2GO Shipping to convert its passenger ships into floating quarantine facilities
In an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection for returning seafarers and overseas Filipino workers who will be required to undergo the mandated 14-day quarantine, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) partners with 2Go Shipping to turn passenger vessels into ‘quarantine ships’, which is likewise expected to help unburden hospitals that are now operating at full capacity, since the authorities expect more repatriates to arrive in the country.
2GO shipping has agreed to the Philippine Coast Guard’s proposal on March 22, 2020, to temporarily convert private passenger ships into quarantine facilities. 2 of 2GO’s ships will serve 1,500 patients and will be operational by next week.
