Chaga Fungus on Huge Yellow Birch Tree John-Paul Elliott 2015-12-23 | I have returned to a huge yellow birch tree one year after removing a piece of Chaga fungus from it. I wanted to see if the Chaga fungus had resumed its growth. I noticed that it had grown. I was inspired to do this after watching a similar video on The EconoChallenge video feed (goo.gl/kHI4tQ). Traditional GV Snowshoe Asymmetrical Binding Installation and Modification John-Paul Elliott 2018-03-10 | I have shown how I installed my GV asymmetrical binding to my traditional snowshoe. I also show how I modified the procedure to include a rubber gasket (from a tire tube) between the aluminum crampon and the rawhide of the snowshoe to protect the rawhide.It is late in the season for snowshoeing in Eastern Ontario as most of the deep snow has melted. Message me next winter to find out how well these bindings held up to constant use. I walk my dog in the bush everyday. I may also create another video to demonstrate how well they held up.
Triangle Cross Country Ski Trails John-Paul Elliott 2018-01-06 | On January 6th, 2018 I explored the cross country ski trail system of the Triangle Cross Country Ski Club (TCCSC). The TCCSC is situated at McIntosh Mills on Leeds and Grenville County Road #5 about 10 minutes north of the 401. Membership is $50 per year and day users are welcome (a $10 donation is appreciated). Bobs Cove - Charleston Lake - 2016 John-Paul Elliott 2016-12-26 | Ava, Copper and I camped at Bob’s Cove, Charleston Lake, for three days in August 2016. We paddled in from the Provincial Park in my new Souris River, Quetico 17. The weather was fabulous. We fished, swam and jumped from the cliffs. Unfortunately, we couldn’t have a campfire due to the very dry summer conditions. We saw lots of wildlife including a Black Rat snake and a Big Bass that lived near our cliffs. Ava wanted use my old 6-man tent which did not fit on the tent pad. She is more comfortable in the huge tent than squeezed into the 2-man tent with Copper and myself. Being just 20 minutes from the 401, Charleston Lake can be a busy spot. Jareds OFSAA Gold Medal in Javelin John-Paul Elliott 2016-06-06 | Jared competed in Javelin in the midget category on June 3rd at Lancer Stadium in Windsor. He warmed up confidently and threw several strong practice throws. Jared appeared to be the most disciplined and prepared athlete. At OFSAA, coaches cannot coach their athletes. I give his coaches (Mr. Shea) credit for preparing him so well. He also competed well mentally and I credit his former hockey coaches for their contributions. His second official throw of 50.49 m won the event. That distance was also a personal best and a school record. For this effort we have to give Jared the lions share of the credit. Blue Mountain Trail - Charleston Lake - Pitch Pine - Hiking with Daughter and Dog John-Paul Elliott 2015-12-24 | My daughter and my dog hike (9.6 km) up the Blue Mountain Trail on a warm December day. We encounter a rare Pitch Pine forest at the top. Blue Mountain is really a huge granite outcrop (54 m elevated with respect to Warburton Road) located in Charleston Lake Provincial Park. It is the highest point in Leeds and Grenville.
