Protecting Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park with LWCF LWCF Coalition 2021-05-19 | Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, GeorgiaThis past year, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park received $2.8 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to protect the Lamar Mounds. The project will not only connect two separated areas of the park to ease public access, but also preserves a significant Native American cultural site. Ocmulgee Mounds contains 17,000 years of Indigenous history and artifacts, and acquisition of this new area will ensure permanent protection of the ancestral homeland of The Muscogee (Creek) Nation.The LWCF has protected America’s favorite public lands for 56 years. With full, permanent funding of the program recently secured through the Great American Outdoors Act in 2020, we want to celebrate the victory by sharing your LWCF stories from across the country. LWCF has touched thousands of places and millions of faces, in every state and U.S. territory, and will continue to protect our public lands for generations to come.

Taking Advantage of Land & Water Conservation Fund Full Funding in the Delaware River Watershed LWCF Coalition 2022-02-16 | On February 10th, 2022 the Appalachian Mountain Club hosted, alongside the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed and the LWCF Coalition, a webinar explaining the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and how to take advantage of its recent full funding.There is unprecedented opportunity, given that after many years of advocacy, LWCF will have consistent full funding, for partners to think big and increase the pace of conservation in urban, suburban, and rural areas. But there is also unprecedented need, with a football field’s worth of natural area lost to development every 30 seconds in the US. And there are unprecedented challenges in scaling up a very decentralized program like LWCF, one that relies on community partners coming together to solve complex land-use problems, often with limited expertise and resources to understand the many different tools in the LWCF toolbox, how to write grant applications that are different in every state, where to find match funds, etc. This webinar is one of many efforts by the LWCF Coalition and local conservation leaders to help fill these gaps.
