In July 2021 Beam Global successfully set the world record for the longest flight in a production electric aircraft powered by off-grid, renewable solar energy, proving zero emissions aviation is here.
Starting in Fresno, the Pipistrel Alpha Electro aircraft flew 227 nautical miles over Central California with stops in Madera, Merced, Modesto and Lodi before following the same flight path back to Fresno. Beam Global partnered with Pilot Joseph Oldham, Founder and CEO of New Vision Aviation, to make the trip possible. EV ARC™ electric vehicle charging equipment was rapidly deployed at several airports, and in some cases relocated to support the multi-leg flight, demonstrating that airports can support the electrification of aviation without construction, electrical work or large utility charges.
“This historic world record marks the start of a new chapter for zero-emissions aviation while breaking down the barriers to rapid adoption of commercially available clean aircraft. Our products make airport charging infrastructure available now, ushering in a new level of aviation access for rural and suburban denizens,” said Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley. “There are around twenty thousand public and private airports across the U.S. and we want to put clean, impact-free charging infrastructure in all of them.”

“During times of peace and prosperity our products deliver the driving on sunshine experience day and night throughout the year. They cost nothing to run and they deliver service with precious little care or maintenance,” said Desmond Wheatley, CEO at Beam. “That’s exactly what they are designed to do. But they are also designed to provide a highly reliable and clean source of fuel for transportation and other requirements in the event that the utility-grid cannot deliver. We could not forecast when the requirement would hit or what it would be, but we designed the products knowing that one day they might be the only reliable source of power our first responders and frontline workers could rely upon. Tragically, COVID-19 has delivered an opportunity for EV ARC to demonstrate its multiple layers of value. I am proud to support Oakland and our other customers at this time.”

“We are driving toward a greener, more sustainable future by accelerating our commitment to electrifying the County vehicle fleet, building new charging infrastructure, and incentivizing people to go electric,” said Supervisor Fletcher, a member of the California Air Resources Board. “With the passage of the Electric Vehicle Roadmap, we are leading the way and asking others to join us in pushing for change.”
The Electric Vehicle Roadmap includes:
Further Reducing the County’s Fleet of Gas-Powered Vehicles
Convert 250 County fleet gas-powered vehicles to EVs by 2025 and install necessary EV charging infrastructure.
Convert an additional 251 County fleet gas-powered vehicles to EVs for a total of 501 by 2027 and install necessary EV charging infrastructure at 16 County sites.
Consider additional categories of light-duty vehicles for conversion, and purchase EVs as feasible.
Accelerate Installation of EV Charging Stations at Public Locations in County Facilities and in the Unincorporated County
Install 63 publicly accessible Level II chargers at seven County facilities for public and employee use, which will increase the number of public charging infrastructure at County facilities to 100 chargers.
Promote and Incentivize County Employee EV Ownership.
Develop partnerships with banks, credit unions, dealerships to extend lending and pricing benefits.
Incentivize and/or Require EV Charging Infrastructure in New and Existing Private MultiFamily Residential and/or Non-Residential Development
Fund EV Expert/Consumer Advocate as a Regional Resource
Increase EV ownership and charging station installations through education, outreach, regional collaboration, and incentives.
Collaborate with Regional Partners to Support Public and Private Fleet Electrification.
Supervisor Fletcher’s Electric Roadmap, supports the Operational Excellence Initiative in the County of San Diego’s 2019-2024 Strategic Plan by pursuing policy and program changes to positively impact residents.
Since the proposal for developing an Electric Vehicle Roadmap was introduced by the Supervisor Fletcher in April, he’s been engaging with community stakeholders to champion the benefits of electrifying the county. For example, last month, as part of Clean Air Day, the Supervisor hosted a free Electric Vehicle Ride & Drive to create greater understanding in the community about the benefits of using and purchasing EVs. More than 70 people took a spin around the County Administration Center in EVs during that event.
Envision listed on Nasdaq on April 16, 2019. Envision Solar’s CEO, Desmond Wheatley did the honors along with Board of Directors member Robert Schweitzer and other key personnel.
“There are over one billion cars in the world today, and it is estimated that there will be two billion by 2040, with the great majority of them electric” said Desmond Wheatley, CEO of Envision Solar. “The world will need hundreds of millions of charging stations and the ability to fast charge on highways and in other remote locations. The fact that we can deliver DC fast charging without connecting to the grid will enable the use of EVs everywhere without waiting for years for construction and utility upgrades. We view this as a very significant opportunity, and we are delighted to have worked with MBARD and Caltrans to make the first such deployment a reality.’”
According to the Federal Highway Administration 65% of the U.S.’s highways are in rural environments. Extending the grid to locations where people will need to charge their EVs will be too expensive and too disruptive to be possible in many cases. Envision’s products uniquely do not require any construction or grid connections and as such the Company views DC fast charging on public highways as another significant growth opportunity.
Opening Bell Ceremony Follows an Environmentally Historical Moment as Solar-Powered EV Chargers Are Installed for First Time on a U.S. Highway. Full press release www.EnvisionSolar.com
Envision Solar International, Inc, (Nasdaq CM: EVSI, EVSIW) the leading producer of unique and sustainable infrastructure products for electric vehicle charging, energy security and outdoor media rang the market opening bell at Nasdaq on Monday, September 30, 2019 following an environmentally historical moment when Envision Solar’s solar-powered EV ARC™ charging infrastructure products were installed for the first time on a U.S. highway. Envision listed on Nasdaq on April 16, 2019. Envision Solar’s CEO, Desmond Wheatley did the honors along with Board of Directors member Robert Schweitzer and other key personnel.
The company’s products are deployed in more than 90 municipalities across the U.S. and in South America, Europe and the Caribbean and for global corporations including Google, McDonald’s and Cadillac. Envision’s “Driving on Sunshine” products are now also providing DC fast charging to drivers in rest areas as a result of a collaboration funded by the Monterey Bay Air Resources District (MBARD), and advanced by Caltrans. The solar-powered EV charging infrastructure products were deployed the same day the Trump administration announced it would attempt to revoke the emissions standards established in California to match a less stringent federal standard.
In the exclusive interview, Wheatley discusses the company’s innovative sustainable technology product portfolio and the advances the company is making with the growing solar market.
