters actually look to their real life counterparts, and we discovered some very interesting things. For starters, Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants isn’t actually a squid, and Arthur isn’t, at all, an accurate aardvark. Scooby Doo actually looks a lot like a real Great Dane, but he doesn’t actually act like one. He’s got this in common with Sven from Frozen, who’s an accurate depiction of how a reindeer looks but acts more like a dog. The Lemurs from Madagascar have some similarities and some differences with real ring-tailed lemurs, and Remy the rat from Ratatouille is actually a pretty realistic rat. You may be terrified to see how Tamatoa from Moana would look in real life, and you may be surprised to see how much cuter Pascal from Tangled is compared to his real chameleon counterpart. There’s also the live action Lady and the Tramp that showed us real versions of the famous cartoon dogs and Timon and Pumbaa who actually do have real life counterparts.

The Little Mermaid (1989) Behind the Scenes Secrets

TheThings Animated 2023-05-26 | As the premiere of The Little Mermaid’s long-awaited live action adaptation fast approaches, it’s easy to look back on just how much we love the original The Little Mermaid. As much as we all love this Disney classic, there’s still plenty that went on behind the scenes to get this movie off the ground that we may not be so familiar with. Did you know that “Part of Your World” almost wasn’t a part of the movie, at all? What about the fact that one of Sebastian’s most famous lines was ad-libbed? As it turns out, there are way more interesting aspects to The Little Mermaid than meet the eye. You may not know how Ursula’s appearance came to be, who inspired her makeup and mannerisms, and how exactly her tentacles saved Disney some money. You also probably didn’t know that she used to have a very fishy family tree and wasn’t quite as evil as we’re used to seeing her. But, beyond what changed about the characters before we got to meet them on our screens, a lot of work went into making this classic movie. There was one sequence that took a huge team more than a year to animate and millions of bubbles that had to be hand-drawn. And, if all of that isn’t enough, the movie was rejected before Disney gave it the okay. Luckily, it made it through and changed animation forever. While there are plenty of remakes ahead of us that are highly anticipated, from The Little Mermaid to Moana, there are also plenty of live action adaptations that have already hit our screens. And, while most of us have seen the live action remakes that have already come out, that doesn’t mean that we know all of the most interesting secrets about the best remakes. Luckily, we’ve gathered together our favorites, and we’re ready to talk about all of them. For starters, there’s one real shot in the mostly CGI remake of The Lion King and plenty of real furniture in Lady and the Tramp. There’s an interesting nod to another live action adaptation in Beauty and the Beast and an age old Disney theory confirmed in Aladdin. There are too many Disney Easter eggs to count in the form of cuckoo clocks in the live action Pinocchio, as well as plenty of 101 Dalmatians Easter eggs in Cruella. Mulan’s cricket made an unusual appearance in the live action version that you likely missed, and the stork made a subtle visit in Dumbo that only eagle-eyed viewers caught. Both Cinderella and Peter Pan & Wendy included surprising musical references, and the whole story ends with the closing of one very, very important book. TheThings Animated 2023-05-19 | Another day, another live-action adaptation of one of our favorite Disney classics. The latest reboot to join the ranks is Peter Pan & Wendy on Disney+. Most people certainly recognize this movie as a live-action adaptation of the 1953 Disney classic, Peter Pan. Yet, it’s clear when you watch this new version, that the minds behind Peter Pan & Wendy set out – not just to remake a fan-favorite animated Disney film – but also to give some nods to the versions of this story that came before. Even if, like many of us, you’ve already watched and enjoyed Peter Pan & Wendy, you might be surprised to find out just how many details you missed on the first watch. Among those details were many, many interesting nods to the source material. Of course, there was some iconic imagery, classic costumes, a familiar furry friend, and a reference to the soundtrack from the movie that so many of us loved as kids. Writer, J.M. Barrie originally wrote the play, Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up that premiered way back in 1904. He followed it up with the novel, Peter and Wendy, in 1911. Peter Pan & Wendy made so many references to these early versions that plenty of fans of the animated film, alone, likely wouldn’t have recognized. And, they even made a reference to something a bit more modern: Disney’s Fairies franchise. It’s clear that Peter Pan & Wendy wanted to marry the many iterations of Peter Pan together in one piece to make for a new classic, and we’ve got all the details that show just how they did it.

Peter Pan & Wendy Things They Changed

TheThings Animated 2023-05-14 | Doesn’t it seem like there’s always a new live action adaptation of a Disney classic hitting our screens? Well, the latest has arrived on Disney+. Peter Pan & Wendy is a new, updated version of Peter Pan, and beyond just the expected transition from animation to live action, this movie changed quite a bit about its source material. To start, there are some overarching changes that you’ll notice right away, like the film’s dark appearance and its glaring lack of music. Other changes that were made will need some closer attention to discover. Some relationships get a lot more attention. Tinkerbell and Wendy have a friendship in this version that didn’t exist before, and Peter has a deep backstory with both Wendy and Captain Hook. Tiger Lily also got quite a makeover and gets lots more screen time, as well as much better treatment than she does in the animated version. While Tiger Lily’s part got bigger in this version, the mermaids’ part got way smaller. Some other plot details were totally revamped. Peter Pan, Michael, and John all face some dangers that they didn’t have to deal with in the original. The Lost Boys also have some major changes. In fact, they’re not all Lost Boys anymore; there are some lost girls, too. Plus, Wendy’s relationship with them is very different this time around. Last but certainly not least, Peter Pan & Wendy got a whole new ending. Plenty of changes were made to the OG Peter Pan, and you’ll have to see them to believe.

Dark Details In Shrek Movies That Went Over Our Heads

TheThings Animated 2023-05-12 | How awesome is it when animated movies that are theoretically “for kids” include jokes and references made for adults? Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is packed with adult jokes and we rounded up some of our favorites. The Shrek movies are known for being more crass and skewing older than their squeaky-clean Disney counterparts, but at the end of the day, they are still movies meant for families to enjoy together. Shrek is known for being hilarious for people of all ages, and to get us adults laughing some more adult-oriented jokes are necessary. Some of these you may know already, but you probably missed what this adult-medication this magic potion was labeled after, or the f-word the Shrek writers snuck into their children’s film. Don’t worry, we’ll bring you up to speed with our list of Dark Details In Shrek Movies That Went Over Our Heads. The adult moments go by quickly, and anything inappropriate probably goes right over kids’s heads. Even the references to Shrek might be too old for these kids since those movies started coming out over 20 years ago! Puss in Boots: The Last Wish makes great use of the “bleep,” and some creative moments of censorship to imply some foul language without risking a PG-13 rating. The adorable new character Perrito and Salma Hayek’s beloved Kitty Softpaws both reveal themselves to have pretty dirty vocabularies. Sometimes the adult moments aren’t technically inappropriate, but they’re just thematically more mature. Puss is dealing with an existential crisis, questioning his doctor’s bedside manner, experiencing the horrors of a poorly run retirement facility and being told he needed therapy by his ex-girlfriend. These are all pretty adult experiences that younger audiences won’t have the context for. Little Mermaids Dark History

TheThings Animated 2023-05-10 | Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid certainly has people talking and impatiently waiting for the premiere. So, as we wait and closely analyze that new trailer, we got to thinking about The Little Mermaid. We all know that plenty of Disney classics are retellings of old fairy tales. We also know that said old fairy tales tend to be a lot darker than the Disney versions. Well, as it turns out, the original version of The Little Mermaid just might have been the darkest of them all. The original version was written by Hans Christian Anderson all the way back in 1837. And, while plenty has changed in the past two centuries, we’re still surprised to discover just how much has changed about the story of The Little Mermaid. That original version would have been way more like a horror movie than a children’s classic, and we certainly have Disney to thank for that. In the original version, the little mermaid is completely depressed and actually has no name. There are also much scarier details about mermaid lore in this version. For example, there’s no afterlife for mermaids, and after their long lives, they simply turn to seafoam. When the little mermaid strikes up a deal with the sea witch, the deal is way worse than the one Ariel makes with Ursula. The sea witch cuts out the little mermaid’s tongue, and she’s in excruciating pain whenever she uses her new legs. And, if you can believe it, this story gets way worse from here. We’ve got all the darkest details from the original Little Mermaid.

Well, as it turns out, not so much. In fact, lots of animated movies include plenty of improvisation from their actors. Some of the most iconic lines from our favorite animated movies were actually thought up on the spot by their stars. This is especially true for some of the most classic Dreamworks movies. From Fiona’s famous burp in Shrek being all thanks to Cameron Diaz drinking a Coke while recording to nearly 50% of Megamind being improvised due to its hilarious cast recording all together, you’ll surely be amazed at just how many of your favorite lines weren’t actually in the script. It certainly helps that these movies are packed to the brim with comedy greats, SNL alumni, and expert improvisers, but it doesn’t make it any less amazing just how easily they can come up with lines that not only make it into the movie, but remain lines that we remember for years to come. Did you know that all of the zebras in Madagascar were voiced by using Chris Rock’s outtakes from the first movie? What about the fact that Hugh Jackman wrote an entire song about margaritas on the spot for his role in Flushed Away. Super Mario Bros Movie: What We Want to See in the Sequel

TheThings Animated 2023-05-03 | If you recently decided to take a trip through the plumbing pipes and to a theater near you to see Mario and Luigi take the big screen, you’re not alone! The box office hit has been making fans reminisce on the days of adrenaline rushes and sweaty game consoles that made - and broke - most sibling relationships. Although we got the definitive proof that the mustached brothers and their action-packed adventures are so suited for an animated movie, we never imagined the movie would cram so many of our favorite aspects of the game in little over an hour and a half.
You might have felt like there were so many characters, scenes and references to the game series that you were just trying to focus on catching them all - and we hope you did! We can assure you, if we’d had a pause button in that theater, we would have stopped to take a few scenes in a little longer. Especially the too-short glimpse of those Yoshis - right!?

Now that it’s finally here, plenty of Mario fans are in search of a verdict about whether everyone’s favorite plumbers’ film was a fantastic hit or a total flop. Well, as it turns out the answer seems to be… both. The Super Mario Bros Movie has critics and audiences, alike, a bit divided. In fact, the Rotten Tomatoes score, itself, shows just how strangely polarizing this film is. The Super Mario Bros movie has earned a 58% critic score and a 96% audience score. A split like this is pretty unusual, and even among the critics’ and audience’s reviews, it seems that the opinions about whether this movie is actually good are pretty split. So, what exactly is going on? Well, some think that this movie has very little when it comes to the plot and the character development, while others argue that that isn’t really what this movie is about. Some critics have praise for Christ Pratt’s interpretation of Mario, while some diehard fans think that Pratt’s version of Mario isn’t Mario, at all. The movie’s visuals have people split right down the middle as well. 12 Things You Missed in the New Spiderverse Trailer

TheThings Animated 2023-04-23 | The second trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse has officially dropped, and suffice it to say, people are pretty excited. We have a bit of time before the highly anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse premieres on June 2nd. And, while we’re all more than ready to see this film, we’re gonna need the wait time to unpack all the hidden details in this trailer. Yes – this trailer is chock-full of details that give us a better idea of what to expect from this movie. Yet, this trailer did a particularly good job of giving us plenty of super-subtle clues that were easy to miss. One thing that probably no one missed was just how many different versions of Spider-Man made an appearance in this trailer. And, while you likely noticed the sheer volume, you probably didn’t catch all the familiar faces who were underneath that famous suit. There’s also, of course, Spiderwoman, who has a very interesting detail that plenty of fans didn’t notice. There are plenty of hidden Easter eggs for folks who can watch things with an expert eagle eye. These Easter eggs included but weren’t limited to a nod to The True Life Tales of Spiderman and plenty of references hiding in Miles’ Room. There were some interesting spiderwebs, as well as some even more interesting graffiti. We also get to see flashbacks to the OG movie and some interesting art styles, as well as The Spot and a reference to The Spoiler. There are also appearances from two very important superhero daughters.
