Gather character-specific cards and equipment to battle through bite-sized dungeons while unlocking new gear and characters to try. Each one is very different, and each dungeon has new rules, so there's a lot of run variety to be had. This also means the balance can be on the wonk sometimes, but since restarting is so fast you don't have time to get too mad. There's a ton here to love, and this was clearly made by a team that adored the original game. This time, they've expanded the game into a fully 3D roguelite shooter, and they managed to keep the pace and atmosphere. Load up in your mech suit with 4 weapons simultaneously and plan your path through various derelict ships. Take out the systems that you think will give you the most trouble and hit the core to succeed. It's an addicting formula with fun weapons and a good amount of stuff to unlock. Using a unique turn-based combat system combining elements of things like Super Mario RPG and Mega Man Battle Network, you'll traverse the story's twists and turns and discover the origin of the Murks. It's got such an engaging and varied combat system that it could carry the game on its own, but the story and characters are well done as well, so they make a lovely team together. It takes what was successful about the first game and cranks it up with sharp visuals, meaty combat, satisfying guns, and a great sense of map exploration and pacing. After playing through what's available in the current version, it seems to me they're using the first game as a jumping-off point to expand in every direction and iterate the formula to great results. Plenty of build variety and a load of boss fights await while you peer between the worlds of the living and the dead to explore a large, interconnected map. Although it has some occasionally frustrating decisions, the lock-on is wonky, and the enemy density is too high in some areas, I've actually had a lot of fun with this and I think it's a good attempt at the genre with some super cool ideas. The skill system is awesome, combat and magic are fun to use, the the details in effects, animations, and ragdolls add a lot to the satisfaction. The scale is impressive, and there are plenty of other elements to sink time into, like gathering mini-games, crafting, alchemy, and even kingdom building.
